go to bookins.com and check it out, great place to trade books.I have been absent from diaryland for awhile but always enjoyed your entries.

I have to say I have rarely seen a pile of foodstuffs more artfully arranged than in those stadiums. I almost wish we 'did' superbowl so we could have one! I love the plarn, too - I am a crochetard but I think it would probably knit up OK with big enough needles so I might have a go at that instead. Thanks for the inspiration! s x
from sduckie :
I always love your book recommendations... I read Alice Bliss, and Gap Year... Sarah Bird is quite wonderful and I just ordered a bunch more of her novels. Unfortunately I am not able to find Courtney Sullivan at my library :(
from fightn4life :
darn it!!! Every time I try to post a comment on another blog besides DL it will not allow me to unless I sign up. Once again I wrote a long message and lost it trying to submit. (Scream!) I don't know all I said besides chatter. Some of it was about how awesome you RH is for helping out the kids. Mine lives in the basement, doing nothing besides eating, drinking beer and getting on my nerves. He is suppose to leave first week in October when he gets his check. I can only pray against hope he does as he has decided. he just makes me tired and wears me down. I'll try and recall more, it is the third time today this has happened. Sorry...I am glad to be back to writing. missed reading your Diary. xoxo Sandyz

Happy New Year to you too!!!! Thank you so much for all the advice you've given me.....hopefully you can continue to guide my crazy soul in 2010!! Also loved the pics you took in S.America (I think that's where they were)
from signomifly :
::pulling hair:: I know!! I don't know why I feel so guilty (wait, yes I do)...and I just..I don't know. You think I should cancel and just send a letter instead? I'm so confused and torn, even though...as you said and were completely right...I'm wrong and I know it!!!!
from signomifly :
Yeah, i am getting sick *frown* This sucks. I just hope its a cold and not the Piggy Virus. Hey..did you see Norah Jones on Dancing with the Stars last night? She did 2 new songs, and I'm excited to hear the rest of her CD now...it was good!!
from signomifly :
Phillipa Greggory wrote a new book?! omg omg omg...I NEEDS to get to the bookstore quick! Lol. Umm, if you like fantasy/sci-fi (but not over the top sci-fi, something real and relatable) -- try Laurell K. Hamilton's "Meridith Gray" Series. They are sooo good!
from sduckie :
I finished the Jennifer Donnelly books and just ordered A Northern Light- have you read it? I like her writing and how loong the books are... I hope she writes more soon!
from fightn4life :
I love your new site. Wow, I felt I was reading about myself when I read about you joining Face Book. I was addicted to that site and spent more time in cyber land than here in my 3D life. I have found a comfortable balance by making myself spend less time on face book. I still miss it and have broken my 2 hour a week limit once but I am doing better that I was. Its all good. See you on face book. Sandyz
from sduckie :
Finished "Time of My Life" in about two days- cute book... I am still waiting for Tea Rose before I read Winter Rose... hope all goes well with your visit and remodeling!
from sduckie :
Can you believe I have FINALLY finished Thirteen Moons? It took forever!! I just started "Eve" and I'm liking it already! I am (fairly) close to my sister Delia, we have our tough moments and don't talk everyday. She is always tired and doesn't seem to like to talk on the phone. My other sister has cut off the family and we don't have any contact info for her at all... too bad! Thanks for your entry! I will get a few books from your new list...
from sduckie :
Tea Rose is on order! I am waiting for it to come in... still slogging through Thirteen Moons- it is good but slow! Thanks for your comment! :) Duck
from my5cents :
RYC: What a nice surprise to hear from you....I will be back to read about your life very soon. I noticed a lot of mutual blogsite favorites. Glad you enjoy my reading choices. I have to confess I usually take home more books than I can read....but it's fun. If you can find The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly...get it. I think I wrote about it a few weeks ago. I am reading the second in the series now titled The Winter Rose....
from sduckie :
yes I only know how to operate from diaryland... I like your blog plus I get a lot of great reading from you... I am reading Thirteen Moons now, finished Summer Reading. I am always looking for something good to read! :) Duck

You do know that you can keep your D-land site without paying, right? I just use Flickr to store my pics, and otherwise there is no reason to have to pay for the site. I know a lot of people (like me) like to follow the link to your page, especially when my google reader is down.
from fightn4life :
I love your senior moments. :) What an awesome page. Sandyz

Thanks for keeping up on my diary when dial up kept me from opening so many diaries. I felt so lost singing in the dark. I'll check your new site. :) Sandyz

As much as I love bananas, I'm not a big fan of banana bread. I wonder if zucchini could be substituted...
from im2qt2kr :
The book....white christmas pie?? I think that was it, sounds intriguing. I've always been fascinated with the Amish. Since you enjoy cooking, you might like the cookbook "Cooking from Quilt Country". She use to have a show, and it's one of my favorite cookbooks. the bread sounds delicious, let us know how it comes out.

Re: you last note to me. With your love of reading, have you ever thought of sharing that passion with children? Reading to kids at schools or the library? These days, so many kids are either glued to the TV or computer screen, that they don't know the true pleasure of sitting down quietly and "escaping" into the wonderful new worlds found in books. I think you'd be fabulous at this and would also receive a great deal of pleasure from it yourself. Also, there are so many elderly who, at one time also loved reading, but can no longer do it for themselves. Volunteering is a wonderful stress release, and a win-win for everyone involved. Just a thought I thought I'd throw out to you.

I just read The Other Queen by Philipa Gregory which was very good. It is about Mary Queen of Scots' inprisonment in England or there is at least one more book in the King Henry VIII period.

First let me say I am loving all the photos and cartoons on your Xanga site. Apparently sometime in the past I must have created a profile there, but it won't let me enter comments there. So I'll just keep leaving them here. I LOVED the video!!! Also, I don't read the lady you commented on yesterday, but I've seen other bloggers with problems with her. Sometimes when you see someone involved in numerous flame wars, you don't have to guess too hard to wonder just who's holding the match. I love reading your updates, and I find you nothing less than positively delightful. P.S. Please send RH over to train my NON-anal-retentive Hubby how to clean out the shed and garage!

Good gravy, I was wondering why she cropped up at my place leaving big blowhard brags about how wonderful SHE looks for her age (on my birthday) and then whining about never getting comments from me- *subtext* that 'she' is one of my most ardent supporters and commenters and is out ther daily defending my honor. PUH-leeeze. I got out of jr high 32 years ago and have no intention of going back. Like fruit flies and crotch lice, some pests are never truly gotten rid of. It's really too bad that we have had the falling out that we have had, because in a different life we might have been friends. (both over 50, like icancheesebuger, etc) However, there is just NO taking back words once they have been said.Thos e bridges have been burned. I don't remember ever having rec'd an apology? (other than you telling me you had PMS & PMS is not an acceptable excuse, sorry) I actually LIKED you quite a bit and I came over to your diary to check you out and I was absolutely SHOCKED when I read all that you had wrote about ME! In your defense I must say you were probably influenced by all the OTHER negative input you had heard about me from YankeeChick. Anyways, doesn't really matter. Just wanted to let you know I do NOT HATE you. I don't trust you either, but I don't HATE you. I actually wish you well. Love, Peace, Health, and Happiness. ~Boxx

When my Mom passed, I went over a year without watching the News, and didn't miss it one bit. If a commercial blurb mentioned something was coming on the News that I wanted to know about, I just checked the internet and read the parts I wanted to about it. I believe that's a big part of what helped me maintain my sanity at that time. That, and discovering diaryland...my therapy.
from la-the-sage :
Your other site won't let me comment. Boo! But about your blahs? Most definitely stay away from the news until the inauguration. The 24-hour news cycle is designed to keep people on the edge of despair and panic. Not healthy. That's not informing the citizenry, it's emotional chicanery. Jett's death WAS a sad thing, but think how loved he was during his life! Blowing kisses from my icy domain, ~LA

Try in a test spot first, but on other things, I have gotten rid of mildew by spraying on a mixture of bleach and water. Also, wrapping things in newspaper can help remove odors. And...Yes, it always takes me a few days to adjust to all the wonderful CHristmasy things coming down. It's always so sad to me. I have been guilty of crying a few times when taking it all down.

You like biographies? Have I got the book for you, but it isn't yet in the library. you can find it at http://www.lulu.com/content/267958. The neat thing is you can say you knew the author when. Okay, so it's my book. Can't blame a girl for pimping out her own book.

Oh! I would have sent you a card if I had your address. I love sending out Christmas cards. I sent out about 50 and got probably 30 back. It's so nice to get something in the mail other than bills!

I'll be curious to hear what you think of The Hour I First Believed. I like Wally Lamb's other books, but haven't read this one and am wondering if I should... How is it?

I like your sister's idea about the resolutions... I have never been a fan of putting silly ideas inside one's head and then going back to business as usual. The notion of sending yourself a note about your intent makes so much more sense. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I love love love to read. I always have a book going. When I am upset, I run to Barnes & Noble since the library closes too early for my tastes. (Tonight I managed 146 pages in just about two hours.) I have so many books, more than three bookcases full, and they're all mine since my DH doesn't read. And I read everything and anything I can get my hands on. I read every night before bed or I can't fall asleep. I am seriously addicted. ;o)

I'm currently reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. And I believe the name of the story you referred to is Snow White and Rose Red.

I too had the reading bug when I was just a kid...about 50 some odds years ago, give or take. :) I loved the library and still do. I have so many books that I want to read again just as I did as a kid. I recall one that stayed with me many years...it was "Oregon at last" it was about a family going by wagon train to Oregon. All the adults were killed by Indians and the kids made the rest of the trip by foot. I never forgot that book. Those kids going over the last hill and seeing other settlers, I visualized it for years. The rest of the books I read as a kids were animal stories. And...Little Women. I love memories like this. Hope you enjoy your books...I have one I am completely lost in. I always do. Sandyz

question? Does your sister pack up her room every year and move the entire contents to another room? We all have to pack up our room at the end of the year so the custodians can clean it or sometimes our room will be used for summer school by another teacher. What is hard for me is moving the entire room, packing up everything and then unpacking everything and putting it all away and setting up bulletin boards, supplies, and furniture etc. I'm sure I have more stuff in my classroom then I have in my apartment.
from yaketyyak :
Thanks for the chuckle. I needed that!

from yaketyyak :
Unbelievable!
from bluesleepy :
I'm pretty sure this is a 100% true story, as I saw a headline for it on MSNBC.com. What I find saddest about this whole story is the fact that the couple communicated mainly through their avatars in Second Life. They're in the SAME HOUSE! I know I will instant message with Kurt while we're watching tv, but that's because I want to share a link with him. We still TALK and INTERACT and go places together. Sheesh.

I love the photos of your kitties!! And I am really looking forward to the "after" photos to your remodel. It's so stressful to do a remodel; I haven't ever heard of one going perfectly smoothly. I hope yours smooths out quickly!

When they are done with the remodeling it will be beautiful. I loved your cats picks...they are so adorable. One thing I do not miss about our Ark life...we lived in the center of a construction zone. Home improvements are never fun. Give RH a big hug for me and tell him to go Zen. If he doesn't go Zen, he has to drive back to Tombstone and chase us with his truck!
from casa-rosie :
Why do kitties insist upon jumping up onto the freshly-made bed right before the comforter is put on? My cats love darting here and there underneath the covers. How did prehistoric kitties get their jollies? And lastly, your Sam looks an awful lot like my Isabella! I should have sent her home with you! RH would have just thought that he was seeing double! Good thing RH didn't see my kitchen, he's have gone nuts with how disorganized it is.
from junkmel1 :
Thanks for the pix of everything. Do you like your appliance garage on your countertop? I have alternately wished for one to hide bigger appliances and been glad I didn't have one because they seem to take up a lot of room. Just curious what you thought. Also, I love the chicken collection! I have a rooster lamp that is one of the only things I got from my grandmother's house. I have been razzed about it for years from my friends, but I love it.
from junkmel1 :
I love the idea of appetizers and desserts for Christmas dinner, and I think I'll mention that to my husband for this year. We always have Christmas at home with just the kids. The week between Christmas and New Years we usually travel to Louisiana to visit with both families. The kids are usually so hyped up on the Christmas presents, and only Hubby and I actually eat much of Christmas dinner. Appetizers would be waaaaay more fun than cooking that big dinner.
from poolagirl :
No Black Friday for me either! YUCKKKIE! Sorry about your absent relatives. I am going to cruise your archives now to see what happened.
from poolagirl :
I LOVE gift cards.....but not when they are impossible to buy or use. Dang it!

from bluesleepy :
I love my reusable tote bags!! I have one from the Navy that I use a lot, as well as several from Trader Joe's which are my favorite. I looked them up online; there are two in Indianapolis. You're in Indiana, right?? If you're ever in Indianapolis, head over to Trader Joe's and get a couple of their reusable bags. They're AWESOME! You can pack SO MUCH stuff into them, and they're super strong. I also have this little green bag that folds up really, really small. I keep it in my purse for when I get a few things here and there and I've forgotten my bags in the car. I got it for $5 at Bed Bath & Beyond.
from poolagirl :
Whew! Now I can back to Jello wrestling and know all is well. Can you tell I am having a weird day?
from poolagirl :
You write whatever you want to write however you want to write it. I will read it. I will cherish your words. I will cherish you. As a former English teacher, I can assure you (and anyone else) that the English language is in a constant state of flux. It's call evolution.
from fightn4life :
My grammar sucks...I admit it. There are times (I am sure of it) when I use a word that sounds right but the meaning is often not what I am trying to express. I write because I love to, because I am trying to express something that is eating at me, to release it. I don't look for grammar errors when reading any Blog nor does it matter to me. I too think everyone is entitled to mistakes. I would just let it go...it is so unimportant. There are times I reread an entry and see a major mistake...I think...Oh my God...people must think I am an idiot. Then I think if some one can't stand my often incorrect way of writing they can hit "delete." Don't stress...life is too short. :) Sandyz
from boxx9000 :
WOW! I had NO idea you took my comment as sarcastic. It was a simple and sincere question because I was curious and the thought crossed my mind to ask you since I saw the word spelled out all in CAPS and I had just been thinking about it. That's all. that simple. No big deal. I find it amazing how much you MISread into it. PEACE.
from cocoabean :
yup. clear as mud!
from boxx9000 :
The encyclopedia reference is from my kids at school. They ask me a million questions and when I don't know the answer they always say, "But, you SHOULD know that you are a teacher!" I usually reply, "I'm a teacher NOT an encyclopedia." I researched the out loud v. aloud and could not find a GOOD answer. One seems to be more formal (aloud) than the other (out loud) and that's about it. Then there was a whole mess about people confusing aloud with allowed.
from boxx9000 :
Just because I'm a teacher does not mean I am an encyclopedia. That was a serious question. I don't know the answer. I have my kids read ALOUD every day for fluency practice. I used to call it reading OUT LOUD, but I could never find what the difference was between the two.
from boxx9000 :
Shop at LOWE'S. Question? What is the difference between outloud and aloud?
from junkmel1 :
I searched for the countertops...very pretty. Will there be before and after pics?
from poolagirl :

from yaketyyak :
You'll have to eat out, huh? Such a hardship! ;)

from poolagirl :
What a great story! And...nice shot of the shoes. One can never have too many shots of you in those shoes! Or should we say "behind the shoes?"
from junkmel1 :
Boy, now I feel really dumb! :) It really wasn't a joke! My husband happened to walk in while I was looking at the picture, and he pointed out, what she has really short legs? Ha! We're both idjits!!
from poolagirl :
The shoes! The shoes! You and those shoes! Gotta tell ya something. Those shoes got a real bang out of you too, lady!
from junkmel1 :
Y'all are saints for helping your BIL move! I think next time we move a small dumpster should be dropped off a month or so ahead of time for us to get rid of things. (Hubby is the king of keeping broken things, in case he needs "parts" from it or he can fix it.) I'm enjoying reading about your trip. You know, the last picture, the one with you and the shoes? It has a very strange perspective...I'm guessing they're up on a ledge or something that has leaves all over it, too, just like the ground below. If you just glance at it quickly, though, it looks almost like you're wearing the shoes and you have very short legs! :)
from yaketyyak :
Looks like you had a fabulous time. I'm so glad for you!
from junkmel1 :

from poolagirl :
Welcome home, sweet lady! I am SO glad you had such a good time! I think we had an even better time with smaller numbers because we were able to go into such depth with things. I had an absolute RIOT with you! I will never be able to say the words "winking in my direction" again! BWA HA HA HA! Hugs to RH. He was a real trooper to put up with our silliness. I want a tricycle SO badly! I saw them at Walmart a couple of years ago and always regretted that we didn't have the money for one. Now that I might be able to afford it, I can't find one anywhere! Oh, and it's snowed, so maybe next year. :) Nice debate analysis, btw! I think Sarah is great in that format. In the times I've spoken to her, she hasn't used a lot of "ya, sure" and "doggone it" but she definitely has a friendly, open presence. She's extremely easy to talk to and relate to, and yet when my children met her, she commanded respect which I loved. She got down to their level, but expected eye contact and a firm handshake. We thought she was the bees knees and that was well before she was Governor. I only wish it would come across how incredibly intelligent she is. That's a huge misconception and my pet peeve of the week. :)
from yaketyyak :
Boy would I love to see a photo of you on your adult tricycle!
from bluesleepy :
Tina Fey doing the debates??? That would be AWESOME!! And in my humble opinion, she would do better than Sarah Palin. *ducks*
from vixonella :
This could get confusing!! Vixonella, lilswede, and LeAnn are all me!! lol. I hate to hear that you have had trouble falling off your bike. I love to ride and I'm so out of shape that it really is a challenge. The tricycle sounds like a great idea! Does it have gears the same as a bicycle does? Cause it would be very hard to ride without gears, I would think! Have fun. LeAnn

Hi Five, It's LeAnn from Tiny Hum. I know you read my blog!! lol. I was teasing my friends because I send out a mass email about my blog and I get no feedback!! lol. Anyway, I have been trying to figure out how to find your recent blogs and I think I finally figured it out. Whenever I clicked your link from my comments it took me to an archived blog of yours without a link to your new ones. So this time I followed the link from Stephanies blog and that seems to have worked. I just didn't want you to think I was being rude and ignoring you! Take care, LeAnn
from bluesleepy :
Oh a tricycle! That's so cool. I'm sure you'll enjoy your bike rides now that you know you won't get hurt. Those falls sounds painful!! Keep us updated on how you like the new wheels.
from cocoabean :
lots of people ride the three wheelers, plus with the basket, you can carry things easier. l-empress rides one too!
from fightn4life :
I checked on my profile and you are one of my favs, Diary Land didn't delete your name just moved you around. Crazy D.L. I think this is the first year too that husband and I don't know who we are voting for...but feel we must vote. We do talk about it allot but still sit in that grey area. I wish someone could come up with the right answers...sitting on the porch sounds good to me. I think the last of the hummers are gone here as well. Fall is on us and the election very close. Sandyz
from poolagirl :
I still have a herd of birds but that is just because of where I live. Love them! Anxious to see you in a few weeks!
from yaketyyak :
I saw a hummingbird in my neighbor's yard the other day, and I was so excited!
from fightn4life :
I love humming birds but they have all left here for now. Something to again look forward to come spring. OH...I would love to bike ride once again. And I want to thank you...of course I can take classes on the net. What was I thinking?? Some times worry gets in the way of common sense...I suppose that is why I cherish my internet friends...they wake me up. :) Sandyz
from pennyjar :
You're going to tombstone?!! Awesomeness! Hope you find your bike brakes, before you take any more falls! Maybe before you head out,you could stop and breathe, and try to envision yourself approaching a pothole or some other obstacle, putting on the brakes, and easily dropping one foot to the ground to stop. It might give you a little "muscle memory"...
from bluesleepy :
First the falls and now a bat?? Wow! You are leading a pretty exciting life over there in Indiana. I hope your bruises heal quickly. Those bruises sound painful. I have to say, I am envious of Poolie getting to meet you in Tombstone! I would love to meet you one day!
from poolagirl :
If ye can hunt bats, ye can hunt javelinas! Yarrrr! What fun we will have, matey!
from mahvalicious :
I've been asking Ole to get my old bike down from the rafters also, because I sure need the exercise. Maybe I should rethink that a bit after reading your entry (chuckle). Glad that neither you nor RH were hurt seriously. Lena
from greenwitch :
I hope those bruises heal quick! The bat was probably sleeping in the crack of the door or something. I had one in my patio umbrella a couple of years ago and when I opened the umbrella the little beast dropped out all stunned and groggy. Happy fall!
from bluesleepy :
Ouch!! I hope you heal quickly from your falls today! It makes me giggle a bit to hear people talk about autumn today. It was 80 and muggy here! But the rest of the week is supposed to be much cooler, and I am hoping we start getting a bit of that lovely autumn scenting wafting through our open windows. And call me crazy, but I am REALLY hoping for a cold winter. We got sort of gypped last year -- it was rather mild.
from poolagirl :
Yikes! Hope you recover from those bruises soon! And the hummers are amazing when they get territorial, aren't they?
from mahvalicious :
I'm with you. I think Minnesota is going to have an early winter also. I used to have a long haired cat that would forecast our winter and was right 100% of the time. In the fall she would change her summer coat to her winter fluff. If the winter was going to be very cold she would grow a ruff around her neck that was like a lion's mane and the hair on her body would grow long enough that it would touch the floor. In the summer she was a slick fluffy if that makes any sense. And she was 100% accurate. I lost her down in Sturgis several years ago, thanks to Jane who stood in the RV with the door open. Lena http://talesfromfrostbitefalls.blogspot.com
from la-the-sage :
Oy, hope your bumps and bruises are slight and mend fast! 80 degrees here and I'm finding it difficult to believe it will ever be cold! (Though I know it will.) ~LA
from yaketyyak :
I can't figure out how to get to your son's blog, so I'll leave belated birthday wishes here. Hope he had a special day!
from wyndspirit :
What a touching tribute!
from pennyjar :
Well, he's living the Cowboy Code, isn't he? Happy B'Day, RH!
from yaketyyak :
Belated happy birthday to RH. That entry is a wonderful gift!
from casa-rosie :
Happy Birthday to your beloved RH! You know, not that I'd wish Tombstone on anyone, but the Marshal here changes depending on who the mayor appoints...and we are just around the corner from an election! Then he could come and hang out with real cowboys! AND he could be the one to light our flaming puffies! Though he'd be more likely to arrest us for creating a fire hazard! *LOL* You are so lucky to have such a wonderful man in your life, and he's durned lucky to have you!
from yankee-chick :
What a beautiful entry! You are a very lucky couple, indeed. Happy Birthday to RH!!
from junkmel1 :
He sounds like a wonderful man, and it's clear you love him very much. Hope he has a wonderful birthday.
from la-the-sage :
Happy Birthday, RH! ~LA
from poolagirl :
OMG! I cried when I read your entry! How beautiful! How how lucky RH is to have you in his life! Happy birthday!
from yaketyyak :
Congratulations to the family and a warm welcome to the new baby!
from junkmel1 :
That's fabulous news! Glad he made it safe and sound, and it sounds like he has plenty of loving arms waiting for him!
from thecrankyone :
Welcome to the world Michael Alexander. Wow he is a big boy isn't he. ((hugs)) congrats on the new family member
from la-the-sage :
Mazel tov! A long happy life to Michael Alexander and congrats to the proud family! ~LA ps: My elder son's name is Alexander Michael, funny eh?
from poolagirl :
Yay for Michael Alexander and all the people who love him! YAY!
from greenwitch :
Congratulations!
from h2odragon :
I'm so happy about the step great grandson for you! How wonderful. I want to see the other bolyn too. I just have had no time. BTW I won the demo derby. Thanks for your thoughts :)
from junkmel1 :
I love Bev Doolittle, too, though I don't have any of her prints. My mom had the same Forest Has Eyes print you have, but lost it in Hurricane Katrina. Mom's a big fan of BD, and introduce me to her work. Michael Alexander is such a good strong boy's name. I love being a mom so much, I can't wait for grandchildren. Great grandchildren must be even more special. Congratulations!
from bluesleepy :
The Other Boleyn Girl is an AWESOME book!! Let me know if you can't get hold of it at the library; I can lend it to you. I haven't seen the movie, though. I guess I should. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your little grandson and a safe delivery!
from fightn4life :
I too stopped reading ignorant e-mail about the candidates...all I hope for is a turnaround in the sluggish economy. I am awaiting word on the vice presidents as well...I can't even imagine. Debates will be what I watch for my final decision, right now...I haven't a clue, Sandyz
from poolagirl :
The Other Boleyn Girl is SUCH a good book!
from poolagirl :
Hummingbirds are the best! I now have THREE feeders in the back yard. I am becoming obsessed.
from greenwitch :
I think we should get that guy Murphy and run him out of town!
from yaketyyak :
You're not bragging - you're counting your blessings!
from cocoabean :
Got your mail today! Thanks!
from la-the-sage :
Please don't ever feel bad or guilty about posting good things! I love hearing about my friends' good stuff! I am delighted you and RH are having so much fun. Seeing all your friends and traveling here and there...wow, it's terrific! Trust me, those of us with too much drama absolutely long for posts like yours. Those gentle postcards from Happy Town are the best reminder of why we keep chugging along through our own messy lives, because someday things might get as peaceful and fun as yours! Okay? ~LA
from sassers :
You know, I've never had a dream like that, but I can imagine it'd be frustrating!
from bluesleepy :
I SO want to meet you and my other blog friends in Tombstone!! But with this baby, it's just not possible. There's another get-together I am missing in October as well; a group of ladies I know are renting a beach-house in Florida for a weekend!! Oh well. It's not every day you have a baby.
from poolagirl :
YAY! YAY! You are coming to Tombstone! When cocoabean first visited me, she had to reassure her mother that I am not a serial killer. Are there any issues like that we need to clear up before we meet? LOL!
from yaketyyak :
A lot of woodpeckers visit my yard, but no hummingbirds. Maybe it would help if I hung the feeder I bought a few years ago and is just sitting around collecting dust...
from pennyjar :
And so it begins... Birdwatching is good, clean fun, and will keep you and RH off the street. Har! Beane is the bird-watcher/feeder around these parts. I never even considered it, until she took it up, but we really enjoy the birds that she's brought to us!
from fightn4life :
That is what I miss...the humming birds. I fed then the last two states I lived now it is time to get the feeders out and sit back and enjoy. I can't believe I had forgot about them. I could see the wood pecker by our description...I want to see one. :) Sandyz
from h2odragon :
I've read that hummingbirds start their migration in mid-august so if you invest in something new for them don't be disappointed if you don't see any very soon. My brother hangs those feeders and has even got them to come into his house with the bait near the entrance
from greenwitch :
Humming birds love any flower that is red or pink and it helps if they are a deeper type of flower.... they adore red petunias, rose of sharon, hybiscus, morning glory.... you do have a new hobby if you have had so many fun birds already visit.
from bluesleepy :
Wow, hummingbirds!!! I'd love to come up and see your hummingbirds. They're such gorgeous birds. We live in a pretty quiet neighborhood too, though there are a few VERY busy streets just a few blocks away. We hear sirens occasionally; some folks really complain about them, but I can't see why.
from la-the-sage :
If you have room for a trellis vine plant then I suggest a trumpet honeysuckle. Dark orange 'trumpet' shaped flowers all spring, summer and into fall that the hummingbirds cannot get enough of. I don't even put out a feeder, the vine does it all. Dozens of hummingbirds. So much fun! ~LA
from cocoabean :
sounds like you need to invest in a birdbath too!
from h2odragon :
That is so funnny. I hadn't thought about the many things that used to be common place before.
from pennyjar :
I'm enjoying walking down memory lane with ya! I came in on the tail end of the drugstore fountains. I remember sitting on a stool at a drugstore, while my mom drugged my bowl of applesauce. HAR!!! I was 3, and the only way they could get me to the dentist was to drug me, and then she had to carry my chubby little drugged butt up about 3 flights of stairs to the dentist office. SErves her right!
from hilthethrill :
My blog was locked up yesterday, but it is open today for your viewing pleasure. It will be up for about a week, and then I will be moving to a new location, and Hil-the-thrill will be deleted. Don't worry, I won't lose ya! You are cordially invited to the new space, once I invent it!
from bluesleepy :
We have a bottle opener! One of those old-fashioned ones too, the ones that can punch holes in the top of cans of condensed milk. Ours does have a magnet on it so it lives on our fridge. I leave my canister set out on the counter. I guess I really ought to find space for it in my cupboards because I don't USE the stuff in my canisters much. And let's not even talk about spices. I have one spice holder/lazy susan thing, one spice rack hanging on the wall, and an entire corner cabinet filled with spices. I use a lot of oddball spices in my cooking.
from la-the-sage :
I am so sorry about your tree! To me trees are like kids and beloved pets, they are worth the mess and the work. It's a shame no one suggested Gutter Helmet to your husband. Keeps the leaves and debris out. In any case, my sincere condolences. Though they don't go on road trips with us, trees are definitely members of the family. ~LA
from bluesleepy :
What a beautiful memory! I had always heard of such things as part of uplifting emails, but I never knew it to happen to someone in particular. It's a shame that the same thing probably wouldn't happen in this day and age. You can still get Evening in Paris from the Vermont Country Store. I love that catalog. There is so many cool things in there!
from casa-rosie :
Terri, thank you so much for your kind comments, I really do appreciate them, and I have added you to my buddy list. I have to say, I've some of my best (worst?) airline adventures at DFW (not to mention O'Hare)! I've been to Detroit a few times, never a problem there!
from bluesleepy :
Wow! You really lucked out on those standby seats. I'm so glad you had such a great time with your sisters. And I can't believe you remembered me while on your trip and mentioned me to your sister. You made me blush!! ;o)
from webmiss :
I hope you have a wonderful safe trip. Can't wait to hear all about it. Enjoy your sisters!
from yaketyyak :
Have a great trip!
from junkmel1 :
I hope you have a wonderful time with your sisters!
from bluesleepy :
I love friends like that, that when you meet up again, it's like no time has passed at all!! I'm awfully sorry to hear about C's husband, and I hope she does hold up well. I can't even imagine losing my husband, and we've been married not quite seven years. It sounds like you have a fun and busy summer lined up!! Enjoy it!
from h2odragon :
That's sad about C's husband. I worry about that happening to me. Life just wouldn't be the sam ewithout Fred. Now that we finally found each other no dying is allowed!! Have fun gambling and enjoy your mutual retirement.
from la-the-sage :
Sounds great! How lovely you two have so many friends and so much kin to visit and have fun with. It's a damn shame about C's husband, as you said she will get on with things, but so sad to be without him. 40 years of love, wow. You drop in a penny or two for me, okay? ~LA
from cocoabean :
yes, I noticed!
from yaketyyak :
How wonderful to be able to say that you really don't have any dreams that you haven't fulfilled. Good for you!
from h2odragon :
I loved Bucket List and that's why I am entering a demolition derby this summer. But mostly I feel the same way. I want to enjoy what I have.
from junkmel1 :
We enjoyed the Bucket List, too, though I must say I missed that blooper! I loved reading you and your husband's considerations and final decision you don't need a list. I must admit, I kept waiting for you to say you'd like to write a book. In fact, I wish you'd find a whole new stack of letters and journals so we could hear more about Josephine and her family now. When Hubby and I were newly married and I'd hear people talk about growing old together, I really never thought twice about it. Now that we're in the middle age stage, I find I look more and more forward to the future when my husband and I will have the time to just be with each other. Right now we're torn between work and child-rearing most of the time, and I long for time to just enjoy each other's company. I'm hoping our upcoming vacation will give us a few snippets here and there to drink our morning coffee together without having to be somewhere or drive a child somewhere. Thanks for such sweet comments about my boys. Life would be dull without them! :)
from bluesleepy :
You have such a positive outlook on life. I hope that throughout my life, I stay as positive as you have been.
from yaketyyak :
A color-coded closet! I'm impressed!
from irisheyes70 :
I hope your BIL will be okay! Wow, your closet sounds like a dream come true. *sigh* I really need to clean mine out too. Thanks for the inspiration. As usual!
from bluesleepy :
Oh, that's awful to hear about your BIL. I hope he can get back onto his feet again soon. I need to clean out my closet too, and give so much of it to Goodwill. Some of it is just stuff that doesn't fit anymore!! I really need to organize my closet.
from la-the-sage :
Sorry to hear of your BIL's woes. Losing everything! Yikes! Stay dry yourself, hon. ~LA
from yaketyyak :
You ask some good questions. Let me know if you ever figure out the answers!
from fightn4life :
I love your why list...I was asking the same questions you did. Why the military is paid so poorly and some sports guys are rolling in millions. Why the hardest workers seem to have to fight the hardest to keep what little they have. Why all the give aways are to those who can afford it and middle case can only dream. We had a "star" in the hotel, the room rate was 2,00.00 a night. That person didn't have to pay a cent...they gave the room to that person for three nights, free room service, meals, entertainment, booze and free entry to shows. Joe and his wife and two kids paid for their room for two nights, their flight was delayed and where I worked they charged them for an extra day because they didn't get out by 11:00 check out. Sad but true. My list of whys is very long...almost every thing you thought of I too think about at times. Sandyz
from honest-place :
I can't wait to be retired = freedom
from bluesleepy :
YAY for retirement! Hopefully your dear husband gets over his curmudgeonly ways soonest. I bust out laughing at that joke of yours. Clever!!!
from kidneygurl :
Congrats on retirement; enjoy yourselves in the casinos , Indiana has some really fun ones!
from yaketyyak :
Hurray for retirement!
from fightn4life :
I recall the huge family gatherings, I miss those times horribly. I am thankful for past memories. This year it was just me and I worked Friday through today although I remembered those that gave all and those that are giving still today to keep our country free. It didn't feel like a holiday but none of them do during this changing stage of my life, I feel bummed today but life moves on. Wonderful your life is just beginning with hubby retiring, happy thoughts are for you. :) Sandyz
from la-the-sage :
Big change! But you two will have so much fun! Congrats to the Hub. ~LA
from junkmel1 :
Congrats on Hubby's retirement! And your yard sounds beautiful...I could use some help in my yard down south, now that y'all will have all this free time. :)
from sassers :
Yay for retirement!
from greenwitch :
How nice that your husband is able to retire and you can have a new life together. Enjoy!
from chaosdaily :
did I get that reference? Absolutely! It was one of my all-time favorite shows~!
from yaketyyak :
I work in a high school, and this is definitely the Age of Entitlement!
from webmiss :
Great post. Like you, I think the teacher hit a bingo the first time. You make an important observation there when you say that the parents are the people ultimately behind this behaviour. I wonder what drives it? Is it guilt because they have to work all the time and cannot spend quality time with their children? Or is it just a lack of patience & parenting skills? It's easier just to hand it over than use the opportunity as a life lesson. Seems that with the advent of a 2 income family, the family unit itself, and children in general, has suffered greatly. Much to the detriment of society.
from la-the-sage :
I'm with you, hon. I've croaking about those brats for years. Now with the economy going in the toilet it will be interesting to see what happens to the spoiled and the spoiling parents. Methinks there's many many tantrums and dramas on the way as reality finally bites the entitled ones. ~LA
from bluesleepy :
I'll tell you what happens to those entitlement kids when they graduate college. They move back home with Mom & Dad so they can live in the fancy house with all the latest gadgets (home theatre, in-ground pool, Jacuzzi tub) and drive the best cars. They even get home-cooked meals every night! Then when they get to be 25 or 30, the parents want to know when they're going to get the hell out! Why should they WANT to move?? They'd have to live in a dumpy apartment somewhere, and if Daddy doesn't buy them a car, they'd have to drive *gasp* a beater car!! Oh, the humanity of it!!! All kidding aside, that's exactly what happens. I've seen it, many times, with my generation. It's sad.
from fightn4life :
I hope you get to feeling better. I hate the summer colds. Get better soon, Sandyz
from yaketyyak :
I hope you feel better soon!
from bluesleepy :
Wow, that Mother's Day poem was beautiful! Happy Mother's Day to you -- I hope you had a fantastic day.
from bluesleepy :
I'm with you on the tail wagging the dog over at Leah Remini's house. So many parents in my age bracket are so afraid of laying down the law because it will hurt the kids' feelings!! But kids NEED limits. Without limits, they won't grow and mature to their full potential. Sheesh. Well, now we know that just because you're richer doesn't always mean you're smarter. ;o)
from webmiss :
I love that. I AM who I AM...and I'm happy. That's awesome. Many people could take a page from your book and learn from that simple statement. Great post.
from fightn4life :
You sound like a well adjusted happy with yourself person, who I would love to meet. I would hope some of your good qualities would become part of who I am. I find many of your likes are mine as well many we differ on. I let you ponder on what is not a like about us. ;) I enjoyed your entry I can now visualize who you are, Sandyz
from yaketyyak :
I have a set of tarot cards, but I don't like them so I don't use them. I'd like to get a more traditional set.
from bluesleepy :
I really enjoyed this "Who am I?" entry!! It was really interesting to read about who you feel you are. I might have to steal this from you and do it over at my site. ;o)
from fightn4life :
Yes, I needed a laugh. :) Thanks for your comments they mean so much to me during this very unsettling time in my life. I want boring now. :) Sandyuz
from bluesleepy :
OH MY GOODNESS, that story was HILARIOUS! Thanks for adding such a bright spot to my day!!
from yaketyyak :
I started wearing glasses in my 40s, but only needed them for reading at first. Now I need them for everything.
from junkmel1 :
I just wanted to comment and say hello. Though I don't comment as often as I should, I do very much enjoy the simple abundance references. Even if I don't follow through on the suggestions, they often make me slow down and think. I also really enjoyed the red door trivia. Your posts are so homey and calming, and I look forward to them!
from annanotbob :
Hi. I've been having a really bad day - just stuck in a gloomy place - and I clicked on your name in the new blue box. Thank you for your calm and beautiful words which have left me in a different, better place. Best wishes x
from bluesleepy :
I love taking hot baths. My bathtub here leaks a bit, so after about ten minutes I need to refill a bit. But at least it keeps the water hot! I might have to borrow that recipe for the vanilla bath. It sounds so decadent!
from fightn4life :
I love chair at the waters edgeI can sit on them and put my feet in the water. Later I can jump in. Little colorful chairs remind me of musical chairs we played as kids, so I smile at those memories. Big cushy chairs remind me of my dad watching TV, sortahe'd sleep in the chair I'd watch TV. When I read about Northern Indy, I thought of my mom and sister, both went back to Indianapolis a few days ago. I miss them, Sandyz
from webmiss :
ROFL I loved the part where you said you'll finish the tostitos with lime and then get moving!! I've really been trying to get into some alternative methods of exercise. They're offering a Tai-Chi course on our lunch break at work, Friday afternoons. I'm thinking about taking Bert to do family yoga on the weekends, and I make sure I walk twice a day on my breaks. Unfortunately, I still have trouble not stuffing my face if I wait too long to eat. I suffer from portion distortion!
from chaosdaily :
ummm yeah, I've noticed it's been nearly impossible to lose weight these last few months. I do good for a day and then stuff my face. I'm sure that the divorce and moving has a lot to do with it!
from yaketyyak :
Belated happy anniversary!
from irisheyes70 :
I'm so sorry about A. and her whole situation. How awful for her mother, and you! I think you are right about the addiction to drama. I'll keep her in my prayers. *HUGS*
from irisheyes70 :
Happy anniversary my friend! What a sweet, sweet story. Thank you for sharing! It gives married people like me hope!!
from bluesleepy :
Happy anniversary to you both! That was such a sweet story. I hope in another 37 years I can look at Kurt and express the same feelings you just did in this post. We're aiming for it!
from bebelua :
happy anniversary! here's to many more loving years. :)
from greenwitch :
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! {{hug}}
from yaketyyak :
I can't think of ANY romantic gifts EVER. Pout.
from bluesleepy :
You ARE a lucky woman!!! Your husband really sounds like a keeper. PS -- Chourico, which is what I put in my sauce last night, is a Portuguese smoked sausage. It's sort of like kielbasa or regular smoked sausage, just with a different flavor. It's made with pork, but I find it a bit too fatty for my tastes. It's good in small doses, though. I prefer Mexican chorizo, but we have a large Portuguese community here, so we get chourico instead.
from bluesleepy :
Wow, how absolutely devastating for that mother to have her daughter betray her trust in such a way. I hope somehow the daughter gets the help she needs, and that she can understand the gravity of what she's done. *HUGS*
from greenwitch :
Wow what a mess. I hope this young lady can earn her parent's trust back and get back on track. It stinks that locks need to be used and harsh measures but when there is no respect what else is there....
from junkmel1 :
Oh, no. I cringed when I got to the part about the e-mail invasion. Her poor parents...sounds like they've had their hands full with her all her life. And I didn't think you were insensitive in your last post, either.
from chaosdaily :
We put locks on all the bedroom doors.. they are chain locks that open with a key, found in the bigger hardware stores. It's hard not to be able to trust your own kids... I know that first hand.
from bluesleepy :
I don't think you are being insensitive to your relative. Insensitive would be saying that she deserved the assault, or not believing that it happened. But dragging it out and milking it for all it's worth -- it's good that you're trying to put an end to that. In the long run, she's going to do more injury to herself, as well as to her family. I believe you're doing the loving thing.
from webmiss :
Great post. I think I either need to do that this weekend or next. All my clothes are now 2 sizes to big for me!!! I'm tempted to throw them away, but I have a roll away storage box that goes under my bed I might keep them in. Afterall, I could *knocks on wood* gain the weight back. You carry a ton of stuff in your purse! Were you ever a girl scout? Always prepared!
from h2odragon :
You do know that the minute you throw any of that away you'll need it don't you?
from yaketyyak :
I have to admit that I am powerless over clutter (although not to the extent of those people on Oprah!).
from fightn4life :
I lloked in my closet and I didn't have to dig at all, two sweaters have tags on them. LOL Ok...I am in Florida and thought we would have more than two days of cold weather. Still I had to have those cloths. Wonder if I have a pair of shoes to match my dress still in a box. Great entry, Sandyz
from bluesleepy :
I too have a Vera Bradley backpack! Mine's called Mod Floral Pink. I was using that before I switched into my current bag, and you're right -- you really have to cull your stuff because the backpack carries so much! I love those two side pockets; I put my camera in one and my phone in the other. I might have to go back to it once the baby's born. I'm not much for carrying a real diaper bag.
from bluesleepy :
I do sink into depressions... and I know the best way to get out of them is to force myself into a better mindset. I whole-heartedly believe in the "fake it till you make it" credo, and I keep encouraging my sister to try it. Of course, I still have bad days, but I like to think that I am getting better.
from h2odragon :
I hadn't thought of it from my daughter's point of view. Maybe that's why she really didn't move in .. lol. I hadn't thought of her having s-e-x!!
from bluesleepy :
My mom's kind of stuck into that kind of fashion rut. I am not sure if she just doesn't care, or if she feel she's not worthy of a new look. I wear all kinds of bright colors; I don't think I own any black. But that's my trademark.
from irisheyes70 :
Thank you for your message! It's somewhat easier to teach our children to run away from the obvious bad guy offering candy in a dark alley. The tricky part is warning them against people they already know. Thank you for your heartfelt reminders!!
from h2odragon :
I shiver when I think about the sex trafficing in the USA. It's a real black eye for us. To answer your question it isn't covered by insurance. It's our own money and in this case what I wanted for Christmas.

My grandparents gave each of their female grandchildren a hope chest. It's smaller than the traditional chests, and mine is washed green with my name stenciled on the front. I received it in high school and didn't quite know what to do with it. Now it holds some of my books, as they are among my most treasured possessions.
from fightn4life :
I started reading your diary and could not quit, your words are much of what lingers in my mind. Your life is how I at one time I felt mine would turn out, the cards were dealt and I ended up with what some believe a losing hand. I have lived long and learned more, not finished as a new road daunting as it appears lies before me, I'll walk as it is the only thing I feel I can do, stumbling at times but always moving forward. I was raised in Indianapolis moved at an early age to Florida then moved what seems a thousand times and have returned to the sunshine state. I look forward to reading more about your word, your insight is awesome, your words thought provoking. I hope you do not mind I added you as a favorite; I want to come back to your world searching forward and back, Sandyz
from greenwitch :
I have my mom's cedar hope chest downstairs in what is now my office. It is a most interesting idea to put those things together in a time when folks move too fast to even think about it.
from sassers :
She didn't mark it in her Blackberry. She's a small time lady without a secretary, so I will give her one more chance...
from greenwitch :
The notion of sabbath or sacred space being where it is most meaningful for the individual soul has always been an important thing for me and when children raised in conventional households ask me what church I go to I tell them I don't go to a building I go to the forest or under the big blue sky. I may have to add the ski slopes because yesterday was that healing.
from yaketyyak :
Good for you for making the decision to finish your book and have it published! Great title, by the way.
from junkmel1 :
I've caught up with your last four or five entries this morning. I'm very tempted to go pick up the Simple Abundance book for myself, as I'm enjoying reading about it in your posts. I wish you lived next door. I'd invite you over for coffee.
from bluesleepy :
I stitched that Serenity Prayer for my mom once. I think it's still folded up in a box under her bed, though. Speaking of stitching, the reason I haven't posted photos of my stitching is because it's a surprise for my best friend. Well, she knows I'm making it, but not what the design is. You can see it <a href="http://www.janlynn.com/detail.cfm?ID=6137">here</a> if you're interested. I have most of the father and baby done; I just have to finish the personalization and the border.
from h2odragon :
I'm planting tomatoes in two weeks YUM
from bluesleepy :
I felt the same overwhelming sadness when my parents took me to Antietam Battlefield when I was a kid. That was the bloodiest single day battle in US history. So many men died on a road there that it was nicknamed "Bloody Lane." It was a very sad and sobering experience, especially for a kid of 8 or 9. It still stays with me, to this day.
from irisheyes70 :
I love that you're sharing your Simple Abundance thoughts with us! I should pick it up again, but now isn't the time. Weird that books have "timing" for me, but important ones like that one do especially!
from h2odragon :
It's nice to be reminded that one small change is enough. It doesn't have to be huge to make a difference.
from yaketyyak :
#16 knocked me for a loop.
from webmiss :
I am so envious of your memories. I don't have anything as clear as that. I wonder if it's because my mind has been cluttered by being a product of the age of information. Too much in my little head to be able to keep memories. Great post though.
from h2odragon :
Sometimes you get a day that everything goes just right. It sounds like you just had one of those. Enjoy it because your next day might end up like mine did yesterday! LOL!
from greenwitch :
I like what your book is suggesting, I feel sleepy just thinking about it.
from yankee-chick :
Of course we want to hear about it! Why would anyone think you were bragging?? And even if you were......so what?!?! LOL We have only been on one cruise and I loved it!! We made a pact after that one that we would do it every year! Hahahahahahahahaha. That was 1999. Not happening! Maybe my next husband. tee hee!
from yaketyyak :
I love to travel. Unfortunately, I don't get to do much of it any more... So, the next best thing is hearing about the travels of others. I'm glad you're enjoying yourself!
from h2odragon :
That cruise sounds wonderful just the same. I'm going on RC this October. (PS I'd never think you were bragging. Tell us everything, that's what a journal is for!)
from bluesleepy :
Wow!! Your trip sounds like so much fun. I think I would love to take a cruise one day. Maybe I should take you with me -- you seem to be somewhat of cruise expert! ;o) I also need to take you with me when I go to the casinos!! We haven't found any casinos with good pay-offs. In Washington, we couldn't get any free perks, where in Vegas we never paid for our meals! The point system was just so high in Washington; it was crazy. Anyhow, glad you're home safe, and that you enjoyed your trip!!!
from la-the-sage :
I can't believe anyone would be churlish enough to be grumpy over your fun. Gross. Thanks for telling us! I had fun 'traveling' with you guys! ~LA
from h2odragon :
I love your simple pleasures. It's how I want to live my life.
from sassers :
You are a smart lady. Thanks for always knowing what to say when you comment me. :)
from greenwitch :
Welcome back. Ya gonna tell us about the trip, huh.. huh?
from webmiss :
Did you have a nice trip? I've been meaning to ask you how your sister has been doing since she ended her relationship with that man. I believe you said he was trying to get back with her, did she blow him off or set some ground rules and take him back. I really enjoyed your entry from 1/23, I have friends who all the time tell me to "Let go and let God." They don't seem to understand that it is much easier said than done. I have much to learn about faith and remembering that there is more to this world than just me and my petty problems. Thank you for the thought provoking post!
from irisheyes70 :
It's so great to have you back! I missed you!! Thank you for making me feel like I was giving the kids an adventure and not being a whiner!
from forty-plus :
Enjoy your trip!
from la-the-sage :
Hope you have a wonderful trip! I'll miss you. ~LA
from h2odragon :
have a great trip. I wil be waiting to hear about it and maybe more simple pleasures.
from junkmel1 :
I remember when I thought my dad knew everything, and I remember the day I figured out he was a mere mortal just like the rest of us. It started my quest (at about 10 years old) to find out just who knew everything in the world, because I thought surely someone did. I am enjoying your writing about the simple pleasures, just like I very much enjoyed the stories about your family (I looked so forward to every installment of those, and clicked immediately when I saw your name in red!). You sound so friendly and open, I want to just call you up and invite you for lunch.
from h2odragon :
I remember when I went food shopping for the first time and realized there ar eonly a couple meat types and all those different flavors and meals where preparing them differently. I just never thought of a hamburger being a ground up steak or taco's using scrambled up hamburger etc and that it was all still beef. duh!
from h2odragon :
Releasing this to the Universe is good for you. These people know you are there for them if needed and that you love them but yes sometimes we need to know what we can change and what we can't. I was reminded of my ex who was always in the midst of some disaster and how wonderful my life has been since. That's very inspirational stuff you're reading and very true.
from yaketyyak :
I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to your young family member. Thank goodness she has the support of wonderful people like you.
from greenwitch :
I hope that everything turns out as well as possible for both of your troubled family members.SOMETIMES LIFE IS JUST TOO COMPLICATED AND IT DOESN"T SEEM FAIR AT ALL
from irisheyes70 :
I'm so sorry your blue! I hope you're feeling better today, sweetie! I'm so sorry for those girls in your family. No wonder you were feeling down. It's awful how even as young as that girl is, she's still put in a "he said she said" situation and the boy will feel no consequences. Little jerk! My sis in law (who I'm babysitting for now) got pregnant at 15. Riley is 6 months older than her son. She married the boy and had another son a couple years later. She's divorced and remarried, but she wouldn't have given up her boys for anything. It's made her who she is today, and I can see that in her. I have a feeling everything will work out for this young lady too. (HUGS)
from bluesleepy :
Wow, that's a hard way to grow up. My prayers are with both girls. *HUGS* I hope you become less blue soon.
from h2odragon :
There's not much positive in molestation but my unexpected pregnancy made me a better person. It was tough but I definitely learned unconditional love and sacrifice and my daughter's beauty overwhelmed me.
from bluesleepy :
Oh my goodness! I posted some things I feel gratitude for on my blog long before I visited yours! But I did link back to you. Thanks, hon, because writing that helped pull me out of a funk.
from h2odragon :
My gratitude journal is my weight and food journal .. so far ...
from h2odragon :
I'll stop being materialistic as soon as I finish my kitchen and downstairs bath .. lol!
from bluesleepy :
I love how you are finding simple pleasures in your life! Thanks for sharing what they are for you. Sometimes I think people think I'm silly when I notice a beautiful sunset or how the sun streams through the clouds or how pretty the landscape is.
from renovatingme :
loved loved loved your response to Irisheyes about her stupid friend (Mrs. Gnome):) Irisheyes is a close friend of mine and it's very cool to see so many support her, she rocks:) I used to write here -- I now write: westcoastdiva.blogspot.com Coffee's always on you are welcome at my kitchen table anytime:)
from yaketyyak :
The library at the high school where I work subscribes to Real Simple magazine, so I read it there. It's very nicely done.
from webmiss :
Just wanted to say good-bye. My internet will be turned off indefinitely at some point today. I really enjoyed your blog, especially the posts from your mother's diary. I hope that you have a blessed year, and I will miss your intelligent and compassionate thoughts on my blog! Take care, Webmiss.
from h2odragon :
I think knowing what you want is the greatest hurdle. After that you have direction and purpose and that brings satisfaction, like a cabinet cleaned or a friendship so well done that they return for advice.
from la-the-sage :
Happy New Year, Terri. As for what I need, good friends like you are waaaay up there on the list so hooray! I've got a biggie already! Mwah! ~LA
from h2odragon :
Want vs need bleed into each other but I must admit I'm doing very well lately and I hope it stays that way!
from webmiss :
Wow, what a thought. Do I know what it takes to make me happy? No, I really don't think I do. I've always made my happiness contingent on what someone else is feeling/doing. Maybe it's time to change that. I'm sorry about what happened with your sister, 4 years is a very long time. I hope that she enjoys her breaking out, and that she finds happiness in herself. Thank you for the comment you left on my site today *Hug!*
from h2odragon :
Reading you is also a simple pleasure. You are so grounded in reality yet open to new experiences.
from greenwitch :
Happy new year. Thanks for all the kind words and support. Do you think the black hole is full of the blahs? ;o)
from bluesleepy :
Wow, that sounds like a great book!! I think it's key to realize that we need to appreciate the things we do have, instead of going out and buying the next newest thing to fill voids in our lives. I try to live simply and just feel blessed that we have no major problems. I hope your friend is able to move forward with her life. It sounds like she's already got some great things lined up! Hopefully she'll find the joy that has been eluding her.
from forty-plus :
Happy New Year!!
from h2odragon :
Those bars sound delicious! Happy New Year to you!
from yaketyyak :
Happy New Year!
from webmiss :
ooh that recipe sounds delish! I might have to try making that for my jewelry party next Friday. I wish you good luck with your 2008 objectives. Just take it slow and steady and you should be able to do it!
from yaketyyak :
Thank you for posting that recipe. I can't wait to try it!
from greenwitch :
Happy new year. I hope it is a very good year and you can reach your goals and have some excellent times.
from greenwitch :
Happy new year. I hope it is a very good year and you can reach your goals and have some excellent times.
from heidiann :
I went to send you a thank you card and realized I don't have your address! So instead I'll write it here. Thank you so very much for thinking of me! I LOVED my gifts and can't wait to wear my tasty lip stuff! Thank you so incredibly much. Great big love and hugs! I hope your Christmas was amazing and that you have a wonderful new year!!!
from yaketyyak :
P.S. Sheesh, I really messed that up. Please excuse the typos. I'm fumble-fingered this morning.
from yaketyyak :
Your comment made my day! I'm so glad your daughter-in-law gave you a copy of the Simple Abundance, and I hoped you enjoy it as much as I do.
from webmiss :
Merry Christmas. I hope you had a wonderful holiday!! It's amazing how much time and effort we all go to, just for one little day. Think when you have some time you might be able to post the recipe for the cookie bar with the white chocolate in it??
from yaketyyak :
White chocolate chips and raspberry jam. Be still my heart! Have a wonderful Christmas.
from greenwitch :
Merry xmas to you!!
from h2odragon :
I think this is the only time of the year that cooking is really appreciated!
from yaketyyak :
RYC: Monavie is definitely helping. I cleaned for six hours today, and, as I was doing my chores, I was DANCING around to the tunes on my ipod. Amazing! Merry Christmas to you, too!
from h2odragon :
I would die rather than shop anymore. Let the festivities begin!
from bluesleepy :
Hehehehe... Erma's response sounds like something I would write! Some days I don't like Martha. She's a bit too foo-foo for me.
from webmiss :
What a darn shame that people would go to such lengths to ruin a good thing? 500,000 christmas cards, and some of them possibly disguising an ugly message in protest of war...sent to someone who was injured fighting that war...we really do live in a sick, sick world! Thanks for letting us all know that this was a futile effort.
from junkmel1 :
Hi, we're obviously reading and posting at the same time here! Since you already read my post, you probably don't know I went back and tagged you instead of my friend I know won't do the meme. I just read that Jodi Picoult is one of your favorite authors, too. I've only recently started reading her, and I'm really enjoying them so far. Which is your favorite? I've read Plain Truth and Vanishing Acts.
from bluesleepy :
Hehehehe... Your story of "coconut suicide" totally made me bust out laughing!! LOVE IT!!
from greenwitch :
The folks on survivor have to deal with the outer husk but a store bought coconut is not an easy nut to crack.... funny story and yes we all need to take a step back and remember what the season means and not run ourselves ragged.
from yaketyyak :
Feel free to post the Simple Abundance excerpt. I really love it, too!
from yaketyyak :
God bless and Merry Christmas to you, too!
from h2odragon :
I'll happily wish everyone a Merry Christmas right along with you. But if you can call your cat gym a christmas tree then I'm decorating my huge parrot cage!
from greenwitch :
The whole PC thing is totally out of control! The "holidays" are made up of many and it should be fine to mention them for what they are although I don't often expect to hear anyone wish me a happy yule or solstice but it should be acceptable if someone does, sheesh.
from irisheyes70 :
Thanks for sharing those recipes! I'm familiar with most of them, but you had some nice variations that I'm looking forward to trying.
from yaketyyak :
That monkey bread sounds good. Thanks for posting the recipe!
from bluesleepy :
I loooooooooooove Puppy Chow, though my recipe calls it "Muddy Buddies." It was definitely my go-to recipe when I needed to bring something yummy and easy to make, and I was thinking of sending it to you when I saw you already had it listed! We can't eat it anymore, though -- my daughter has a peanut allergy. I don't really know what else could substitute for the peanut butter. It's a shame because I loooooove the stuff!
from azzweepay :
When you said "Puppy Chow", I'm thinking, boy, she's really not happy about having this thing if she's going to sneak dog food into the snacks.
from yaketyyak :
I had to laugh at the thought of you putting lights and ornaments on the cat condo and calling it a tree! Good idea!
from webmiss :
Awesome post! I loved the part about no questions or I'll punch you in the mouth. Sounds like something I would be liable to say!
from h2odragon :
Happy Turkey day to you too! I loved the "rules".
from webmiss :
What a GREAT post today! Thank you for putting things in perspective and a smile on my face.
from greenwitch :
Hey, no fair that blog is locked. I wanna see the picture.
from yaketyyak :
That youtube clip is BRILLIANT!
from yaketyyak :
I had a good laugh over the thought of me masquerading as a pantyless Britney Spears! I think I'd rather be Courtney Love, though... *wink*
from webmiss :
You GO girl! That was fantastic. Glad you got it all off your chest and felt better.
from h2odragon :
You had me laughing in agreement from the start. Als why do they have to put all the good shows on the same day? Why can't they say, "WElll Lost has this slot, let's run Pushing Daisys on Tuesdays where it will RULE" but nooooo they compete them against each other on the same day at the same time. I hope TIVO stops that!
from webmiss :
Welcome back! It sounds like you had a pleasant and restful trip. What prompted your son to start a blog? Does he read yours?
from yaketyyak :
I haven't been to NC in a long time, but am really hoping to get back to the Outer Banks some day... I'm glad you had a good trip.
from irisheyes70 :
I really hope you don't have to postpone your vacation! And FYI about your nails... I used to be a nail technician, among other things! And I was taught super glue is okay, as long as you make sure it's completely dry between the two surfaces. You could still get fungus if the nail is broken and it gets wet under the product if you hold it together with a bandaid. I always advised clients to use super glue because I thought it was less of a risk, but I've been out of the game for a LONG time! I'm glad you caught it in time before it got too bad! It can be hard to get rid of.
from webmiss :
I'm sorry you might have to postpone your vacation. I hope that when you do finally get to hit the road you have a lovely and relaxing time. Oh and they're speculating that JLo is pregnant? I did not know there. Where has my mind been lately?
from azzweepay :
You might try to sell just one piece of your collection on Ebay just to see how it works. If the result is favorable it could be a new hobby.
from yaketyyak :
My sister just went on a cruise to Bermuda, and she had a great time. I've never been on a cruise, but would like to give it a try some day.
from webmiss :
We are offered discount cruises through work, but I've just never quite thought they were for me. You said you've done 5, where did you go? Don't you get bored on the ship? How long were you on the cruise for, on average?
from bluesleepy :
We like to play slots too, although I will never set foot in a casino with my husband. It's more HIS thing than mine, ya know? But we'll go in with a specific amount of money (usually between $40 and $60 -- once we had an extra $100), and play till that runs out or we get bored. We never ever ever pull money out of the ATMs in the casinos, which keeps us limited to what we brought in. My mother-in-law loves the slots and goes to the casinos probably every couple of weeks. But they've actually won money. My FIL once put a quarter in a slot machine on the way out and won a thousand dollars. Sheesh. I prefer the casinos in Vegas only because you get free stuff so much more quickly!! We would go to the tribal casinos in Washington every month or so when Kurt wasn't underway, and we lived there for four years. We never earned even a free dinner. :o(
from thecrankyone :
don't feel guilty for feeling down. Everybody has down days, its normal part of being human. Unless it's preventing you from functioning, or it won't go away, I wouldn't be too concerned. Hope the slots were fun while they lasted anyway.
from yaketyyak :
Ohh, your entry made me remember how excited I was when a blimp flew over our house. It wasn't Goodyear, though. It was Budweiser.
from junkmel1 :
I enjoyed that story. Oh, the things we do when we're delirious from no sleep with a newborn. In my sleep-deprived fog when my oldest son was a newborn, I tried desperately for a second or two to put his umbilical cord stump back on when it fell off in the middle of the night. And then the giggles got me and I had to put him back in his bed so I could sit and laugh at myself.
from yaketyyak :
Thank you so much for all the WC info. I do have legal representation, but the attorneys do very little for me. Oh well, at least I won't have to go to the hearing alone... Thanks again!
from webmiss :
I am going to an organizational seminar next week for just this exact reason. I can't seem to keep stuff from piling up on my desk. Everything that I can't find a place for at home gets shoved in a closet. I feel your pain!
from junkmel1 :
I need to do some closet cleaning myself...for all four of us in my house. It's a most cathartic activity, isn't it? I really miss the Oatmeal and Kisses story. Maybe you could write your husband's family story for us now? :)
from webmiss :
I admire you for your restraint! And WOOHOO on winning $100. Thank you for the lovely comment you left on my site today. You always have such a wonderful point of view on the things I blog about.
from webmiss :
My step-father can sit for ages and play slots. When I'm out of my allotted money, I'm done. I remember sleeping on the couch in the lobby of the casino when I was 6 months pregnant because my step-father was my ride home and he wasn't finished playing. Glad you had a good time in moderation. Happy birthday to Mr.2cents!
from h2odragon :
My childhood friend won 89000 dollars in progressive slots. She went back the next year and won 47000 dollars. I get nothing. I think some people are just luckier than others.
from irisheyes70 :
Thank you SO much for sharing that with us... What a beautiful bittersweet story of life. I think it would be wonderful to work on getting it published. I would buy it in a NY second! *hugs* Bless you, sweetie! I hope it was cathartic to write it all out and not too difficult!
from la-the-sage :
An amazing and loving story! You told it so well, hon. Awesome. ~LA
from junkmel1 :
Oh, no, this is the end of your book, isn't it? I don't want it to end!! I was going to ask why Ginny was unhappy with you all, but I guess you're right, that would really be her story to tell. I've thoroughly enjoyed reading the whole thing. Even if you don't get it published, I think you should most certainly publish enough copies of it for your family members to have...What do Mary and Bonnie think of the way you've written it?
from h2odragon :
I keeping going back to a love so strong, so undeniable, that a woman split her family and ran off with the help. I loved this story of love! You come from a line of extraordinary women!
from webmiss :
ohhh bless you for writing all that out, and bless you twice for letting us all be a part of it. What a wonderful story. I was absolutely enchanted from the first entry. I'm sure it was difficult for you to have to relive some of that, but from a selfish point of view, Thank You. I think your mother would be very proud of you. I also think it's lovely that a talent for writing was shared by your grandmother, mother, and you.
from h2odragon :
You did a wonderful thing for her. but you got me crying here! It must have been hard to write that and experience it all again. Beautifully done!
from greenwitch :
Beautiful stuff. Life is just that if we take the time to really look. Thanks for sharing.
from h2odragon :
Oatmeal & Kisses should be published. There's alot of research and interesting material there.
from junkmel1 :
I just wanted to leave a note to tell you how much I'm still enjoying reading your family's story. Hope you're enjoying writing it just as much!
from webmiss :
HOLY COW! Her twin brother contacted her after all those years? Oh I can't wait to read more about that. Oh and you win the award for noticing that I didn't number my list properly in my last entry. LOL I didn't even notice until you pointed it out.
from webmiss :
Glad you're back. I had two new Oatmeal entries to read. I have to admit, I'm addicted. You would have lots of groundwork for a great period novel were you so inclined.
from irisheyes70 :
I just love reading these old stories! Poor Patricia... what a strong lady.
from yankee-chick :
It sounds like B was avoiding spending time with you. Are you closer to M? Is it sibling rivalry rearing it's ugly head and she felt like a 3rd wheel? It's a shame that you didn't get to spend more time with B but it sounds like it was her choice and she has no right to complain. It doesn't sound like she made any effort at all, while you & M tried to include her. Sorry B! You're outta line on this one! Your fall sounds awful. So glad you didn't break anything!! And welcome back. I missed you girl! {{HUG}}
from polly-esther :
That's really true. Those who deal with death every day are so desensitized. I guess they have to be or their jobs would be too difficult to handle emotionally. I'm so sorry to hear about your fall! I'm glad you didn't break anything and I hope your aches ease soon. Ouch.
from webmiss :
Oh goodness, I'm so glad you didn't break anything. Did the manager apologize for not having a properly place sign? I'm glad you had a nice trip and woohoo on getting upgraded to first class! Glad you're back. Can't wait for the next installment of life in the 1950's
from yaketyyak :
First class! Woo hoo! I've always hoped that would happen to me, but, so far, no such luck. Good for you!
from la-the-sage :
Yeee-OWCH! That sounds like a nasty tumble. Glad no bones were broken. ~LA
from irisheyes70 :
Goodness! If hope your sisters luck didn't rub off on you!! And hey, did the pet store at least offer you a free puppy so you won't sue them? Holy macaroni! You could have been very seriously injured!
from h2odragon :
At last we see your debut in this saga. Have a great trip. I'll be waiting for you.
from la-the-sage :
Have a great trip! I'll be missing the family saga, but look forward to its resumption upon your return. ~LA
from junkmel1 :
I am so enjoying reading your family's story. You are doing an excellent job writing it, and I look forward to each installment!
from h2odragon :
When I read this I am there with them. Your writing is simply wonderful. You should try making this into a full novel and get it published.
from h2odragon :
HA! HA! HA! I just hit next without thinking because I wanted to know what happened next.
from h2odragon :
That's a great assignment. It was perfect for the diary! Loved it!
from webmiss :
I tried to leave a comment on your guest book but internet explorer gave me an error. Thank you for sharing your grandmother's diary with us. I can not imagine how much time it must have taken to transcribe everything. I really enjoyed reading her day to day adventures and wish the diary hadn't ended already.
from h2odragon :
How lucky you are to have all this personal information, and the diary too, is just wonderful!
from junkmel1 :
Love this!
from polly-esther :
Well the officer was able to look up my license information because i gave him my SS# and my date of birth. He found me in the system and put all of my other info like height and weight, address, DL number, etc. on the citation. So he did verify I have a license, but I'm just supposed to have it in my possession. I just don't understand why I need to have the actual license with me all the time if the police can verify I'm a legal driver just by looking it up. I know i should have had it with me, but it's just so silly to give someone a ticket like that. I've been pulled over before and I've been unable to find my insurance card or registration in my glove box, and that worked the way you described -- I just had to find it and show it to the court at a later date and the violation would be dismissed. But in this case yesterday, he knew I was a legal driver! Ugh. Whatever.
from junkmel1 :
Thanks for the nice note! You're very lucky to have your grandmother's diary. Do you have your mom's diary as well? And I'm trying to figure it out, but is Patty Jean your mother? If I'm jumping ahead of the story too much, just tell me so... :) Like I noted earlier, I found it fascinating, and I'll definitely be reading!
from junkmel1 :
I found my way to your diary via a comment you left on H2Odragon. Just wanted to leave you a note saying I was fascinated to read your ancestor's story, and I hope you'll be sharing more!
from greenwitch :
Figures that a woman with a brain tumor would be considered "crazy" rather than ill.... one of the reasons I am an herbalist and a witch.... no men needed... no degree needed.... no fear needed..... Love the stories keep it coming.
from irisheyes70 :
Thank you for sharing that! Oh, how I wish my grandmother kept journals. She had many secrets though. Secrets that mom and I will never know... Maybe it's for the best.
from greenwitch :
You are very lucky to have writing from your grandmother. Your story rings so true to the stories that my mother told while I was growing up. She was only educated to the sixth grade or so but she had a gift for oral herstory. Her mother ran a boarding house during WWII and my mother had a whole bunch of stories about the GI's who were waiting to embark for the European front. My mother was born in 1915 and could have easily been a child of your grandmother..... very nicely offered. Thank you.
from irisheyes70 :
That story was incredible! Did you find a diary belonging to your ancestors or something? What a treasure!
from polly-esther :
It's a glossy magazine, fairly thick (about 200 pages) so it might be the same one you're thinking of. There's another called Vegas magazine that's more like a fashion mag that can be found in some rooms too.
from h2odragon :
Number one on my list is GO TO EUROPE .. often
from polly-esther :
I've been meaning to leave you a note! I think it's great that you'll be with your sisters shortly after the anniversary of your mother's death. Losing my mother has made me see how important family is and we're closer than ever now. I hope you all have a great visit. Man, since you retired you've been traveling quite a bit! I meant to say before that your most recent cruise sounded wonderful...
from irisheyes70 :
Hey there, twin! Teehee. Actually, I'm 5'4" but I tell everyone I'm 5'5", like it makes a difference. Oh, and you love Jodi Picoult books too! Yup. Separated at birth! A few years off. ;)
from webmiss :
Hi there. Thanks for your note. I actually checked out your diary a couple months ago but was too shy to post. I just made the jump over to wordpress, I was impressed with what I saw at Yankeechick's blog. I've added you to my blogroll so I can be kept up to date!
from greenwitch :
Hey terri, you keep lighting up as updated but the 6/9 entry apprears. I guess andrew didn't fix things afterall. Try emailing him at [email protected]. Maybe if folks bug him it will get better.
from h2odragon :
It isn't too much. My Ex got caught twice in 6 weeks and he has to serve a mandatory 6 months and his fine was just as big because he, unlike Paris, was hit with a second OUI. She just got a probation violation.
from irisheyes70 :
I have to say, I don't feel a bit sorry for Paris. I think this is a long overdue dose of reality that her parents never gave her. There are indeed consequences for her actions! I just hope she learns that lesson now and that it's not too late. 45 days in jail for a third offense of DUI and driving w/ a suspended license? Too much? No, ma'am. Not in the least. Apparently suspending her license isn't enough to get her to follow the law, maybe this will be a wake up call. Maybe she'll continue to act like a ridiculous spoiled little girl and will blow the whole thing off. Like I said, I sure hope not!
from irisheyes70 :
I've never seen a glacier. Or a whale. :( But I've seen lots of bald eagles, caribou, mouse like to traipse through my back yard and we had two Great Horned Owls living at our house for a while. But I'd really love to see some whales! I'm so glad you have a nice trip to my neck of the woods. :) If only it wasn't such a gigantic neck!
from yankee-chick :
I LOVE the Oregon coast!! Second only to Alaska in breath taking beauty! I always thought that if we ever left Alaska, that would be my choice of where to live. When we were retired and traveling, we traveled the coast from Washington to Calif several times and always spent several days near Tillamook and Waldport (I think it was). GREAT place!
from h2odragon :
Reading about your trip makes me really want to start mine. It all sounds just wonderful!
from forty-plus :
The animals sightings, scenery and towns visited sound wonderful!
from irisheyes70 :
What are these other illustrations of Mary Englebreit you speak of M'lady? I was once a Princess of Quite a Lot myself. Now I have 3 Princesses of Quite a Lot and Two Princes of Whatever's Left. LOL!
from yankee-chick :
So, M'Lady, where is this other blog...may I be so bold as to ask?!?!
from h2odragon :
I've only traveled RCL also and loved it. I don't think I'll switch after reading your assessment of NCL. Sounds like a great time though as far as travel goes!
from yankee-chick :
Yay!!! You're back! I've missed you and can't wait to read about all of your adventures!! XOXOX
from irisheyes70 :
How soon until your trip my way? Only a few days now, it's it? How I wish Valdez was closer to us! It's something like a 6 hour drive from where we live. It would be so nice to meet and gaze at the glaciers together!
from h2odragon :
I agree. My brother was a sheriff and is now on disability because of his work.
from la-the-sage :
Well done with the exercise, sweetie! That's fantastic and empowering (when you can walk and lift your arms again that is). ~LA
from yankee-chick :
2 great entries! You ARE truly blessed, my friend, as am I for having sweet friends like you :)
from h2odragon :
I would think that a new girly VW would be a great cure for depression! Grats!
from yankee-chick :
Your new car sounds like FUN!! Enjoy it!
from la-the-sage :
YAY for Daisy Beetles! Too cool! Drive it in safety and good fun, honey. ~LA
from boxx9000 :
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! That's QUITE a milestone. I have my 33rd anniversary coming up, or is that 27? or is that 6 months? It depends from which wedding date I choose to count. hehehe. Anyways, I'm still in love with the same man I have been with (off and on) my entire life. Who could have EVER predicted THAT one?
from polly-esther :
Happy anniversary! I believe in mediums -- I've read books by and about George Anderson, who is considered the best in the world. But there are frauds, too. I'm glad your brother-in-law is getting some comfort from exploring this.
from h2odragon :
Happy Anniversary! That's a looooonnng time! I went to a medium once and saw some things that were hard to explain unless there was an after life and mediumship was true. I don't know how it works but they seem to know thing sthey shouldn't ordinarily. I hope he finds comfort in that.
from forty-plus :
Happy 42nd Anniversary!!!!!
from h2odragon :
Have a great time on your road trip. And you're right, it's the contrats of what I went through and now that makes all this extra sweet. (and I think I'm sticking with white walls now that the bed is a wood color)
from h2odragon :
Your sisters post here? Link them :)
from yankee-chick :
Great entry with your Blog questions and answers. I love stuff like that, as well as agreeing with the way you responded to most of them! I'm glad we're friends. I enjoy all of our interaction! ~Hug~
from h2odragon :
What a nice justification for you and how you saw your job. It *was* tough!
from forty-plus :
We had our first moments of spring yesterday! It's so promising!
from forty-plus :
I am not talking about a ring any longer. He'll get one for me if he wants to and the one that I loved was snatched up by someone else! :( It just wasn't meant to be.
from h2odragon :
Here's hoping the blahs up and go just as suddenlyt as they appeared (and thanks for the ideas at H2odragon!)
from la-the-sage :
Sorry to hear you have the blahs, hon. Hope the weekend brings a brighter perspective and something distracting and fun to do. (Mine will, actually two things to 'do'. heh.) ~LA
from h2odragon :
It's things like this that show how far we've come as women too! I was surprised that a dynasty (led by men) tried to stop this foot binding process so long ago.
from greenwitch :
I had a friend at a job who was from the philipines and her grandmother was chinese and the grandmother's feet were bound. Sounded really nasty. Civilization. What a concept!
from polly-esther :
Hi Terri. I've been meaning to leave you a note to say I'm sorry for the pain your relationship with your sister has been causing you. It's great that you haven't given up on her. Maybe one day she'll realize how lucky she is to have a sister like you and you can have a stronger relationship.
from greenwitch :
Hey sometimes people just don't make much sense or they don't want to talk about it. You can only do what you are able and clearly you are reaching out in every way possible. You are a very kind person to do all the reaching out.
from la-the-sage :
I am the missing sister/daughter/niece in my family. They make me unhappy, those people. They are mean and small and try to make me feel horrible for being neither. I can't say what the deal is with your family, why those sibs chose to stay away. But for me, staying away keeps me happy and sane. Besides, nobody is missing me on their end anyhow. The idea any of them would hurt over my absence is a giggle. So, this black sheep is quite content. ~LA
from yankee-chick :
I'm sorry for your sadness. It's so painful to watch those we love make such sad mistakes and there's only so much we can do! YOU are a very special person indeed and can be very proud of yourself for all you efforts!
from forty-plus :
What a sad and lonely woman your sister must be.
from irisheyes70 :
I wish I could give you a big hug right now! You always have such wonderful words of wisdom and I regretfully don't have any for you. I only hope your sister comes back to you one day soon. You BIL sounds like he's such a reining force in her life. I hope she finds health and happiness on her birthday.
from greenwitch :
Wow, tough time with your sister. I hope she can find help and reconnect with family and get out with friends.
from forty-plus :
Loved those funny statements!
from summer-gale :
Grats on the cruise! That is one that Fred and I hope to do someday soon too. Let me know if there is anything that we shouldn't miss.
from summer-gale :
I read Fred the joke about Tonto Goldstien Bubba and he laughed like crazy.
from greenwitch :
Hi there. I am very familiar with NY divorce law considering I have two very close friends who have completed the process and one who is just setting out. 18% of R'man's income isn't much and that is what the state insists on. In amicable situations some men do the right thing and contribute more. Unfortunatelty too many work off the books or become totally freeloaders and never pay a dime in support. So, I feel a strong need to get on my feet before making any big steps. I have no idea if R'man will fall off the wagon and go straight down the crapper when I serve him. I need to know I can manage on my own. Thank you sooo much for all the support {hug}
from summer-gale :
I've often wondered about the taxes. My home is modest and I have trouble making the taxes. If I was in trouble in the first place it wouldn't be much of a gift if it forced me to sell my house. But there is that. They could sell the house and buy a normal one with a paid off mortgage and maybe have 100,000 or more left over for education and such but that's harsh if you like where you live.
from polly-esther :
Yeah, I do have layers like that...sometimes it's hard to really see all of my hair in the photos. I hope you're staying warm!
from greenwitch :
Thanks for the support. This is just a really crappy turn with A. sick and all. As for the makeovers I agree they should be such that the homeowner can still afford to live in the home. Otherwise what is the point?
from forty-plus :
Thank you for thinking of YS & SG with the funeral service. It was very, very nice of you and meant a lot to me.
from polly-esther :
Thanks, Terri! I actually just added a bunch of new pictures to my latest entry. It sounds like you had fun at the casino. I've never heard of a card to limit gambling at $500. It's probably a good idea -- some people can't control themselves.
from yankee-chick :
Didn't find your email?!?
from forty-plus :
You have such a great approach to life events!
from bebelua :
you don't ever have to worry about me feeling preached to by you. you're a good person and i value and appreciate your advice/input/thoughts, no matter what it is. i always take the time to think it over, so thanks for taking the time to reach out. in other news, i wanted to ask you about that movie eight below: my husband and i are interested in seeing it, but we literally can't watch anything that has anything bad happen to a dog (abuse, death, abandonment, etc) or we get upset for like, the whole nrest of the day (or longer). i know, we're wusses. but can you let me know if the movie is safe for us to watch? we've avoided it thus far because we're betting a dog dies or is mistreated at some point...
from greenwitch :
Glad you are feeling better and having some fun.
from yankee-chick :
Been trying to leave messages in your guest book, but it doesn't seem to like me (pout). Anyway, I'm glad the Dr gave you some good meds and I hope you are feeling lots better real soon! I have suffered the same thing many times...not fun at all. Take care! 'hugs'
from polly-esther :
That's hilarious!!! I hope you feel better very soon! I had chronic sinusitis for seven months a few years back and I didn't know that the hell was wrong with me. Right now Matt has a stomach flu and let me just say, it's not pretty. I am defending myself with Purell and keeping my distance...
from summer-gale :
I hope you feel better soon. Sinus problems are so painful. I'm surprised you could still manage a laugh for us.
from sunnflower :
Sorry you are so sick. Hope you are all better again soon! Hugs.
from greenwitch :
Wow, sorry to hear you are still feeling sick. I hope you feel better soon. I will be looking into the free first chiroprator visit idea asap. What a good idea.
from forty-plus :
I don't know if this came through the guestbook - didn't look like it but I wanted to say thank you for reading my words. Your encouragement is treasured.
from polly-esther :
Don't worry -- I just wanted to say hi and see how he's doing. I have no romantic interest in him whatsoever! Trust me.
from greenwitch :
Mmm, guestbook isn't letting me in or it is down yet again..... Anyway, I hope you are feeling much better. Be careful with the mucinex it can get a bit speedy if you take too much. Go with lotsa soup!!
from summer-gale :
I've been de-cluttering for years it just seems to come in faster than I can ship it out!
from yankee-chick :
Thank you so much for the notes and the encouragement! I will try to satisfy your couriosity soon! Did I spell that right? This thing really needs spell check! Anyway, I look forward to your '5cents' worth!!
from polly-esther :
Thanks for your notes, Terri. Matt asked me to lunch yesterday after our fight in the morning and everything was forgotten. He actually was with me while I was in PA for all but the first few days. I think i'm just unclear a lot of times in my entries when it comes to details...but in any case I think you're right, that he's been feeling on edge lately too because he's supporting me and it's draining. I don't think a happy new year is possible this year for me and my family and probably yours as well...
from summer-gale :
I'm with you on the diet. Happy New Years to you and yours!
from irisheyes70 :
I'm so sorry about SIL. You've been in my prayers. I wanted to let you know that your comments over the past few months have always meant so much and I really appreciate the time you take writing them. Thank you! I'm sorry I don't reciprocate as much as I should. Happy New Year to another Terri!
from summer-gale :
Lights blinking is a sure sign. It happened to me as a child.
from heidiann :
Thank you so much for the comment you left. For some reason it made me so happy that I teared up. Thank you thank you thank you. xox
from summer-gale :
I'm happy to see you cheering up but losing a person that felt like real family will take awhile to recover from. My SIL is as close to me as a real sister. She'd be tough to let go of and that's how I imagine your pain in my heart.
from summer-gale :
I too am sorry for the loss of your SIL and am sorry for her family this Christmas.
from greenwitch :
Mmmm, your right. Dull does mean nothing has gone particularly wrong. A big hug to you and your family as you deal with the loss of your SIL during the holiday season.
from greenwitch :
You know, somehow I missed your entry about your SIL passing. I am so sorry for your loss but very glad to hear that she was able to be at home and comfortable. She sounds like a very strong and beautiful person.
from greenwitch :
Have fun on the cruise. Happy Thanksgiving!!
from polly-esther :
I'm so sorry, Terri! I'm glad you had the chance to see your SIL one last time. Try to enjoy your cruise. I know it will be difficult. But she loved to travel, so keep that in your heart. Happy Thanksgiving.
from summer-gale :
I'm sorry for the loss of your sister in law. She sounds like she was an inspirational woman.
from bathtubmary :
i am so sorry for your loss. that was a beautiful entry. xo, d
from summer-gale :
I'm sorry to hear about your sister in Law. She is too young and it will be hard on her children. We should all go pain free at 100 but it just doesn't happen.
from greenwitch :
I love the piece by the pediatrician. We women do need to step up and make a difference but most of all people need to stop being such monsterous consumers and look around them.
from polly-esther :
I hope your SIL is OK. It's wonderful that your family came together to see her...I'm sure that meant a lot to her. Do you know how much time she has left? And that's great that your sister is getting her own apartment! I bet your other sister is happy!
from bebelua :
omg, i hope it's not periomenopause! i was totally kidding when i said that. i'm only 33!!
from polly-esther :
Hi Terri, I'm so sorry to hear about your sister-in-law. I admire her for doing so much traveling and living life to its fullest while she could. Your writing about her taught me about Huntington's Disease so thank you for that. I know your time with her this week will be difficult but I'm sure that the presence of you and the rest of the family will be very comforting. About your sister, the one thing I kept wondering is, how old is she?! It's got to be tough for you to be caught in the middle of their dispute, but it sounds like you're handling it well. Your sister is just hurt and is lashing out. Hopefully she'll take some of your advice.
from greenwitch :
I'm thinking of you as you work through your SIL's illness {{hug}}
from polly-esther :
You're a Mary Janes fan!! Yes, you should've been at my house! I would have given you a whole bag of 'em. I guess people of all ages go trick-or-treating here because this is Las Vegas and everyone's looking for a handout. Who knows, but it's definitely odd. My sister says my mom's wig is light blonde and short but with long layers. Her real hair is gray, but I think she always wanted to be blonde so she's really pleased with it.
from bebelua :
i really wish i knew what was going on with my comments. they work fine when i test them out. i don't know why it's not working for you :(
from summer-gale :
Hi! Glad your porch is up. I'm still not quite sure what the difference between posts and railings are but I'm sure its stunning. Grats on SS coming soon and thanks for sharing the story of Diana's dress. It was very interesting!
from polly-esther :
Hi Terri, I just wanted to say thank you for your kind notes and letting me know that you really do understand what's going on with me right now. Happiness is a choice and I'm trying really hard to stay positive. I know things will get worse, so I have to stay strong and just hold it together for now. About the porch thing, personally I wouldn't get the railings. At $600 it's a lot of money and I bet it looks great as is!
from summer-gale :
I'm not sure what you're describing. If the posts are the vertical component and the railings are the horizontal component on top of the posts wouldn't be against code to have no railings? Aren't they considered a safety factor?
from summer-gale :
I have the same quirks as you except the 3 mispellings thing. I never use a typewriter anymore so I correct all mistakes I find and then hit print.
from irisheyes70 :
You have very sensible quirks. I can say that because I share most of them! LOL I forgot we both love Jodi Picoult books. I just finished Picture Perfect and I have Salem Falls waiting for me. What are your favorites? Plain Truth is still mine so far.
from summer-gale :
I have the exact same thing! I can have a cat but only if it doesn't share my bedroom. I know you'll miss it but try it for just a week and shut them out. Just give them more loving while wathching TV and the couch will become the special place to them.
from summer-gale :
I went on the coaster and it leans OUT! I was terrified! My brother went on the Big Shot and loved it. I'm glad I did the coaster but I will NEVER do it again! Just walking out on teh observation deck kicked in my vertigo for a good 10 minutes before I could walk around out there. What an experience! Glad you loved it!
from polly-esther :
That's so funny! My building is on the far north side of campus literally right off Mary1and Parkway so you probably did see it.
from polly-esther :
Did you have fun in Las Vegas? The weather was nice, wasn't it? What did you do?
from summer-gale :
Now that's the way to do retirement. Good luck!
from polly-esther :
Geocaching sounds cool. I've always wondered what that was like. About Molly, it just sucks because she has the potential to win a lot of money she doesn't deserve, and she's very smart, so I'm sure she'll do somewhat well. I feel bad because we're friends, but she's so intolerable lately. I'll let you know when she show airs!
from alostfriend :
cute photo of lucy on your homepage .. "I love the sound of clinking nickels" .. don't you just love the peanuts gang .. they dont make cartoons like that anymore
from greenwitch :
Perimenopause..... yup I am the water spinning around before it goes down the drain <lol>
from summer-gale :
Another birthday! and what a story! Holy Moly that was close!
from summer-gale :
Awww! What a wonderful tribute to a well loved man. I'm a little late but tell him happy birthday from me too.
from greenwitch :
You should still be able to leave a note for Summergale via her profile and request the needed info. If that doesn't work let me know. The plumber is here as I type. Next comes the electrician for more outlets and lights then the fourth wall goes up. It is not much compared to the whole project but it will all still take a while given how busy I am and getting folks to come and do the specialized work.
from summer-gale :
The inside and the outside are the same
from summer-gale :
That was a very honest and sweet letter to your younger self. I'd be afraid to look that closely. All I made was mistakes but most of my results I wouldn't have wanted to miss anyhow so I guess I'd do the same.
from greenwitch :
Psychics are either complete fakes or totally on the mark. You have been lucky in finding the real thing. Funny you went to one in Texas since Rainman knows a woman who moved there. She was very very good.
from polly-esther :
I get the same way when I don't have a lot to do. I always need to keep busy or I fall into a funk. Keeping a schedule sounds like a great idea. About my mom, it's funny because my sisters were thinking about doing just what you suggested. We'll see if they follow through. You're lucky you only had to wait a short time to get your license and plates! I guess with all the new people moving to Las Vegas (something like 3,000 new residents every month) the DMVs are constantly packed. It's horrible.
from red-savannah :
Thanks for the birthday wishes! I missed reading you!
from polly-esther :
Your sister-in-law is so brave. Her illness is so devistating, but at least she has a lot of support. I hope Callie gets better soon. That sounds like a nightmare getting her into the carrier and I can't believe she bit your husband that hard! I have a calico named Callie too. She's my second Calico. The other one, who died three years ago, was Cali. (I didn't name either of them!)
from mydreamhouse :
Congrats on the retirement!! I love your list of "to do" things. Sounds similiar to what I would do!!
from mydreamhouse :
Happy Belated Anniversary!!! 41 years!! WOW!! Congrats!!
from red-savannah :
I love the 13 life rules! Especially the WD-40 one.
from summer-gale :
Happy St Patty's Day to you too!
from heidiann :
I'm trying to make the small changes so it doesn't seem so impossible. I just discovered Black Cherry Vanilla Diet Coke and I'm in heaven! Heaven, I tells ya!
from summer-gale :
Well I guess you lived up to your nick name and gave us yoru 5 cents. Unfortunately it's all true. It's the same here although I found a weatherman I like. He was in the perfect storm movie. Todd.
from red-savannah :
As an actual, degree holding meteorologist, I have to agree on your news rant. On our Fox station here in CT, they actually BRAG about how the weatherman 'doesn't use meteorological mumbo-jumbo,' basically saying they are proud to do weather for morons. I hate CT weatherpeople, they are overpaid gimmicks!!
from sunnflower :
Merry Christmas! I hope you had a wonderful holiday.
from mydreamhouse :
Great entry today, but GET BACK TO CLEANING, lol. I'm doing the same thing you are!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
from summer-gale :
Happy Birthday! I won't ask how old are you now though! I've had enough 39 year old birthdays myself. PS I loved the Love Dress. LOL!
from red-savannah :
Happy belated Birthday! You make me laugh and laugh...xoxoxo
from summer-gale :
I have to admit that I've had a melt down during the holidays that some poor person caught the raw end of before. I try not to get too hungry or too tired and stressed out and set limits now.

I agree with you when it comes to the sugar cookies. They're traditional, yummy, and fun to decorate. Thanks for the tips :)
from summer-gale :
Thanks for all the support at my site. I was missing fo rquite awhile and thought everyone would move on but they didn't. Whew! I love the jokes you posted and hope your sister that moved is working out in the new state.
from mydreamhouse :
Thank you for all of your kind words in my guestbook of my diary! It so weird that people I do not even know are interested in what I have to say!! Wait until you see todays entry, lol!!
from heidiann :
Thank you! I was in desperate need of a reminder from life that the bad doesn't last forever and lo and behold...! =)
from red-savannah :
Awww! A sweet little kitten on Thanksgiving! Maybe you can put her in a room with some treats and toys during dinner so she doesn't decide to steal the show! Although, if it were me, the little cat would have her own place setting at the table. ;-D
from myherois84 :
random signing from a random person ;)
from greenwitch :
Wow, 40 years. That is a long time. Wonderful for you. Sounds like you made decisions that make sense. I am waiting to hear more.
from irisheyes70 :
What a great rant! There's a guy at my husband's office who's the worst. Michael will be on the phone with me or a client and he'll burst through his office door and just start blabbing. Michael has to tell this guy to get the hell out of his office and either knock, or wait until he's off the phone because he'll stand next to him and listen to his converstations. And THANK YOU for the applesauce suggestion. Maggie felt so much better after eating. :)
from red-savannah :
Welcome back!!! That stinks about the shoddy service. I'd have demanded to speak to a manager, but that's why I avoid chain restaruants like the plague.
from summer-gale :
You're killing me! I know some of these jokes are old but I never heard them before! Your road trip sounds wonderful. I'm glad you had a wonderful time!
from summer-gale :
I am so jealous of your road trip! But I have to tell you that I've been emailing some of teh jokes to people. Some of them are hilarious!
from sunnflower :
Hi and thanks so much for adding Suburban Island to your favorites list. I am very honored. I'll be coming back to read more of your diary too now that I have discovered it.
from sunnflower :
Hi from Suburban Island. I just wanted to say how much your recent post noting some statistics about life in America from 100 years ago. We forget all this and it was a good reminder of how fast the world is changing.
from irisheyes70 :
Thanks for your comments about Maggie's thyroid. I felt much better afterwards! Fabulous entry today. I have a hard time because one of my D-land friends became an Atheist a few months ago. She's so militant about it. Getting angry when someone offers a "God bless you" when she sneezes when she promised she'd never be that extreme. She taught her daughter to say "under no one" instead of "under God" when she says the Pledge at school. I pray for her a lot, but I feel bad because knowing that would probably really make her mad. "Under no one." How far we've fallen as a Nation.
from summer-gale :
I was wondering what it was that you'd say to the class. If you email me at [email protected] I will give you the password for my password protected entries. I tried to email you through your contact link at diaryland but it didn't work.
from irisheyes70 :
That atheist guy drives me nuts! I thought we'd heard the last of him. How sad. I feel really sorry for him, and even sorrier for the state of our country because of him! Argh!
from summer-gale :
That was some story about Dust Off. What a tragedy.
from summer-gale :
I like this story. Your family history is very interesting and you write very well!
from chillier :
Hey - you're an Indiana girl, how nice :) I was in South Bend all weekend. My Dad went to Notre Dame for undergrad and met my Mom while she was at Holy Cross nursing school. She grew up in South Bend but has lived on the East Coast since she was 21.
from summer-gale :

I'm retarded. I finally put you in my favorites. I was looking and saying where's Teri? when I realized I never did it! Dumb and dumber, that's me. So you're there now and you forgot one of my favorite scents. I live near the ocean and I love the salt air.
