Done.

Right. We should exchange contacts. My diary being locked I've been using real names of people, places & things. I think only 3 people read me (who have known me for years) but you're welcome to read --- I just think I should go back first and code-name everything for the sake of propriety. I'd like to tune you into my real life web site and all that, however.

"Social media allows conspiracy theory out into the open and allows any goofball with a phone to think they're an independent journalist." That's where I was headed. Due to social media, there are more people CLAIMING to be "journalists" these days than earlier, which might account for why I seem to be meeting more of them lol. In all fairness though, most of the people I've met in journalism have integrity. (You obviously do.)
from musikoid :
I had been wondering if journalism is somehow being cheapened through social media. There seem to be less hard copy newspapers going around these days, and more "independent news sites" (replete with ads and typos). It's not quite the same, for me.
from musikoid :
As you describe it, that's pretty much the way I've begun to look at it. It's amazing how many journalists I seem to just happen to meet these days.
from musikoid :
I find this to be true of journalism in particular. I've only been involved in journalism for two or three years, and have only been published in four different papers or news sites. You mention our having to rely on factual data makes for a reduction in creative ideas, however I find this to be balanced out by the thrill of seeking the exact right word -- the one most likely to reach the largest reader base. But as I say, I'm kind of a newbie, and have been primarily a musician prior to this.

I feel the same way about our language. I really enjoy trying to choose the right words.
from musikoid :
You do use words very well. I noticed that when reading a couple of your entries.
from musikoid :
"Sussed" it out. Interesting expression. You're not from the British Isles, are you?
from musikoid :
Takes one to know one. ;)

Your "line of wordsmithery" is (let me guess) journalism?

update April 6, 2020: Sorry, we just had 8+ hours downtime due to a server problem. Restoring from backups took soooo long, but everything is back and no data was lost. Ay yay yay! Anyhow, hope everyone is well with the virus stuff.
