I popped by and saw your note from months ago and it warmed my little cold heart, oh the old days!!! Congrats on all your successes!! Hip hip! I'm all for choices! If it's something you really want, you'll figure something out (this coming from someone who has never felt the urge to have kids).
from planetqueen :
I still come here! I am so lucky to have virtually met some lovely people through diaryland xxx
from planetqueen :
I wish you and your sister all the luck in the world and hope you both end up mother's. Best wishes always xxx
from cruel-irony :
So good to hear from you! I've thought of you over the intervening years and wondered how you were doing. I'll have to take a peek at your archives and get caught up. Glad you're well and thanks for your thoughtful notes.
from kayemess :
Definitely use the Max if your rolling suitcase is manageable and the hotel is near the line. Cheap and fun. I'm in Portland this weekend! You will have no trouble finding delicious food and excellent beer, I promise you. Have fun!
from catsoul :
hi, I am wondering if I could get your PW. My email is: [email protected] Thank you ever so much. =^..^=
from batten :
Hey you're all locked up... could you email me? jenn_hinesATyahoo.com?
from planetqueen :
Its always lovely to read your updates and I am glad you made the right decision for you xxx
from batten :
Find a mentor in the field of academia toute suite! And ask them. Or ask an advisor or an already tenured prof you respect and like and run the scenario past them... can't advise you on this.. am still jobless and prosepcts are bleak for me... but you have options and shouldn't sign on the dotted line unless it's a) the only option or b) possible to negotiate for a more reasonable prospect after signing. (grin) Big hug.
from planetqueen :
I really enjoyed my thirties and 37 was my favourite ever year - hope you have a lovely year too xxx
from batten :
Happy Birthday honey! I hope this year is a wonderful one for you. Big hug. -J
from oh-sweet-pea :
happy birthday! i loved the 30's as well. yes, indulge in something nice :)
from oh-sweet-pea :
Don't wait until 2014, things will work themselves out in some way, I'm sure of it. Hugs to you, dear.
from planetqueen :
Really hope you do find the right academic job for you and so glad that from 2014 onwards America will have a better system of health cover (and thanks for explaining it for me!). And, if you do find a job at a bookshop, clothes store or wholefood store - do put a word in for me!! :)
from planetqueen :
I am quite ignorant of your health care system in the US given that here in the UK we have the wonderful NHS - so I am very interested to know: what will the 2014 legislation mean for people in the US? I know there is work being done on your health care system but I have no clue what it is.
from batten :
I'm just trying to keep the seeming job inertia from becoming apathy/depression. So I don't spend much time online besides the virtual stomping the job lines... getting myself up and out of the house is kinda key right now. I'm cooking and cleaning my friends houses for $$ trying to make ends meet. It isn't much but it's more than nothing and I'm grateful for the distraction... How are you doing? Feeling okay? Big hug to you, honey.
from batten :
Hi honey. Hope all is well. Some wierdness going on. My journal won't accept my login or my password all of a sudden. I didn't change it so I'm a tad freaked out. Could you email me at [email protected] and send them to me?
from kayemess :
Portland is my favourite US city hands down. Definitely apply! Biking, eating, scenery, creativity, it is all there x100. Good jobs are not there x100 so if you have a lead on one...
from planetqueen :
If you are on facebook and would like to be facebook friends that would be great :) email me at: [email protected] if you would like my full name to find me xxx (but don't worry if you don't want to - I won't be at all insulted :))
from planetqueen :
We are fine thank you. Bex is still happy living with her boyfriend and Beanie is now at pre-school three afternoons a week! How is your dad doing? Hope everything is going well with him xxx
from planetqueen :
Happy New Year. Hope 2011 is wonderful for you and your family xxx
from oh-sweet-pea :
happy new year, let's make 2011 the best one yet, okay? okay!
from batten :
Sweetheart, I'm praying for you and your dad and your whole family, I'm sure that things will be okay but keep us posted? Just know that you are loved and supported by a huge bunch faceless anonymous nameless tribe of your biggest fans and friends... Love you very much and I know your dad will be okay. -Jenn
from planetqueen :
Thinking of you and your dad and family x
from planetqueen :
Yum! Enjoy the vegetarian festival :)
from batten :
thanks honey. I'll be fine. I'm just tired of waiting and tired of being alone. Sailing tonight will take the edge off for a little while longer. Hey keep us posted about your dad, okay? Big hug.
from planetqueen :
Very very best wishes to your dad. Being a long time reader I remember the last time. I very much hope everything goes well for him. Elizabeth x ps Enjoy your vacation :)
from n-poledancer :
Congratulations! Well done. You must be elated.
from planetqueen :
Congratulations :) You have done so so well. It's fab x
from batten :
That is so awesome! Congrats, honey! I knew you were a shoo-in and would pass with flying colours! Anytime you wander up to MD, a celebratory dinner is on me! Big hug. -J
from oh-sweet-pea :
I'm so out of the loop & I'm sure the presentation went fine, but I always vote for cookies. I love cookies more than cakes, brownies or bundts.
from arajane :
my vote is for the brownie or blondie variant. they're the easiest to eat without utensils and usually the most universally loved. i have a fondness for this recipe for coconut-swirled brownies from martha stewart, but then you want to be sure that people will like coconut (but only crazy people don't, right?): http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/coconut-swirl-brownies thinking all sorts of good thoughts for you... good luck!
from kayemess :
If the lemon pound cake had some kind of glaze, I'd be tempted to put that first - then brownies, then chocolate cake. You're right, you need finger food - no crisp! good lukc
from batten :
brownies, cookies and maybe strawberries...? The bundt, pound cake and others will require utensils/plates etc...
from planetqueen :
I would go for either the brownies or chocolate bundt cake first, then the lemon pound cake, then cookies and finally the courgette loaf thing mainly because my mum used to make a courgette cake and I didn't like it :)
from batten :
hang in there, honey! I know you can do it. Sleep afterwards...
from n-poledancer :
Hi there! Thanks for the welcome. Its just the most perfect venting place isnt it? Hehe. The dog story is really sad yes, second one in only 2 years - I found this one at the shelter when looking for the other one, he was almost dead there and in a terrible state so its comforting to know he had a couple of really good years before leaving. He was amazing, such a great dog.
from red-wine :
I too am phone-shy. Almost cripplingly so. Had a phone interview for my current job and thought for sure I'd blown it because of all my "errs" and "ummms" and overly animated giggles. I find it helps to force yourself to sit in one place (I also pace like a caged animal when on the phone) and close your eyes. Good luck though!!!
from batten :
Pretend like you're talking to a bunch of us. Not quite so informal but relaxed. Treat it as if they already know you and like you. And smile while you're talking, dear. That comes through big-time on the phone. Big hug. I know you'll do a great interview.
from planetqueen :
We are all fine here thanks. Beanie is over two now and so much fun. Every day she talks more and more. I can never get over how quickly it goes and I am enjoying every moment :)
from planetqueen :
Happy Easter and very very well done on your dissertation proposal :)
from planetqueen :
gosh - very very good luck with your proposal. I really love reading how you are doing. It enthuses me that one day I may do the MA and PhD I would like to do. Once again, very best wishes x
from kayemess :
I'm graduating library Masters in May with verrry similar slim pickings and no desire to live in Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa eg all the places that have jobs. I've never done a visualization before but I'm tempted to make a v. board for myself - anything to get a job in the place I want to live. Good Luck!
from bathtubmary :
sorry to hear of your hurts, darling. thinking of you and i hope you find some relief soon. xo, d
from planetqueen :
Glad you had a lovely Christmas. Happy New Year 2010. Lots of best wishes x
from batten :
Osteopenia? Is that kin to osteoporosis? Obvs must go wiki and google for further information. Holy handgrenades, woman... how the buckets did you manage that? I'm not exactly online very much right now as I've lost my job and I've no wireless to pirate inmy neighborhood. But if you need me, email me at jenn_hinesATyahoodotcom. We'll talk. In the meantime, have a wonderful holiday season. Hang in there and I'll be praying for you. Big hug.
from bathtubmary :
thinking of you, my friend. you have a great attitude! xoxo, d
from batten :
honey, stress packs on pounds... I don't think it's purely endocrinological... will keep you in prayer. Hang in there... It'll all be alright, somehow. Big hug to you.
from mrs-roboto :
I'm sorry things look/feel bleak right now. I can relate. Hang in there. It's got to get better, right?
from bathtubmary :
aw, man! feel better soon, lady, and i hope the same for your mom. your academic success is awesome though - so well deserved. xoxo, d
from planetqueen :
Good luck with your powerpoint presentation :) If you see this when you get back - then hope it went well!
from planetqueen :
congratulations :)
from bathtubmary :
woo hoo! awesome. xoxo, d
from batten :
Hooray! Congrats honey!
from myra-lee :
Yaaaay!!! Congratulations! Nice work, Tiger.
from bathtubmary :
hang in there lady, i know you're doing great. xoxo, d
from bathtubmary :
great job! i'm so happy for you. xoxo, d
from planetqueen :
Well done on the race :)
from kayemess :
I love the judgement based on the last name - just this morning I was looking at the hospital birth announcement of my kid who has a hypehnated Spanish sounding last name - and they gave us the all Spanish announcement and discharge documents. Assume much?
from planetqueen :
Hope your school year goes well. I would love to do some more studying one day. I always love your updates. Best wishes.
from planetqueen :
have a brilliant trip :)
from batten :
Are you okay? Is there anything we can do to help?
from planetqueen :
hope you are okay x
from arajane :
oh how i hated those coasties! sorry to hear about your advisor's husband. i don't think it's at all selfish to think about how it will affect you. i know you are a very sympathetic and caring person... it's just human to think about all the ramifications of certain events. hang in there!
from oh-sweet-pea :
Happy birthday (belated, of course, since I'm such a slow poke here)!!! I definitely feel old and I never really had much of a metabolism to speak of. I know how you feel. Sigh...
from batten :
Mid 30's for me. I went off BC 7 years ago after I ran away frm the monster but even before BC I was regular as clockwork so no real help for you there... Sorry honey. I did notice that if I listened to my body's real "cravings" I lost weight instead of putting on PMS weight. Spinach, bacon, red meat, salads versus pasta, that kind of thing. Hope you feel better soon. email me if there's anything I can do or do to help? Big hug. -J
from planetqueen :
I reckon your metabolism starts to drop at around 25. That was the age I was when I first noticed that I could not longer eat anything I wanted without noticeable effects. Its been nearly 18 months since I had a baby and yet my clothes are still tight despite being vegan and exercising daily. I expected my top half to be bigger because I am still breast feeding but my bottom things are still tight too. I had a very low esteen day yesterday about it, its always worse when the sun is shining and I want to wear pretty things. My breastfeeding boobs make my look huge (I think) anyway but it would be so much nicer if I was my normal size everywhere else and I knew it was just that that was making me a bit bigger. I totally sympathise. I hope you are well and have a lovely summer.
from oh-sweet-pea :
Yay congrats on the new job!! And of course, I want to hear more about the love life!! Exciting times.
from bathtubmary :
HONEY! congrats, that is so awesome. thank you for all your words of encouragement and stuff - it's amazing how much we've 'been through' together in these years, considering we haven't yet met. xoxoxo, d
from oh-sweet-pea :
I think so, I hope so, maybe not?
from red-wine :
Oh, the ancient query! I think men and woman can absolutely be friends, but many have a hidden agenda. Or the agenda can develop later. I am quite familiar with both. But, for the sake of argument, I believe that heterosexuals of opposite gender can be friends, but it will be a different type of friendship than they would have with their own sex. But then, aren't all friendships different from each other?
from batten :
Good question. I've mananged to have exes become great friends and be friends with other guys but I've also been told (by guys) that most guys always have some sort of hope for something more. I do doubt that theory though. I have some really amazing guy friends that there's never ever been the remotest possibility of anything but friendship and no "spark" other than great companionship and trust. I dunno. Depends on how the friendship is begun, I think.
from planetqueen :
Any man that said they wanted to be friends with me actually wanted more than that!
from planetqueen :
Bex decided she would give Twitter a try last week. She wrote some long diatribe about how much she hates the Royal Mail postal service here in the UK only to get some disgruntled postman lecturing her almost instantly! She decided she is now anti-twitter! She found being stalked by a postman a bit disconcerting. :)
from red-wine :
Ugh, jeans, don't get me started. I'm tall, so I do OK in that dept., but am long-waisted and prone to muffin top (though I'm working on it). I've had good luck with Gap/Old Navy jeans, but everyone's different and you just have to search until you find a brand that works for you. My favorites are Lucky, but I got them on clearance and will not ever, ever, ever spend $100 to replace them. So, uh, no advice but I feel your pain.
from myra-lee :
Wow - those high-waisted skinny jeans are awful! Those can't possibly look good on anyone. As for stores/brands, have you tried on Diesel jeans lately? I know they're expensive, but I'm willing to spend for good jeans, and I had some luck on my last trip to the Diesel store. Good luck!
from batten :
Hahahaha! ANTM, me too! Even as I can feel my brain cells commiting hari-kiri I'm yelling at the TV and getting cattier and cattier. And you share my shame! So Awesome! hee! Big hug to you, honey.
from bathtubmary :
the size thing makes me punchy. i'm quite a ways away from a 2, 4, or 6 myself and i refuse to feel anything about that but ok. we define ourselves. i'm happy for kate too. i think she's way too gorgeous for this world in addition to being an amazing actress. xoxo, d
from planetqueen :
Hope you enjoyed your pancakes. We had gorgeous vegan pancakes last night although Beanie couldn't have any as there was too much salt in them but she thinks refusing food is a great game anyway! Slumdog is absolutely brilliant - I hope you enjoy it. I liked it more than Pan's Labyrinth and I liked that lots. Best wishes x
from red-wine :
OK, I think I need to check out that game now. Partly because I like board games and never get to play them, and partly (mostly) because I went to the actual city on my honeymoon and DANG it was cool!
from planetqueen :
I'm reading the Twilight series too at the moment! Have just started the third book 'Eclipse'. V much enjoying the escapism :)
from bathtubmary :
that vacation sounds amazing - i'm so glad you got to experience it (minus the cut - though i'm glad it didn't ruin it for you). as for yoga, i take several different classes with different teachers so some days it's hatha, others meridian or forrest. the class i took last week was vinyasa. i don't know how well i'd like bikram, but to be honest i perspire so much nearly every class feels like bikram to me. xoxo, d
from oh-sweet-pea :
i really really really want to go to hawaii!!! so jealous. happy 2009!!
from red-wine :
Wow, that sounds SO amazing! I've never been to HI but would love to get there someday ... *sigh* And thanks for your kind words - I'll tell my mom you're pulling for her too :)
from batten :
I hope you have a great new year too, honey. Sounds like you got 2009 off to a great start. I'd eat fresh pineapple every day if I could. It's my favorite. Big hug to you. Stay warm. -J
from bathtubmary :
happy new year to you! enjoy every second of you envy-inspiring vacation. you deserve it. xoxo, d
from batten :
Y'know it's totally okay to hit him with those two questions. I'm a big believer in brutal honesty. But playing cool and just going with the flow works too. But if you want answers, it's generally best to go right to the source. Especially if you think there's a chance. My sister went to Swarthmore. Damn fine school so he's not a dunderhead... Go for it, honey. Life's short. Big hug to you. -J
from bathtubmary :
i think you should at least give it a shot. you never know.... enjoy your break! xoxo, d
from bathtubmary :
hey bella - the same thing happened to me with a high school flame. what did we do to those boys? ;-) how's it going with the crush guy? i know it must be super awkward for you, but i have faith that you can let him down easy without leading him on. good luck. xoxo
from planetqueen :
My thoughts would be, if it doesn't feel like the right thing to do, then it probably isn't. It's flattering but if you've only ever thought of him as a friend, then you probably only ever will think of him as a friend. I've been in that situation and much as I tried to like the guy in the right way because I knew we got on well and we were actually best friends before he told me he was in love with me and wanted to date me, I could never think of him as anything other than my friend and it just ended up feeling really weird dating my best friend! Like I was in a play or something.
from batten :
Oh ouch.. it's flattering but also a really difficult sitch. You can always use the excuse of being mired in school but that might give him the excuse to hang on... I dunno. I used to tend to fall off the face of the earth in situations like this (passive aggressive, I know) simply because I didn't want to hurt their feelings. Although recently confronting things head on and speaking the truth has been more my style. And after they get over it, they're willing to still be my friend. I really dunno what to advise. Good luck. Keep us posted. Big hug. -J
from red-wine :
Ooooh, how flattering! But you know what you have to do - and that is, to be honest. You don't have to tell him "sorry, I think you're cool but have a face like a foot" but just say, if you're 100% sure (and it sounds like you are) that the spark isn't there. Everyone can understand that. No one likes to hear it, but it's just part of being human. And do it sooner than later so the poor guy isn't left frothing at the mouth wondering what he's done wrong.
from myra-lee :
I'm with you on the 'Blink' immediate response to guys, and it's so not a purely physical thing. You just get an instant sense, and you know. For me, I'm sometimes surprised by the men I feel instantaneously attracted to, while other guys may be super good looking...but...nothing...happens. At any rate, I don't know how people can be with someone where nothing happens. If you've pictured making out with a guy and the idea holds no interest, I think that's a rough road. And I don't think it's superficial to say that. Especially because once you've been with someone for a long time, you have to make some effort to reignite the spark. Kind of hard to do if there was never any spark to begin with. But he does sound like a nice guy! I *would* suggest an experimental make-out, but it sounds like he's too into you and would end up getting his feelings hurt.
from red-wine :
Genius! I printed out all 4 cards and we're playing tonight! In our case it will be "in addition to" drinking games. I can't freakin' wait for this.
from planetqueen :
Good luck with your proposal deadline :)
from bathtubmary :
DUDE. next time let me know when you're blowing through town! xoxo, d
from bathtubmary :

from oh-sweet-pea :
mmm, i love nepalese food! and that blueberry iced tea sounds fab.
from batten :
Big hug to you, darlin' woman. Thanks for the note. Come play in Napt-wn when school is over and I'll take you sailing with me...
from oh-sweet-pea :
happy belated birthday, you! hope it was enjoyable (and with red velvet cake, how could it not be?)
from planetqueen :
happy happy happy birthday!
from arajane :
yay, happy birthday! i will be thinking of you, wishing i was eating red velvet cake, too!
from bathtubmary :
happy birthday, love! xoxo, d
from batten :
hey you! Updatey please so we know you're okay... Praying. Big hug. -J
from planetqueen :
oooh - hope you are okay.
from planetqueen :
Your paper sounds interesting. I have been gifted and talented co-ordinator at the last two schools I have taught at and we have mixed ability classes mostly throughout our education system here. One thing that was always being said at gifted and talented meetings that I attended is that you should not teach from the middle but from the top - to all from the top that is and then differentiate the work accordingly. The thinking is that if you always work from the top you will raise people up. Just reading what you are working on made me think of that. I entirely agree with you by the way - we shouldn't be labelling from a young age. One thing I always do is extend people within a mixed ability class so no-one gets bored and there may always be someone who surprises you and also someone you think will get something who actually needs more help.
from myra-lee :
Makes sense to me. Good luck!
from n-poledancer :
Hi there, thanks for the tip. I'm totally dying to try out that spa, it just hasn't been in the budget when Ive been up there so far. How are you?
from oh-sweet-pea :
oooh, i wonder if i can revive last years strawberry plant which has sat out on the balcony all winter! good luck with your plants!
from red-wine :
Oh, WOW! That is so cool about the PLU stickers! I took the one off the orange I have in front of me right now, but it is good information to have. I will be avoiding 8's :)
from myra-lee :
I hate feeling like I'm the same age as professors or doctors! It's bizarre. I really hope things are looking up on the health front, with figuring out which drug is right and not facing crazy side effects. You shouldn't apologize for opening the flood gates (not like you did anyway!). The people who read your diary here want to know how you are. We're rooting for you! xoxo.
from oh-sweet-pea :
i'm sending you big ol' internet hugs! i hope you start feeling better soon. my thoughts are with you xoxo
from arajane :
i'm so sorry to hear you've been going through a rough time again. i've been thinking of you and hoping you are well. xoxox,
from bathtubmary :
i'm thinking of you, girl. be well. xoxo, d
from batten :
I am sorry you've gone through all that. I didn't know. I went through a period where I lost the majority of the people I thought were my friends. I'm glad you're doing okay if not totally better. Self-image is a hard thing to deal with especially if it's tied in with recurring medical issues. Eat more. Heck I'll cook for you if that's what it takes. I'm pretty darn handy in the kitchen, y'know. Big hug to you. -J
from bathtubmary :
i love beagles. i want to get me a little hounddog one of these days. xoxo, d
from batten :
Thanks, babe. The center still holds although I'm a little frayed around the edges. All good thoughts and prayers gratefully accepted all around. Want books? I'm getting rid of a ton of them because of the move to the eensy-weensy new place. The others are going into a friends attic. Let me know.
from planetqueen :
we had pancakes for dinner too! We had them with blueberries, grapes and peaches and maple syrup. Very yum!
from myra-lee :
Every time I'm on the treadmill and thinking I better call it quits, Kelly Clarkson comes on my iPod and I suddenly have the energy to run another mile. It was that way with Missy Elliot and Kylie for a long, long time too, but I've finally worn them out. But not Kelly!
from planetqueen :
Emanuella Mary Vandenberg was born on 28th December at 7.28pm weighing 7lb 6oz. I was induced earlier on that day and everything went well but she had to be suctioned out at the end. Both of us are fine although I have a hell of a lot of stitches! Happy New Year x
from oh-sweet-pea :
sounds like a great holiday. games, snow and bailey's hot chocolate! yum.
from planetqueen :
Enjoy your break and have a wonderful Christmas xx
from oh-sweet-pea :
oooh, i want to play mah jong too! glad it is fun times!
from planetqueen :
Good luck with your statistics exam. I don't have long to go now. The baby is due the 27th but I am hoping she will make an earlier appearance. If not, then I am booked in for an induction on the 28th. Going to start eating curry this weekend coming in the hope that will work and if not acupuncture next week. Apparently acupuncture has around a 72% success rate. Castor oil is pretty good too but can dehydrate you so really should be a last resort! Best wishes x
from batten :
Oh lord, babe. I hope you're feeling better now. For what it's worth, most profs are very understanding when it comes to medical emergencies so concentrate on recuperating and then worry about the classwork. Big hug to you. -J
from oh-sweet-pea :
yikes, i haven't been checking dland in ages, so i'm sending you belated positive thoughts! so scary but i'm glad you had family with you and are doing okay.
from planetqueen :
Just to put your mind at rest. I had a huge ovarian cyst when I was actually pregnant with Bex - the size of a grapefruit and it had to stay in there during the whole of my pregnancy. I later had another ovarian cyst on my other ovary, this time a dermoid cyst, six years after having Bex. I have been pregnanht twice since and as you know I am 4 weeks from having the child I am now expecting. I am very happy you did go to ER and got it sorted in time and things in the future will be absolutely fine. Thinking of you. With lots of love x
from myra-lee :
Holy mackerel! What on earth? I hope you're OK. Hang in there. I hope, at least, you'll be with family on Thanksgiving so they can dote on you? You deserve some serious doting. xoxo.
from batten :
Oh no! Poor tigger... Will keep you close in thought and prayer so you get better quickly. Keep us posted, okay? Big hug to you. -Jenn
from planetqueen :
You poor thing. I hope very much you are okay x
from arajane :
oh no! i hope you are okay. xoxo,
from raven72d :
what will your doctorate be in?
from planetqueen :
That is such good news about your heart. I am well pleased.
from bathtubmary :
glad to hear all is well with your ticker. good luck on the midterm. xoxo, d
from planetqueen :
yum to the veggie food festival. On Saturday we made chana dal for lunch which was fantastic. Yesterday I tried this new recipe of chilli bean casserole with bulgar wheat. It was just gorgeous. I am having to experiment because I have gestational diabetes just recently diagnosed and need to keep my blood sugars down. Has that Lush opened near you yet? I very much hope they bring back Snow Fairy this christmas. I loved that last year! Glad you are doing well and its always lovely to read your updates. Very best wishes, Elizabeth x
from n-poledancer :
Aww thanks. I had a really nice one. And that aubergine is a perfect color for a winter coat.
from itzie :
Hey there! I still come by though I haven't written in almost a year. And in that time, I have gotten engaged and married and PLENTY has happened. I haven't been as inspired to write though as it has gotten so quiet here and I've started thinking about moving too... but I don't know where yet.
from planetqueen :
I am very well. I am almost 24 weeks pregnant and expecting my baby on Dec 27th (which is also my wedding anniversary!). I am going to have a girl and she is VERY lively at the moment, kicking me constantly. I cannot imagine teaching 80 students, I moan about having to teach 36!.
from planetqueen :
I am so pleased you had a great trip. Hope the rest of your summer has been brill too! Lots of love and best wishes.
from oh-sweet-pea :
thanks for your kind words, they mean a lot. and yes, i'm still reading and want to know all about your trip! do tell!
from planetqueen :
Have a great trip. I'm well excited for you.
from myra-lee :
Happy birthday, fancy lady!!! Hope your summer is super awesome. You deserve super awesome.
from cruel-irony :
Congratulations on completing your first year of school! I'm so excited for you. Miss ya.
from n-poledancer :
Wow! You got to post, what - 4 days later??? ;)
from bathtubmary :
heh, that's my favorite, too. i like to think it applies in all situations. xoox, d
from planetqueen :
I finally tried making the yorkshire puddings using the vegan pancake batter this weekend. They tasted great (but looked odd!). So, next time I think I need to make the batter a little thinner and put a touch more baking powder in. Bex says I should finish this by saying 'then they'd puff up proper and not look like biscuits'. So that's what I will do! Hope you have had a good Easter.
from n-poledancer :
Aww you are so nice. Im always lurking around and reading though. I most likely will start blogging again, either here or somewhere else. Im just trying to figure out what I want it to be this time around. I will definitely let you know when I do this.
from planetqueen :
omg I absolutely love lush. They do such good vegan products. Their snow fairy shower gel at christmas was good enough to eat. Not that I did.
from itzie :
No more teasing! Spill the beans!
from planetqueen :
When I've made yorkshire puddings I've put baking powder in them. Do your popovers have baking powder in? I have this recipe for vegan pancake batter that works brilliantly and I keep meaning to see if it makes yorkshire puddings too. I really must try that some time!
from planetqueen :
Oh my goodness. What are popovers? From the photo they look just like Yorkshire puddings.
from n-poledancer :
Ive been so busy lately but I have been meaning to check in and say thanks for your kind words and compliment. I really appreciate it - you are so sweet.
from planetqueen :
Tofu green curry sounds divine. Sorry you are ill. Hope you feel better soon x
from itzie :
Amen about d-land becoming a ghost town. I'm wondering if everyone went off and got new blogs somewhere. Not that I should talk what with posting about twice a year myself...
from n-poledancer :
Thanks so much! I hope you have a wonderful 2007 with a lot less reading and a lot more love and that I get to read all about it! xoxoxoxo Oh and ps... Congratulations on your 4.0!!! Awesome job!
from oh-sweet-pea :
phew! sounds like a lot of work! i don't think i could go back to university again....but who knows, maybe an m.a. is calling my name! and damn right, we want love life reports! this is a diary after all ;)
from bathtubmary :
heck yeah i want to know! good luck making it through the home stretch. xoxo, d
from myra-lee :
Oh man, I feel your pain with the grading of papers! Law school papers have super stringent formatting instructions, and half of my students just can't be bothered to follow them. I've actually started threatening them...like, "if any one of you uses Times New Roman, I swear to god you'll have hell to pay." I wanted to tack on "bitches!" but that probably would've crossed a line with someone. But really, they kill me. Anyway, the end of the semester is near! You can do it! I'm in awe that you're able to write a 40-50 page paper. Good luck! xoxo.
from planetqueen :
Oh dear! I did that too. Not so much the small font thing, but the accidentally 'forgetting' to double space!
from n-poledancer :
I know! Its so empty in here that whenever I blog I can hear it echo. Its totally uninspiring. Where are all the people? Do only teenagers blog now?
from planetqueen :
I still love reading the diaries of the friends on here I have known for a long time now but I have no words to say about me. See! I can't even begin to put into words why I have no words and that is pretty much how it is for me now! Thank you for leaving me a note, I am really happy to hear from you. Take lots of care x
from myra-lee :
Hello, my dear! I'm not sure when you left the note...d-land didn't notify me I had a note. Anyway, I do indeed still have the same e-mail address. I hope you're having a wonderfully autumnful weekend.
from planetqueen :
I think I had my four year anniversay just before I stopped writing. Not that I meant to stop writing really, it just turned out that way given the circumstances of what happened and I can't really see me writing again. It all seems like another life now but I still love reading the buddies that do still update. I hope you enjoyed the veggie curry. I have just eaten spicy chick peas! Not that you needed to know that!
from planetqueen :
Help! It still won't work! x
from planetqueen :
my password won't work :(
from oh-sweet-pea :
yup, dland is so dead, but there are still a few people here that i love to read (you amoung them) that i stay too. i love that i know the back story to so many present entries on my friend's diaries. that's the staying power of dland for me.
from planetqueen :
Your photos are absolutely lovely. I loved looking at them. Your cooking looks well good! Made me feel very hungry!
from planetqueen :
thanks for the new password. Hope that everything is going well for you. Very best wishes, Elizabeth x
from oh-sweet-pea :
i actually did follow up & the person who interviewed me was on vacation, but he did email me saying they'd make a decision by the middle of this week. it's now friday, so i think another follow up is necessary! i'm thinking this company isn't very well organized!!
from myra-lee :
Wow, 62 students! I'm TA-ing a class of 18, and I feel super nervous addressing them. I just keep reminding myself that I'm five years older than them, and somehow that helps. Good luck to you! I'm sure you'll do great.
from oh-sweet-pea :
oops, seeing all these belated birthday wishes means that i didnt realize it was your bday too. happy birthday! thanks for your thoughts...i am doing fine and all my roadrash is starting to disappear. hooray!
from mrs-roboto :
ET - I lost my password - can you send it to me please?
from arajane :
oh my goodness, i'm getting super nostalgic reading your entry--i didn't even realize that today was our 10th anniversary from having graduated mt. holyoke! (i wanted to be there for the 10th, but i just couldn't justify it this year. perhaps i'll see you at the 15th?) to make it even more strange, my favorite band from my college days is playing a reunion show in seattle tonight, and i only just remembered the show, but it's too late to go. sigh... now i'll be lost in thought tonight, remembering m&c's, elfing, the beautiful green campus, the snow, trips into northampton... gosh, i loved college.
from mrs-roboto :
Gah, I am so behind. Congrats on getting accepted into the PHD program - that's awesome! Belated B-day Wishes too! Weren't you too damn cute. And lastly, moving stinks.
from myra-lee :
Happy birthday, young lady!!! And congrats on your amazing acceptances at two of the best schools on Earth! You're incredible! Hope your 32nd year is filled with goodness...something tells me it will be.
from bathtubmary :
happy belated birthday! oh my, how cute! xoxo, d
from arajane :
happy birthday!
from oh-sweet-pea :
yay!!! that is awesome news. you've worked so hard and deserve all the good that comes your way!
from bathtubmary :
you are awesome! i'm so happy for you, and i know you will kick ass. xoxo, d
from oh-sweet-pea :
thank you for the early birthday wishes!
from bathtubmary :
thank you thank you thank you for the resume advice! hoping i won't have to use it, but i do appreciate it. you are such a smarty. happy spring! xoxo, d
from myra-lee :
Oh, I'm so curious to know which school you're considering in Mr. Schwarzenegger's fine jurisdiction! If I may say so, it truly is an amazing state. But I'm biased. Glad to hear your computer is back...and for free!
from oh-sweet-pea :
i also think my g5 is a lemon(ish) machine. lately, the fans are getting really loud and other times it's all fine & dandy. next computer, i'm not buying a pretty all-in-one. towers only!
from oh-sweet-pea :
yay!!! congrats to you, miss awesomeness. exciting times ahead!
from myra-lee :
Wow! Congratulations on getting accepted to THREE different PhD programs! That's so incredible! You deserve a margarita for that (and to celebrate the end of Robotrip 2006). Actually, you deserve three margaritas!
from planetqueen :
Oh my god I am so sorry you have been so ill. I hope you are getting way better now. Just email me the password when you get time. take care and keep well. Lots of love x
from planetqueen :
My computer crashed and I had to restart it. I lost everything including your password. Please pretty please could you send it to me. [email protected]. thanks! lots of love x
from bathtubmary :
thanks for your encouragement. it really makes such a difference. i hope you're feeling better, sweets. talk to you soon. xoox, d
from reddirtgirl :
Thanks for the feedback! You're right, the weekend markets are a good idea. I had thought about that, but we're definitely not there yet. As you said, the next step is figuring out this whole "branding" thing (I hate that word, but what can you do).
from oh-sweet-pea :
a snow day sounds so nice, but i'm quite content to bike around and enjoy the sunshine. i hope you feel better soon tho it sure sounds comfy!
from bathtubmary :
tease! xo, d
from myra-lee :
Oh man, the egg-rotting girl on The Bachelor! I had no intention of watching the show, but somehow there I was watching egg-rotting tantrum doctor lady. The way she kept saying she was ready for the reproductive stage of life and whatnot. Anyway, happy 2006, lady!
from oh-sweet-pea :
oh i'm so glad that you recieved it, that it works and that you like it! phew.
from planetqueen :
Happy New Year x
from arajane :
oh no! i'm such a jerk. i only just now saw your request for the coconut cupcake recipe. so, it sounds like your event has passed, but if you want to make these in the future, the recipe is in a few places online and one of them is here: http://www.post-gazette.com/food/20001001cupcakes4c.asp. you can always search for the barefoot contessa coconut cupcake recipe if this one happens to go away. and it really *is* a good one. xoxo,
from oh-sweet-pea :
did you receive the cd?? and more importantly, did it work??
from oh-sweet-pea :
those pickles look amazing. i'm a pickle nut, so i'll have to try to seek those out at a jewish deli. as for matzoballs, i've only used the "just add an egg" packages...nothing from scratch.
from mrs-roboto :
OMG! Where are you considering moving? Here, I hope! Also the fritata was a goat cheese and salmon with dill fritata - do you still want the recipe?
from oh-sweet-pea :
that trick is so sneaky! who knew!! and congrats with your scores and your future path!!!
from myra-lee :
Big congrats on your fancypants scores! That's amazing. I really can't imagine having to take a math-related test at this stage in my life! I've forgotten everything. You are radical, Madame Tigre. So (in answer to your question), law school really isn't that HARD, it just requires a lot of tenacity. The sheer volume of information you're supposed to take in is pretty ridiculous. And it's a shock to find that everyone there is REALLY SMART. It's a little scary for someone who mostly coasted through undergrad. As for the freshman fifteen, I've started down that road, too! I can't wait until exams are over and I have time to run and play like a normal human again. And hopefully I'll break the habit of eating half a jar of peanut butter in one sitting. Anyway, congratulations again...can't wait to see if/how you decide to wield those scores of yours. Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving weekend. xoxo.
from cruel-irony :
Congratulations on the GRE scores! I wish you the best of luck in finding a new acupuncturist.
from mrs-roboto :
those are great scores! Congrats.
from bathtubmary :
thank you, sweet girl. i had meant to tell you that your 'impaired' note made me laugh and laugh. xoxo, d
from mrs-roboto :
Thanks for your kind words. I think my energy level is just Adult ADD. If I'm not doing ten things at once, I get confused.
from ray0flight :
***hugs***
from oh-sweet-pea :
go for coffee with the man! can't wait to hear more.
from cruel-irony :
The Flare... ugh. You speak so eloquently about the Fall; it sounds so warm and comfy. Anyway, I've been thinking about you and just wanted to drop a note.
from ray0flight :
Ugh. Sorry to hear about the flare - hopefully it will be a short one... ;)
from oh-sweet-pea :
oh it better be okay to feel stressed out and unsure where your life is heading after 30! i'm 35 and i still feel that way.
from oh-sweet-pea :
i've never been one to mind the gap. c is a few years younger than me and i have dated a boy 10 years younger (gulp!). i say, it's worth the risk. i never had thunderbolt feelings towards c, but look how things turned out. if you don't dig him as a boy maybe you'll dig him as a friend. good luck & keep us informed.
from planetqueen :
oh my god I love your comment on me! It's brill
from oh-sweet-pea :
mmm, pumpkin ale sounds so delicious! i've heard about it but never tried it. i hope some brewery around here gets one going! crafting and television is a perfect fall/winter activity.
from bathtubmary :
good thinking about the firewall - that's probably exactly what it is since he/she seems to be a daily reader with one entry at a time rather than chunks. and of course if i ever do lock, you will be one of the first to get the p.w. xoxox, d
from oh-sweet-pea :
thanks for your kind words about c's grandma. it helps!
from oh-sweet-pea :
thanks for the link to your triathalon pictures! awesome!! there's a "my first triathalon" near vancouver this weekend and all of this tri talk kinda makes me excited. who knows, maybe next year. but then again, i'm a horrible runner with bad feet. gah!
from oh-sweet-pea :
i want to see too! as for the lines becoming blurred when work comes home with you, i certainly know what you are talking about!
from mrs-roboto :
I wanna see! I wanna see! BTW - mine were awful!
from itzie :
That explains it! I thought that I had just forgotten what it was and I have been meaning to comb through my 2 -3 year old e-mail to find out what it was. I was too embarassed at having forgotten to ask for it again. Boy do I feel sheepish now.
from oh-sweet-pea :
thanks for your sweet words about our photos! believe it or not, the best beer of our trip was in utah! haha. and yes, the kitchen aid mixer is beyond fantastic! i'm sure you'll have many good things in your future ;)
from itzie :
I got married? ;) I know I don't post often, but I definitely didn't move to blogspot!
from oh-sweet-pea :
wow, i love reading about your triumph! yay!!
from myra-lee :
Oh, thank you for the encouragement, chiquitita!! And a big, huge congratulations to you for kicking ass at the triathlon. I am a disaster in choppy water, so I am super impressed that you not only navigated it but managed to achieve a good time, as well. You rule.
from cruel-irony :
Congrats on a job well done! That's an awesome undertaking and achievement. And, you had fun... you can't beat that!
from mrs-roboto :
Yay! I knew you'd do great. I'm dying to hear about the bike portion!
from arajane :
yay, congratulations! i know how great it feels to have accomplished what you did. you should feel free to revel in it for as long as you want!
from shadowdress :
best of luck, tiger!
from bathtubmary :
go emeraldtiger! can't wait to hear about it. xoxox, d
from mrs-roboto :
good luck! I know you'll do awesome!
from mrs-roboto :
gah - I totally need to look out for snakes now.
from cruel-irony :
Thanks for participating... I loved your answers! I especially appreciated your discussion about workaholism. I believe my fibro is my body's way of telling me that I'm doing too much. The more balance I get in my life, the fewer health problems I have. I really wish society would realize the importance of downtime and balance.
from arajane :
thank you so much for the sweet card and seeds! that was so unexpected and a wonderful surprise. you totally made my day. i can't wait to plant these at our new home. xoxo,
from cruel-irony :
Diaryland does have a strange draw doesn't it. I'm not able to update or read my favorites as often as I'd like to, but I feel a strong connection to Diaryland. It's funny what happens when you start a diary here.
from bathtubmary :
mmm, strawberry moon. thanks for the info. have a great weekend! xoxo, d
from mrs-roboto :
Oh an open water training clinic is the way to go. It will definitely help you. Fresh water feels very different from a pool and this will give you the opportunity to adjust accordingly. Are you using a wetsuit or no?
from oh-sweet-pea :
thanks for the nice words about the dress. i'm a bit stressed right now, but i guess that is to be expected. thanks for the travel tips, we're trying to figure that out too.
from mrs-roboto :
Oh I love photo entries - nice pool!
from bathtubmary :
loved your photoessay! i need to get my camera fixed soon so i can copy your idea. xox, d
from oh-sweet-pea :
we'll be going through utah during our honeymoon & i'm so curious about it all. slc sounds so strange!
from myra-lee :
Polygamy Porter! Ha!
from oh-sweet-pea :
i love cycling too! it's my main transportation and though i do ride on bike paths & city streets, i still have that feeling of fun! it's so joyous biking around town and knowing that your own kinetic power is making you travel around. yay biking!! (i am on the look out for a good used hybrid myself. i'm jealous.)
from arajane :
acupuncture can totally help for menstrual-related migraines, even if you're getting treatments when you're not having them! so yes, you should totally mention this to your acupuncturist. ok, now i guess i'm done with my acupuncture propagandizing for the day.
from mrs-roboto :
I am sure you made the right decision (re:PHD). It's not as if it will disappear as a possibility for the future. I also love love love that exercise with values. Also - Danskin will be no sweat for you so don't worry.
from shadowdress :
happy birthday! (sorry i am late but i am just catching up). your entry about reflecting on the past and looking toward the future is so positive and inspiring.
from oh-sweet-pea :
thanks for your imput on the shoes! i feel so lucky that they are mine as they feel like they should belong to a princess or something! eeee!
from oh-sweet-pea :
beautiful entry!
from arajane :
yay, happy birthday! and what a beautiful ipod.
from mrs-roboto :
hey! which trek did you get?
from oh-sweet-pea :
looks like this birthday is shaping up well! happy 31st!!
from bathtubmary :
happy (early) birthday to you! 31 sounds cool. have a great time. xoxo, d
from mrs-roboto :
HAPPY B-DAY! Have a great one.
from oh-sweet-pea :
thanks so much for the bday wishes!
from ray0flight :
Looks YUMMY
from oh-sweet-pea :
even i'm not immune to the strawberry shortcake pictures! i'm so hungry right now, that i'm considering a grapple.....interesting.
from red-wine :
David Sedaris is my gay lover. Seriously, I love him so much it's stupid. Lucky sister! We missed him in October too, but for no good reason.
from shadowdress :
whoo-hoo! wild vines!
from shadowdress :
aww! i love it! you are really capturing that 1st love butterfly feeling. oh how i miss being that excited about a kiss! my first love taught me how to drive stick, too, and i almost drove his car into a ravine because i couldn't get the clutch/brake thing right.
from mrs-roboto :
That was a really well written entry - great depth. You should let us glimpse your past more often.
from shadowdress :
yes! give us the glimpse of teenage self!
from mrs-roboto :
I know what you mean. My friends always tried to pawn the short guys off on me when I was single but they weren't my style. After all, at least one person in the household should be able to reach the plates on the top shelf of the cabinet without hauling a chair over.
from red-wine :
Ha! I am one up on you ... I *lived* on that blueberry iced tea last summer. Can't wait to set my tea jug on the porch again. Also stupendous for sun tea is Bigelow's Peach Green tea, though I can't seem to find it here.
from mrs-roboto :
re: sizing and bikes - tell me about it! I found that the 43" Bianchi Brava (2005) is a good fit. The cost $649.00 (spendy but not as spendy as it could be). As for the triathlon, you can totally get away with a second hand bike or even a cheap new one. You should see the jallopies some of the ladies were riding. I rode a mountain bike last year with slicks. Since it's a mere 12 miles, a high quality bike isn't a necessity. However if you think you'd like to pursue longer rides, it may be a good idea to buy a better bike. I rode roughly 50 bikes before settling on the brava. Specialty also make a nice womens bike (for small women esp).
from myra-lee :
Oh, I had a Huffy I adored, too! I think it was called "Desert Rose." And I also tried to keep up with the neighborhood's BMX boys. I did fine until I tried to ride it off a lunch table. That didn't work out so well. Anyway, I hear you: banana seats rule!
from mrs-roboto :
I know! Seattle closes out super fast but if you go to the Information sessions they hold, you can sign up there. They save a few places. I know you are going to do great in Denver!
from shadowdress :
hip, hip, hooray!
from mrs-roboto :
Thats awesome!!!
from bathtubmary :
yee-ha! congratulations on the win. i'm in awe of you. xoxo, d
from myra-lee :
Congratulations on winning the 4K! That's really incredible! I'm now going to drink a glass of wine in your honor. Salud!
from shadowdress :
that is a very encouraging quote. i've been trying to keep such thoughts in mind myself lately, since i've been looking at one door for a long time and i really can't tell if it will open. good luck with your run!
from mrs-roboto :
Oh working with high school students sounds interesting and challenging. I know you'll do great.
from ray0flight :
Mm I liked that movie too and like you all I wanted to do was go home and grab a glass of wine! :o)
from arajane :
so, the red carpet is simply vodka, sparkling orange-flavored water (i think i used talking rain brand), and a bulgarian sour cherry syrup i picked up at PFI--garnished with a cherry. however, you could totally make this with anything red and call it a red carpet, since i think the sour cherry syrup might be hard to find! yay, have fun!
from oh-sweet-pea :
ha! i put that m haddon book on hold at the library....and i am the 307th person waiting in line!!
from cruel-irony :
I love cultural festivals! I'm glad you enjoyed it and I hope you're feeling better. Flares are such a pain in the ass, so to speak.
from shadowdress :
oh my gosh--that lime must have been prettty big or your cat's head is very tiny. that is so cute. thanks for the kind words about the job stuff.
from oh-sweet-pea :
funny, because that has been a book i've avoided all my life. i just couldn't get behind the title...but this morning i sent an email to c to grab it for me from the library. we'll see if it holds the key!!
from mrs-roboto :
That Spinach Pie looks delicious! Okay, I'm super hungry now.
from myra-lee :
Thank you re: Cornell! I'm trying not to get too excited before anything is actually final...I should be more discreet like you and keep the cat in the bag until it's appropriate to let it out. Anyway, I'm definitely crossing my fingers for you about that good thing that is surely coming your way come March or April. 2005 is a good one, I can feel it.
from cruel-irony :
Against all the normal advice, I started taking echinacea daily several years ago. Since then, I don't pick up the majority of bugs that people bring to work and my recovery time, when I do get something, lasts a week at the most. Rather than six to eight weeks.
from bathtubmary :
hey, mango mandarin is my scent! for now anyway. i change a lot. i never cared for 'phantom' because i have an andrew lloyd weber aversion but my dad -who hates musicals- saw it in toronto with paul stanley from kiss (of all people) as the phantom and it's one of his favorite things in the world. he plays the cd all the time. i need to work on cultivating friends myself - good ideas. xoxo, d
from shadowdress :
i saw Phantom around the same age with Michael Crawford starring. i had somehow managed to be elected as president of the fine arts club at my high school and arranged for the club to go. it was the real highlight of the year for us choir/art geeks, let me tell you. i was a little skeptical that the movie could hold a candle to the actual play, but now i will see it. on the subject of mint juleps, i think they'd be delicious without the bourbon, but i guess that takes the fun out of it, eh?
from mrs-roboto :
mint juleps are not my cup of tea. They are far too sweet and not in a good margarita way, you know?
from mrs-roboto :
Congratulations! I am so glad we are both done with our personal statements. Let's go get a couple sake martinis after work to celebrate!
from red-wine :
Oh that is SO funny...those two holidays? Back to back? I think you're living in some alternate reality.
from shadowdress :
you totally hit the nail on the head. i am so tired of being in this sort of environment. the sad thing is that no one in management sees anything wrong with it. yeah-i gotta jump ship. that's so funny about the GB signing--i always type thing wrong in there, too, and i realize it right as i hit "submit" and then it drives me crazy!
from cruel-irony :
Happy New Year! I think I might be a highly sensitive person also. (I'm gonna check out that link.) I constantly feel like I experience sensory overload when I'm out and about. I have difficulty with the gocery store. An electronics store would probably push me pretty close to the edge if not over it. Thank goodness for my quiet, peaceful non-flashy home.
from mrs-roboto :
Gah - we have to do a group interview with other candidates when we get called. Isn't that awful? So how is your ap coming along? How are you holding up?
from shadowdress :
thanks for the good vibes. sorry about the tooth trauma. i'm glad that you felt good about coming back to work and that you are happy about your anniversary. it encourages me to know that some people actually like their jobs! someday, i will like my job again.
from bathtubmary :
have a wonderful holiday, sweets. xoxo, d
from mrs-roboto :
hey could you write mine too while you are at it?
from mrs-roboto :
I too love the new look. Le sigh. I am also trying to write something other than "Pick me! I rock. No, really, I rock hard! You have no idea how hard I rock. Seriously..... um is that enough for you guys or what?"
from bathtubmary :
i love the new look. it's adorable! i wish i had some secrets about how to get rid of writers' block. i suppose the best thing for me is to just start writing, anything, and that kicks me into gear. good luck. xo, d
from bathtubmary :
i have, over the years, come to regard xmas as a big corporate ickfest. but i dont' think i'll ever grow too cynical for charlie brown. gets me every time. thanks for all the love & encouragement, by the way. xoxo, d
from shadowdress :
i'm older than you and i have the charlie brown x-mas special on tape! we watch it every year on the night we decorate the tree.
from faux-pas :
howdy, just catching up on some journals, thought I'd say HI
from bathtubmary :
happy holiday, love. xoxo, d
from myra-lee :
Oh lady, have a wonderful time with your family...I hope your dad's pain subsides. I don't think there's anything more difficult than seeing someone you love in pain, and you're right: it's even worse when it's a parent. My dad has a debilitating muscle disease (and has had it since I was eight)...when I see him struggling to walk, my heart just twists inside out, it's so hard to see. Anyway, take care and have a beautiful holiday. xoxo.
from mrs-roboto :
Congrats I think.....you're going to pursue it, yes? Now the other decision, what could that be?
from mrs-roboto :
Whats the really important decision that you already made? Does it have to do with our deal? Or is that the future decision?
from bathtubmary :
thanks, m! my bday isn't until tomorrow, but my darling red is all eager to get the party started. you're ahead of the game ;-). good luck battling the uti. i think the cosmos were a great idea. xoxo, d
from faux-pas :
well I'm a Macster, so naturally I say "go mac", and yes, we mac users don't get all the viruses PCers het, simply because what hacker would want to spend all those hours writing a virus destined to destroy only 20% of the computing world?
from shadowdress :
ha! i also love to be a blanket burrito. i had to break myself of this habit in bed though--i would have so much of the covers rolled around me by the end of the night that there wouldn't be any left for my poor honey.
from shadowdress :
thanks for saying that--i don't feel confident that i expressed myself very well--there's so much more that i've thought and felt about it. but i had to give an entry about it a go so i could move on.
from mrs-roboto :
You know, all I want to do is sob and weep.
from bathtubmary :
can't accurately put my sox love into words. arrrgggh! we fucking won! that will have to do for now. by the way, i'm happy to take advantage of my good health and help out those who aren't as lucky when i can. get better soon, miss. xoxox, d
from mrs-roboto :
sending healing vibes at you. I'm off to meet with a program advisor at Seattle U. Remember your end of the bargain.
from myra-lee :
Oh lady, I hope the ligament heals with a quickness! How sucky (not lucky). Well, I'm with you...I've been dreaming of tonight's baseball and ANTM to push through the pain of my day.
from cruel-irony :
I hope nothing serious is wrong with your wrist and I hope it feels better soon. Ouch.
from faux-pas :
Is it the pisiform bone? If not, I hope it feels better soon! And about wardrobe malfunctions: ok, so this wasn't really a malfunction, just me running late for class one morning. I quickly tossed on yesterdays jeans, and flew out the door. Because I arrived at class late, I had to sit in the front row of the lecture hall, where the prof kindly pointed out to me, and everyone else, that I had a yesterday's underwear sticking out of my pant leg. In other words, I know you pain.
from myra-lee :
You are so right...one of the greatest joys of the Sox triumph was that cocky raised-eyebrow expression finally disappeared from Derek Jeter's face! I will have to send you this ridiculous photo of me posed out next to a Fenway sign and a boat named "Beantown Betty."
from shadowdress :
you are so sweet. thank you for your well wishing--we had a really great time and my cold did get better. i hope you got the shoes and have a good trip!
from mrs-roboto :
I'll go to grad school if you get your doctorate. Is it a deal?
from bathtubmary :
i can't remember if i ever talked about where i got my name. i have a mild fascination with religious iconography, especially the virgin statues people put on their front lawns, usually sheltered by half a bathtub. hence, bathtubmary. pretty dorky really, but it's me for better or for worse. xo, d
from faux-pas :
ugh. diaryland ate my entry too, so I'm not bothering again for tonight. but I wanted to say, congrats on being a famous anonymous blodder! and yes, do post your pesto recipe. I love pesto!
from faux-pas :
ya know, the nausea could also be caused by an inner ear viral thing. if the crystals in your inner ear get disrupted due to an infection, it can make you really quite nauseous. also, this cozy shack stuff really IS to die for. I think I'm O.D.ing right now. ;0)
from red-wine :
Okay, got it! Thanks!
from shadowdress :
yes! go for the sassy red shoes! sorry you're not feeling better yet. nausea is my absolute most dreaded sensation--i feel for you.
from arajane :
untrue! acupuncture can help with nausea regarless of etiology. i'm sure you can tell your acupuncturist about your concerns and he can do some very simple points to help relieve it. also, you should make sure you tell him all your symptoms so he can diagnose you correctly. the nausea may be a key things going on in your body, and can give him some clues as to how to see what's going on with you as a whole (since chinese medicine is holistic)... of course, i tell you this as an acupuncture student. i know it's sometimes difficult to divulge certain things as a patient. ;-) seriously, i do hope you feel better.
from mrs-roboto :
Go Kerry - we share the same favorite part of the debates. "Our enemies attacked us...." Bush really needs to get a fact checker or something.
from red-wine :
Hey lady! Any chance I could get your password? Any friend of BTs is a friend of mine!
from shadowdress :
i'm all for Yaya so far.
from cruel-irony :
I drink ginger ale when I'm nauseated. The ginger and the carbonation both help to alleviate nausea.
from shadowdress :
i know that this doesn't fit with you regular healthful ways, but a doctor once told me flat Coke is good for nausea (you stir it with a fork for a bit to release some of the carbonation). she said the syrup soothes the stomach. hopefully you already feel better and don't even need this advice!
from mrs-roboto :
I have to say I am loving pilates too. And it's helped alot with the weak hip. So far, I don't look like Madonna but maybe after a few more sessions?
from cruel-irony :
Ear infections are the worse! Well, it's a toss-up with the nasuea actually. I hope you feel better soon. I think people would really appreciate your perspective in the blogger article and I think you have a lot to contribute to the subject.
from shadowdress :
why oh why do people like to drag out meetings longer than they have to be? i swear our CEO company started his company for the sole purpose of having a captive audience while he rambles on and on. thanks for your kind note a while back, by the way.
from cruel-irony :
From May through November, I buy all my produce at the Farmer's Market. I love it!
from cruel-irony :
I'm sorry to hear about your accident. I was in one a few years ago and yeah... it didn't go too well with the fibro. I'm glad you're finding some relief though. I can't wait to get caught up with your diary. Thanks for dropping by - I really appreciate it.
from faux-pas :
the person below said exactly what I was going to say. You should get a mask, and make a point of letting the biohazardist see you wearing it.
from myra-lee :
We have a germ-spreading bioterrorist in our office too! Actually, she's my senior editor. She's shameless about coughing and spewing grossness. And she seems to catch every cold and flu that comes to town. It's terrible. And her idea of being "healthy" and nursing herself back to health is to drink cans and cans of Sunkist. I just want to yell, "That is soda, lady! It contains no nutrients!" Anyway, I'm sorry to hear you've got the plague spreader on the loose over there. It's too bad you can't wear a gas mask into the office. Maybe then she'd get the hint. Oh! I tried to take your quiz, but I somehow did not end up on the right page. Is it still up?
from mrs-roboto :
Actually, I totally was going to ask you to be my ski dancing partner!
from faux-pas :
ugh. I took your quiz and failed miserably. I'll study harder next time! ;0)
from faux-pas :
heh, that's ok. ;0)
from faux-pas :
Alas, if it only were my own choice... I have to be on this diet for life. No choice about it. :0(
from mrs-roboto :
Your times were great! I think you should absolutely do that tri with us. And it is so cool to know what someone looks like. I echo Myra Lee's sentiments. The woman who brings her kids into the office when they are sick should be shot. Not only is it rude to her coworkers, it seems as if her children are coming in second to her job and that is sad.
from myra-lee :
First of all, congrats on the run! And second of all, it was very cool to see a photo of you! It can be somewhat surreal corresponding with faceless people...I have been meaning to start a Fotolog, too! And third: That is truly terrible of your coworker to bring her virus-carrying child into your work. I can't believe no one (a boss-type person) has told her that's not acceptable. You should eat some garlic to boost your immunity! I attribute my ability to resist the illnesses that pass through our workplace to my love of garlic. But then, maybe garlic's power is actually just due to the fact that it makes you smell so bad, no one wants to come near you!
from faux-pas :
that's completely outrageous and you have every right to be appaulled by the woman who brings her sick kids to work. It's bad enough that she doesn't take the time off to care for her sick kids at home, tucked nicely into their own beds, but to subject everyone at work to their germs - ugh! Doesn't your compnay allow for parents to take sick days in lieu of their own children's illnesses? I'd be talking to the HR department about that one.
from faux-pas :
oh it's you! hehe. and I couldn't get your photo to load so I couldn't try and guess which is you. Poop. Congrats on running the race. I only run when trying to catch a bus. :heavybreathlesssigh:
from shadowdress :
hey, it was cool to see a photo of you! now there is a face to go with the voice.
from ray0flight :
Wow!! Great job!!
from shadowdress :
yes--i was neither going downhill nor did i encounter any obstacles so i'm certain it is the shoe size (or i'm just a huge clutz :). at first i was pretty disappointed considering i had spent half an hour jogging around the store being watched by "an expert" to get the perfect fit and then that happened. but you are right--i think i'm already much more used to them and they really are very comfortable. thanks for your words of encouragement about it and also about the neighbor thingy. and huge congrats to you for finishing your race!! it is inspirational.
from mrs-roboto :
You rock!!!! Thats so great!
from arajane :
yay, good luck in the race. and have fun! also, i second mrs. r, you should totally come out here next year and do danskin with us. seriously!
from mrs-roboto :
I know! Mostly, I am glad that I wasn't as whimpy as I thought. Next year, you need to come out and do Danskin with Arajane and I. I want a horchata now and I've never even had one.
from mrs-roboto :
I know! Can you believe in six and a half years he has never gone to Alki?!!! So odd but yes I agree, it's so unlike the rest of Seattle. I had some fantasies about moving there but then I remembered that I hate to drive and I'd have to drive everywhere if I moved to Alki.
from arajane :
three things: 1. i've been going to a five element acupuncturist for the past few weeks, and it's been very interesting. it could certiainly help you if you're feeling grumpy! maybe you could find someone in your area who practices it? 2. i'm a big horchata fan, and strawberry horchata is especially delicious, just make sure there are big chunks of strawberries floating in it. 3. i've been on the pill for god-knows-how-long and i started spotting late last year and have been since then. i suspect it has something to do with stress. also, a doctor told me it might just be my body's hormones changing and that i could need the hormone dosage adjusted in the pill to fix it. just a thought. xoxo,
from shadowdress :
oh wow--you are going through a lot--i can't imagine! i get grumpy for no reason at all--all of those things might turn me homicidal. thanks again for the recipe. i made it last weekend and it was tasty.
from mrs-roboto :
Thats so awesome that a smaller athlete won. I do envy the longer limbs of my fellow runner/biker friends. Yet, I like being small most of the time. People underestimate your abilities when your small and it's nice to see them proved wrong. Oh and I was shocked at how emotional I was when I completed that tri. I am looking into doing a long bike race in a few weeks. I wonder if it will have the same effect?
from mrs-roboto :
keeping fingers crossed and thinking good thoughts!
from shadowdress :
oh thank you so much! i think the address you have is still the one but here it is again, just in case: [email protected]
from bathtubmary :
i've never had a bad experience like you did, but i have severe anxiety about driving on the highway by myself, so much so that i go out of my way to avoid it. you'll be ok, you just need some time. hope you feel better soon. xoxo, d
from arajane :
hmmm... well, i always think that i'm alert while i'm in the midst of the ativan high, but later on i can't recall much of anything and i get really knocked out. so i'm not sure i would feel comfortable driving after taking it. however, i'm kind of a lightweight. i've taken halcion, though, which is totally a bad deal... i'd be unconscious at the wheel if i took that while driving! i'm sorry it's tough for you to get back out on that highway. fears can really suck when they're not logical... which they usually are!
from mrs-roboto :
Thank you! I actually did go to work today but I wore my medal. I hope your run goes well too.
from myra-lee :
Hello Fancy New Hair by Aveda Lady. Actually, "gray" is the correct American spelling, and "grey" is the Britisher spelling. I keep meaning to tell you that I ordered that John Mack Faragher book on the American West you mentioned. It sounds great. Thank you for the recommendation. Good luck training for your 4-Miler! I'm running a 5K next Saturday, and I'm definitely not prepared. I'm kind of dreading it, actually, but I've already signed up.
from shadowdress :
oooo..thai eggplant curry. would it be too much trouble to ask you for the recipe? glad to hear you are swooshy and shiny and all that. and i believe you can spell grey or gray and both are correct :)
from ray0flight :
ASSHOLES! Man I would be pissed too...
from planetqueen :
Ps my computer died for a long time so I've lost the password to read your diary. I would really appreciate you emailing it to me so I can catch up. Thanks! :)
from planetqueen :
Thank you so much for your note. Take lots of care. Very best wishes x
from mrs-roboto :
really? 95% of adults have EPV? How come we heard so much about it in the 80's and not a darn thing now? BTW, I am glad you are essentially okay.
from mrs-roboto :
Oh sweetie! I hope you're okay. I'll think good thoughts for you.
from arajane :
oh my gosh, that is so awful. i hope you're okay and that you're taking good care of yourself.
from shadowdress :
oh no!! i'm glad you are not worse off but sorry you are in pain. hope you feel better soon.
from ray0flight :
Oh my gosh. Girl. Feel better soon. ((giant hugs)) Thinking and praying for you.
from mrs-roboto :
I have read it - I won't spoil it but it is good. Have you ever gone to the Roosters site - http://www.sedarishardwoodfloors.com/?
from mrs-roboto :
it's actually been rather brutal here - hot! I have stuck to swimming this week. Running would be way too taxing.
from mrs-roboto :
Mhhhhhhm! Hefeweisen with lemon. My favorite beer.
from shadowdress :
oh thank you dearie!
from bathtubmary :
thank you, darlin'. that means a lot coming from you. xoxo, d
from shadowdress :
please post the recipe already! you're making me hungry!
from ray0flight :
send me some of that desert!
from shadowdress :
thanks for the b-day wish!
from ray0flight :
So the saying "Be Carful What You Wish For" came to mind!?
from mrs-roboto :
Hmmmmm.....I get the feeling Ark lives in a fantasy world all his own. hee hee.
from bathtubmary :
hmmm, here's a hint: the milky way is a ------. another word for bunny is ------. put those together (no hyphen) and there's your culprit. is it who you thought? xoxo, d
from shadowdress :
sorry to hear about your tests--hang in there!
from mrs-roboto :
I'm sorry about the protein levels but you are doing everything you can to improve the situation and thats awesome. I am sure the tests will read better next time around.
from ray0flight :
i know what you mean - my biggest flare (2 years ago when i had seizures) i was doing EVERYTHING i was supposed to. Taking all my meds, resting, etc... so i understand... *hugs*
from shadowdress :
ah come on!! Saltines compared to graham crackers?! That was a cruel thing for that teacher to put kids through! She (he?) was obviously a Rebublican!!
from johnnieutah :
i want to read your diary. let me in?
from mrs-roboto :
Chatty Cathy would have to go. Actually, the gym has a no cell phones in the exercise area rule. I am sure it won't stop spme people though.
from bathtubmary :
i hope we get to meet someday. you are just about the sweetest person i can think of. xoxo, d
from shadowdress :
thank you for your sweet note. and a happy belated b-day to you! i'll be 32 this year and as you saw from my entry--still a lightweight. the benefit however, it's much more cost-effective!
from bathtubmary :
very happy belated birthday! xoxo, d
from arajane :
yay, happy birthday! hope you have a wonderful, action-packed weekend. and about the scrabble thing: i would accept it only if it's in the official scrabble dictionary, as that is the scrabble bible.
from myra-lee :
Happy birthday!!! Have lots of fun! Whoo hoo.
from mrs-roboto :
Happy Birthday!!!!
from ray0flight :
Happy Birthday!!
from myra-lee :
That "biz" business would not fly in the Scrabble circles I've partaken in. Although, I'll admit, I'm usually the one trying to get away with the funny stuff. Speaking of Scrabble-related funny stuff: http://heybro.com/badscrabble/
from mrs-roboto :
Biz may in fact be a word but is it admirable to use it in scrabble? I don't think so. I'd have to say this is a poor way to win.
from myra-lee :
Ooh! That sucks that ANTM wasn't on in your part of the US of A. Congrats on the 5K and on winning a pedometer! I seriously want one of those, but I know I would get all obsessive Virgo over it and start pacing around my apartment trying to rack up the desired amount of steps.
from mrs-roboto :
Congrats on the walk! Lo Carbers need to get a clue. People, stop and think. Does it really seem likely that eating cheese and bacon for every meal is sensible?!!! NO!
from ray0flight :
Congrats on finishing the walk!! I am glad you did so well... actually I am reading someone else thats doing the same one in Calif. COol eh?
from mrs-roboto :
I think you know this is a pet peeve of mine as well. Did all these parents just decide parenting is too hard one day because I swear if I had behaved like that I would have one red behind.
from mrs-roboto :
I think you can totally rock the triathlon. I wish you were closer, we could do the danskin together. P.S. I am going to take your training advice and get Total Immersion. Also the greenlake advice because no, my gym doesn't have a pool and I still have yet to start on that part of my training.
from arajane :
you can do a triathlon this year! seriously, anyone can do a triathlon, it just depends on what your goals are. is there a danskin in your area? if so, sign up and do it! just have fun. seriously, if i can do it, then anyone can.
from mrs-roboto :
Sushi is the best gift of all! Congrats on such a great accomplishment.
from cruel-irony :
Hey Sweetie! Thanks for all the info and website recommendations. I did catch Primetime on Thursday, which was a big help. Thanks for all the notes and comments too. I always love hearing from you.
from arajane :
you are so sweet for the recommendations, these are awesome! we are, indeed, driving up the coast and we have planned stops in san luis obispo and monterey. yay! and hearst castle is totally on my list. i went there a few years ago and absolutely loved it. thanks for the well wishes! i'm trying not too think too hard about the flying part, so i'm hoping it goes pretty smoothly. and if not, i always have my lorazepam. xoxo,
from mrs-roboto :
I have no doubt that you are dead on with Damian. In fact, they are paving the way for that already by peppering conversations with mention of his exposure to lead (which he has not really been exposed to). In the long term they'll have that kid so drugged up he can't move and they won't have to parent.
from myra-lee :
Hi again! I think I was leaving the last note just as you were signing my guestbook. Ha. Thanks so much for the book recommendation. I've perused a lot of those types of books at the bookstore, but have yet to buy one (obviously). I really appreciate it! And I really need it, unfortunately. Have a lovely weekend!
from myra-lee :
Aren't all-expense-paid trips the best? My work is sending me to Chicago in June, and I can't wait. Since I'm rarely sent on work trips, it's super exciting for me, too. I hear you!
from bathtubmary :
right now i really, really want some cake. xo, d
from whereibegin :
Hi - I noticed you added me to your buddy list. Thank you! I'd love to read your site - would you be willing to assign me a user name and password?
from ray0flight :
Yikes. That bill is a little much.. I am hoping it's all a BIG mistake
from cruel-irony :
I hear on the exhaustion thing. All the overtime at my new workplace is definitely pushing things to the limit. And, I too am frantically trying to take care of myself in the small amount of spare time I have. But, I'm grateful for my job, that's for sure. And, I'm looking forward to my "new" car - my current one has certainly seen better days! I'm glad you got some accupuncture and pampering worked into your schedule. I'm sure you needed it.
from myra-lee :
Thank you for your nice notes! I should've clarified that I'm OK. I'm fine; I just made some embarrassing mistakes and feel like I need to step back and get some perspective on my life. I'm also thinking about making some big changes in my life. And - for some dumb reason - the changes I'm considering don't "go" with my diaryland self, if that makes sense. In truth, I'm thinking about going to law school and trying to make a bigger fresh start than I've made in years. I feel as though I haven't been living consciously enough. I'm sorry to leave this vague/cryptic note...I'll still be reading your posts, and I'll return soon. And thank you for the cyber hugs; as surreal as it is, it really does make me feel better.
from myra-lee :
I love Aveda's Rosemary Mint shampoo! My friend who did my hair (at an Aveda-only salon) just moved away so I have to find a new stylist. I'm nervous. Your cut sounds super cute.
from ray0flight :
Feel better soon ((hugs))
from myra-lee :
Thanks for your nice note about the surgery recovery. I didn't even think about what a nightmare it would be to get sick from anesthesia! Like it's not crappy enough to wake up groggy and numb and confused, but to be nauseated on top of that...yick! So, you're really ambidextrous? How cool. I never realized how uncoordinated I am with my left hand! I just assumed that because I've playing piano and cello for years, I would automatically be a star with my left hand. Not quite. Oh, and I have locked my keys out of my car SO many times! I always renew my AAA membership because I know I'll do it again. And also because I drive an old(ish) Saab, and - as it turns out - Saabs are crap cars.
from red-wine :
Hello to you too! Sorry it's taken me awhile...I don't even have any good excuses. Could I trouble you for a password?
from demoderby :
hullo lady. i've been meaning to ask for your password for ages because i lost it. would you mind sending it to: [email protected]? i don't think my demoderby mail is working yet. thanks. xo.
from bathtubmary :
oooh, i am sooo jealous. there's nothing like a good snowday, never mind two! enjoy. xo, d
from ray0flight :
oh THANKS for the tip it's all fixed up now. :) The link to Liz Phairs dad isn't working! I dunno it gave me a 404 link not found page. I am taking umm amitriptylne which is a muscle relaxer but can also be given for an antideppresant apparently (and do I ever feel so much better since I started it) so maybe it's from that? I will look into that so thank you for pointing it out :)
from cryondemand :
Lucky! Hailing from the desert, I've never ONCE experienced a snow day. I hope you enjoy yours. Oh, and thanks much for the birthday well wishes. It completely brightened my outlook. :)
from bathtubmary :
tomatoes make me break out in hives. yet i refuse to stop eating them... luckily they go away pretty quickly. xo, d
from cruel-irony :
Man, I hate those web-onics. Although I'm sure my parent's generation hated whatever we did as teens too. But, it's not just teens. Anyway, sounds like work is going well - I'm very happy for you!
from myra-lee :
I also considered the teaching path. I was a student teacher and a writing assistant for a couple of semesters. Then I realized I was doing the people a disservice. I'm not good at explaining things in a step-by-step way...
from mrs-roboto :
I toyed with teaching English too but I think my idealism of inspiring students is so far from reality that I'd be crushed.
from mrs-roboto :
oh you should totally run the triathlon! If all 5'2" of me can do it- you can do it!
from cruel-irony :
I hope your new job is going well, and I'm glad you've been blessed by the plant lady. As for the shoe issue... I go for comfortable. Trendy, but comfortable. Otherwise I get cranky. Well, and frankly, it's just not safe for me to wear heels. For me or for others.
from mrs-roboto :
What about the new job? How was your first day?
from myra-lee :
Ooh! I've been to that tea house in Boulder! One of my old roommates went to CU and I drove out there to visit her. It was early June, and we sat outside...it's one of those nights and those places that is so rich and vivid in my memory. Such a great place!
from ray0flight :
Ok umm it worked. It didn't work the first 5 times... finally the last time it did. I don't get it? Anyway. Good Luck tomorrow. Not that you will need it i am willing to bet the farm that you will be fine!
from ray0flight :
Did you change the password again? I can't get in!! *tear*
from itzie :
Hello! I think my guestbook is broken because it never told me that you posted in it (about the sweaters and scarves and all). Anyway, I don't know how to knit sweaters! I can only do tubes (hats) and flat things (scarves) and anything that requires either a tube or a rectangular flat thing. I want to learn how to do more stuff very badly - but I just haven't had the time yet. I hope that you're doing well!
from amishboy :
Thanks for the kind note! I actually spent the holidays in your neck of the woods (Staunton, VA, know it?) It was a cute little burg. Mary Baldwin College was there, so at least there were some hipster things happening. My sis actually lives in a town called Waynesboro (not so much with the hip) but I had fun anyways. Now look, I'm rambling in your notes. I will check out the Sedaris - thanks! Happy New Year!
from cruel-irony :
I'm so glad you enjoyed Christmas - it sounds like you had a lovely time. Best wishes in the New Year.
from arajane :
a black orchid is just a long island iced tea with chambord in it. i don't really like long island iced teas much, but the chambord makes it sooooooo delicious. but they make you drunk super fast!
from ray0flight :
Merry Christmas!
from bathtubmary :
have a wonderful holiday, miss. xoxoxo, d
from ray0flight :
Have a great trip hun!
from vivakate :
you are always so helpful, thank you so much. i appreciate it!
from arajane :
p.s. you should be able to find bamboo or wooden knitting needles at most knitting stores. i'm surprised you haven't been able to find them. now that school's out for winter break, i'm knitting like a fiend, too. i'm making mittens for my niece, some chenille washcloths as gifts for friends (in the shape of flowers!), and i'm thinking of making this incredible shawl for my mom. yay for knitting!
from arajane :
yay, i got your x-mas card in the mail today! thank you so much. also, i took many of your suggestions for our holiday party: i made an apple rum cake, i littered the apartment with pointsettias, and i made a fancy cranberry cocktail that was a smash. xoxo,
from cruel-irony :
Thanks for the positive vibes! I certainly need them.
from mrs-roboto :
Does it make me a horrible person if I say no presents for Damian? There's more to it than the fact that I dislike the kid. You see they never remember to even send so much as a card to Pete for his b-day and we spent about $100.00 on him last year and didn't even get a card in return. I am a horrible person aren't I?
from myra-lee :
Mmmm...hot chocolate with Bailey's is so heavenly! I haven't had that yet this year; now I'm craving it. I DEFINITELY agree with you about the kid who played Liam Neeson's son in "Love Actually"...so cute! I really liked the movie, too. I'm not ashamed to say I'd like to see it again. It was such a feel-good holiday movie.
from itzie :
Hey sweet pea! Thanks for the message! It's nice to know that someone cares if I write or not. The issue has mostly been that I've GOT to clean my room ENTIRELY and I have a full-time boyfriend... so other things have been priority lately - making Christmas gifts, looking for a new housemate etc. But I do plan on a comeback! I just hope that people will still read.
from cruel-irony :
Thank you. It makes a difference.
from cryondemand :
Congrats on the new job!!! What will you be doing?
from ray0flight :
i love the green jones soda
from ray0flight :
I am so happy for you! Congradulations. A job offer! Eek - I could only dream.. :o)
from arajane :
oh congratulations! i can't image a job offer going to a more deserving person. i'm sure you'll be smashing!
from cruel-irony :
Congratulations! I can't even imagine how excited you are!
from shadowdress :
howdy. you are pals with my friend, myra-lee. i am very curious about your diary--you seem swell in your profile. may i see? my e-mail is [email protected].
from ray0flight :
Good luck! you'll do great!
from cruel-irony :
My fingers and toes are crossed! Best wishes, and good luck.
from bathtubmary :
good luck, m. i've got everything crossed for you. xoxo, d
from vivakate :
loved "love actually". such a fun girly movie. my boyfriend in it is the little boy who plays liam neeson's son, and not in a weird "i like little children too much" way, but just in a "he's so adorable i wish he was my little brother" kind of way. see it, you'll love it!
from myra-lee :
Oh dear. Just realized I was mixing up the names Firth and Farrell. Um, I feel stupid.
from myra-lee :
I also have a crush on Colin. Did you read this? http://www.theonion.com/3944/news2.html
from myra-lee :
I've also been meaning to write a note and say that one my earliest friends has lupus. It was such a shock when she was diagnosed when we were in our early 20s. What I'm trying to say is that I really feel for you. I hope things continue to look up. That's great that you did a 5K. I've been looking into 5Ks in my area too...I better start training, since I felt like I was going to die running a few miles at a very slow pace the other day!
from myra-lee :
Did you live in MA for school? Every time I go to New England, I feel as though I belong there. Or - at the least - I start dreaming of going to grad school out there. Of course, I don't stay for longer than a week. So, I don't know if I could endure an entire winter. As much as I complain about Southern California, it can be a huge relief to come home to year-round 70 degree weather.
from ray0flight :
Hey - I hope you get everything sorted out.. I don't have any problem getting in at all. Lemme know if you decide to change your passwords please :0)
from cryondemand :
Sorry to hear you're down. Hang in there. And congrats on the 5K--I've done one, and to me that's a HUGE accomplishment. Go ET!
from ray0flight :
Oh congradulations on the walk - that is fantastic. I don't think that i would have the energy to do half of that now. I know how it feels to look back over the last 3 years or so and think "how did my life go from there to here" and wonder what it would be like if things have gone if i planned. You are a strong lady!! ;) *hugs*
from mrs-roboto :
I am sorry your not feeling well. I'm keeping you in my thoughts.
from cruel-irony :
Thanks for your note, and the kind words. My workplace doesn't shut down until the end of December so I've got some time. Job hunting. Whee! But, at least I CAN work. Actually, I have to take my meds in order to work but I have to work in order to afford my meds. Anyway, I'm off on another adventure, I suppose. Change is good, right? xoxo
from ray0flight :
Ugh it must be a lupusy kinda month. I don't know if my WBC have been so low before so I am kinda confused. Do you feel any different? I just feel so tired, and run down and like at any given moment my body is going to give out from underneath me.
from ray0flight :
Happy Anniversary! YAY!
from cruel-irony :
Happy One Year Anniversary!! Yay!
from rosarybeads :
10/24: I'm getting the number sequence on your pw incorrect...again. LOL Thanks for the gb message. I have to agree with you, fall is my favorite time of year in New England. Winter can kiss my butt in a big way, but fall is nice. It's always been my favorite season because I get to wear sweaters and scarves and my wool trench coats. I'm waiting for the new JCrew hooded one to come into the store on Tuesday (you know you are a mother when THIS is the excitement of your week... LOL). :) xoxo
from ray0flight :
*hugs*
from cryondemand :
Get better.
from vivakate :
just believe darlin', i know it can happen. i've been waiting for this since i was six years old...xoxoxoxo - GO SOX!
from bathtubmary :
wooooooooooo! ahem. yes, i am mighty stoked by last night's win. i know 'we' can do it again! xoxo, d
from cruel-irony :
I am sooo excited about JournalCon; way more excited than I thought I would be. Looking forward to that makes all the pain and stuff much more bearable.
from cryondemand :
So were you at the performance then? I would love to see the Trachtenburg family perform.
from amishboy :
I love your fotolog. You have a great eye.
from vivakate :
sweetie, i misplaced your email address. please resend when you have a sec...thank you for all your help. xo
from mrs-roboto :
Thank you!
from vivakate :
how do i go about locking my diary? i can't figure it out...email me as soon as you can (semi crisis) at [email protected] -- thank you!
from ray0flight :
hey does the heat on the tummy work?? i need to try something - my limbs are killin' me. Have a good weekend!
from mrs-roboto :
You are hardly a loser - things happen at different times for different reasons.
from cryondemand :
Nah, you're totally not a loser. (Or maybe I'm biased--I fall into that category too!)
from ray0flight :
I know how you feel. A wise woman once told me that it's not a race and when the time is right everything will fall into place. I look around and it seems like EVERYONE is engaged, married, having kids or all of the above. It doesnt' make you a loser at all.
from cruel-irony :
Well, it could mean you're a loser, but chances are it means you're making the right choices.
from cryondemand :
Yep, try speed dating. It's cool. And I'm a spring person too--no winter for me.
from mrs-roboto :
Um, I think the reason I have yet to see a gray hair has to do with all the dying but in the face of my panic attack I chose not to mention that. In an effort to relax, I have made an appointment for a massage and body scrub at Nordstroms. Wish me luck.
from itzie :
Good luck, sweet pea! I hope you get the job! I'm sure you'll figure out what to do - something will just feel right.
from cruel-irony :
Winter is my least favorite holiday for the same reason. I consider winter solstice the beginning of the return of the light. I LOVE spring!
from mrs-roboto :
Thanks for the compliments on the pictures. I like your diary's new look a bunch.
from cryondemand :
love the new layout! very nice.
from bathtubmary :
thank you for your very lovely note. i think you know the answer to your question: a resounding yes! i'm digging the new layout. and i loooove queer eye, especially ted. xoxo, d
from cruel-irony :
I love Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. I also love your new layout - it looks great!
from ray0flight :
pretty!
from ray0flight :
so far so good! i like the new layout. i like it alot
from arajane :
a pussy foot is pineapple, grapefruit, orange juice, and grenadine. there's a snazzy website called idrink.com where you can look up just about any drink. glad to hear you made it through the hurricane. whew!
from vivakate :
my fingers are crossed for you. stay safe. xo
from myra-lee :
Hello! Thank you for your nice note in my guestbook. I took a gander at your profile...last time I checked, I was an INTP. I'm really unhappy with that assessment, but I answered truthfully. I'm also a Virgo, so I claim the absolute WORST in both Myers Briggs world and astrological world. Anyway, if you have a moment to send the password to your diary my e-mail address is [email protected]
from cruel-irony :
Thanks for the kind words and thoughts. I'm doing pretty good although my face is killing me! It's healing up so that's good. On another note, I sure wish that hurricane would disapate!
from arajane :
i got the plums at uwajimaya. i've only seen them there, though i'm sure other asian markets would have them. not sure of their seasonality either.
from cryondemand :
Love your fotolog. You take some great pictures. Oh, and I want to hear more about the mysterious love in Seattle too.
from ray0flight :
i wish i had gotten to see them
from bathtubmary :
ozwald did my template. you can go to his site (ozwald.diaryland.com) and get links to others he has done. he works for free and is a pretty fabulous guy overall. xo, d
from arajane :
ume shu is japanese plum wine. i made it with green plums (ume), a lot of sugar, and even more vodka. when i was in japan i drank this every night before i went to bed. it's awesome. let's hope mine turns out just as delicious!
from ray0flight :
you should check out beautify - there are tons of free templates on there. if you need somewhere to host the images let me know cause you can link from my dland account since my gold memebership is sitting there unused! hope everythings well with you..thanks for all the notes you leave... :0) luv joanne
from mrs-roboto :
Ah, love in Seattle. I do want more details.
from cruel-irony :
Oh, the ocean was WONDERFUL! It's so healing for me. I can't wait to go again.
from rosarybeads :
09/06: Oh Michelle. You should've spent last winter in Massachusetts. It didn't stop snowing until May. Coming from southern CA, I thought I was going to pull a "Shining" - there was SO much snow! And everyone kept saying, "Oh, it'll stop snowing in a couple weeks" and then another month would go by... then another... then it was MAY. MAY!!! There should be no snow in May. I'm dreading the season change this year. I'm not looking forward to more snow. LOL Thank you for the gb love! xoxo
from cryondemand :
Thanks for letting me into your diary. I know what you mean about the change of the seasons and sadness. The shorter daylight gets me down.
from arajane :
i've seen both those movies, and enjoyed them, though they're obviously entirely different. see finding nemo if you want something sure to be enjoyable and funny and cute. see dentists if you want to do some hardcore thinking and possible leave a little depressed. actually, c wasn't depressed at all by it, but it made me kind of glum. i still liked it, though. so take your pick!
from vivakate :
aww, you linked me in your diary! and i concur, le divorce sucked donkeys...
from cryondemand :
Yep, whitetrashpoet(at)yahoo.com. Thanks!
from cryondemand :
Hey! Thanks for listing me as a fave. I would love to get access to your diary so I can link to you as well.
from mrs-roboto :
hey! I think Franklin felt just awful, don't you? he looked so sad at the end. I can't really see things lasting with Wes though. He seems like such a party boy. I would have chosen Brian even though he seems a little boring. How about you?
from vivakate :
thanks for the compliment...you can email me at [email protected]...
from vivakate :
thanks for the link! if you want to send me the password, i'd love to link back...
from cruel-irony :
Thanks for the condolences and it's always good to know that people care. xoxo
from cruel-irony :
Thanks for the birthday wishes. I'm glad you enjoyed your vacation. It's been fun hearing about it. Hope all is well with you.
from arajane :
ok, here are your questions! and yes, i stole the first one from an episode of this american life--who said that wasn't allowed? 1. if you could either be invisible or fly, which super power would you choose and why? 2. which character from The Simpsons do you most identify with and why? 3. give me an explanation for why the sky is blue, without looking it up or doing any research or asking anyone. No cheating! 4. if you woke up at 3am and couldn't go back to sleep, what would you do (nothing's wrong, you just can't sleep)? 5. how many beauty products do you use in the morning and which is your favorite? and don't forgot to post the rules with your interview 1. sign the guestbook, saying you want to be interviewed. 2. i will respond; i'll ask you five questions. 3. you'll update your website with my five questions, and your five answers. 4. you'll include this explanation. 5. you'll ask five other people five questions when they want to be interviewed.
from arajane :
my own tricky questions, of course! are in game?
from rosarybeads :
Just popping in to say hi. "Hi!" :) xoxo
from mrs-roboto :
I am saying Franklin although my coworker thinks Wes - what about you?
from bathtubmary :
yes, the boys-next-door are definitely cute. total packages, the both of them. i am sooo looking forward to my visit with red. it's amazing that she came into my life and i can't imagine what life would be like without her. i didn't get into the diary gig to meet people, but i've met some amazing ones nonetheless. your vacation sounds amazing! keep having the best time and get home safely. xo, d
from ray0flight :
Is everything ok? You haven't updated in ages and I am a little concerned.
from ray0flight :
Don't feel bad. You haven't ruined anyones day and I bet your sister (does her best) to understand. DOn't stress out and make yourself sicker :0) Feel better hun
from rosarybeads :
Been there, have the medical bills to prove it. Don't worry - all hospitals accept payment plans so you don't have to pay out over 1k all at once. I hope you feel better soon. xoxo
from rosarybeads :
07/27: Good luck! I'm so jealous that you got to go paddle! (this is my "You ninny!" face, see? LOL) .... oh, and.... what's a dizzy lizzy? xoxo
from cruel-irony :
Good luck and best wishes! I've got my fingers, toes and eyes crossed for you. I'm glad you're enjoying your vacation.
from ray0flight :
Considering how out of it I am at the moment I have no idea - are you moving home or just visiting? Or neither? I am glad that you had a safe trip and everything is working out well so far.
from arajane :
actually, the bastyr clinic isn't expensive at all! that's because it's a teaching clinic--it's all staffed by students and therefore it's pretty cheap! also, your phone number was funky in my guestbook. email me at [email protected] to send your phone number if you'd like to get together while you're in seattle (i'd love to meet for drinks at the alibi room or something like that)!
from itzie :
Wait... how could I have missed this? You're coming to Seattle next week!? I must have missed the initial announcement somehow or else I'd have been harassing you to get together while you're here. E-mail me please!
from ray0flight :
I hope you are feeling better soon :o)
from rosarybeads :
07/16: Oh, thank you. You take care too. :) xoxo
from bathtubmary :
here's to a quick recovery! have a wonderful vacation. don't worry about the packing. for me, it's not a true vacation if i'm not running around in a tizzy until the last moment. i guess that's how i feel i've earned it. xoxox, d
from arajane :
are you really coming to seattle? if so, and you're not too shy about it, let me know and we can do something together. i would love to see you (again)!
from cruel-irony :
I have no idea what kind of plant it is, well, other than "magical". I remember that the package didn't identify it. I think I'm gonna do a little research and see if I can find out. It's fun!
from cruel-irony :
Thanks for the ideas, and yeah I would like the recipe for the white bean dip. That might be a little too "different" for my family, but I'd like to try it myself. Thanks. And, I hope you're feeling okay.
from rosarybeads :
07/08: How you doin'? :) Thank you for the gb message - I totally appreciate it. And, I lost your password again. Every time Greg does something to the pc, all the passwords get erased! LOL Email me: [email protected]. Thanks :) xoxo
from ray0flight :
Feel better! :)
from cruel-irony :
I hope you feel better soon... low blood pressure can really wipe you out! I'm glad you're in good spirits though. Best wishes.
from rosarybeads :
07/06: Yep - that was Ashland! I SO can't wait until we can go next year - that was awesome. xoxo
from cruel-irony :
Thanks for dropping by. And yeah, I'm loving my new place!
from itzie :
I like your photo! :) I can't wait to see more!
from rosarybeads :
07/02: Email me for the user/pass. :) xoxo
from arajane :
i heard recently that knitting needles were allowed again. though i'm not positive. you should call your airline and ask if it's okay to bring them on the plane, because knitting is the perfect way to kill time.
from mrs-roboto :
Good luck! I'll send good karma your way.
from ray0flight :
Crossing all crossables. Best of luck and like the person below me said taking any kind of steps (unless they are backwards) are definitly a good thing
from cruel-irony :
Best of luck with the whole employment thing. How exciting! It really can work out well. It did for me anyway. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. And, remember that hope and optimism are really powerful tools.
from ray0flight :
LOL your entry cracked me up. I couldn't agree more. Thanks for the note.. you have been in my thoughts too :)
from rosarybeads :
06/23: I have a thing against ultra low rise jeans as well. Bring on the low rise, but hold the ultra, mmkay? That entry almost made me pee myself I was laughing so hard. :) xoxo
from mrs-roboto :
I also have lots of poisonous chemicals within the reach of small hands so I forsee a trip to the hospital emergency room in my near future - the fun never stops.
from planetqueen :
Thanks for the signing re the ferrous sulphate. I am feeling a bit better thanks, its just a horrible feeling. I'm sure I'll be fine soon. Lots of love. xxx
from cruel-irony :
Hope you enjoy speed dating! I don't have a balcony or yard at my new place. However, I the new official gardener for the front porch/patio entrance. The Hotel Manager is thrilled about that! It'll just be potted flowers but that's good enough. Plus there's a large park across the street with lots of gardens. And, yeah... beat bait and slugs are a gross combination!
from bathtubmary :
i say go for it. if you go in with a good attitude and expect nothing but fun, that's what you'll get. good luck. xoxo, d
from arajane :
of course you should do it! that sounds like fun, with the potential for more.
from rosarybeads :
06/19: More like "reasonably affordable housing" for upperclassmen in MA. Good LORD I wanted to cry and run all the way back to CA when we were first apartment hunting. xoxo
from rosarybeads :
06/18: I have the same problem, although obviously not the same med's. My sight issues revolve around the tumor pressing on my optic nerve, in which case I'd lose my eyesight irrepairably. It's something that scares me, especially when I'm having one of my "off" days. Detoxing is no bed of roses. I'm on a somewhat forced detox from my three meds because of this pregnancy. If my body decides to revolt at any time, I have to go back on them. So far, we've made it through almost 31 weeks of pregnancy without having to worry about it. *crosses fingers* But, as soon as Alex is born, I'm back on meds. Joy. Rapture. ((hugs)) xoxo
from rosarybeads :
06/17: LOL I feel the same way about drying my hair. WHEN is it going to warm up over here? (Actually, today it's not raining, but yesterday was bleeech). xoxo
from itzie :
Hey there! Sorry I've been out of commission for so long! Anyway, before I had gotten the jury duty survey which is apparently not the same thing as being summoned. I was OFFICIALLY summoned for a six week trial that happens to go right over a wedding that I am going to.
from cruel-irony :
Oh, I HATE having to go get something to stand on. Consequently, I climb on furniture and cabinets a lot, which is, of course, kind of dangerous. And, yeah, I wish I could rent-a-husband long about now. Ugh.
from arajane :
this is crazy, it's like we're on the same wavelength all the time. i have a bottle of ricard at home, and was wondering about the color change, too. and since i'm a chem geek right now, i'm exceptionally pleased to know the chemistry behind it. thanks!
from ginja-puds :
hey there, thanks for signing today... and for the positive words. Also, I'd love to read you too, but alas... no password. Do you care to share it?
from arajane :
oh my god, you know about the dud avocado!? i read it a year or two ago and i thought it was unbelievable! i wish more people knew about it, or could find it even. i think the copy i have my boyfriend ordered from amazon.co.uk (it's still in print in the uk, i think). enjoy!
from rosarybeads :
06/10: I love those quotes! xoxo
from ray0flight :
Thanks for your sweet note. I felt like such an idiot writting that but it's nice to know you know how I feel :)
from cruel-irony :
Thanks for the *hugs*. I miss my birds already but at least I know they're already in a good home and I can check on them. Androgynous thinking? Interesting concept. Best of luck on whatever you decide to do with the running.
from mrs-roboto :
I am totally phone shy - like ridiculously so! I don't ever call anyone (even people I know really well) and when the phone rings I beg Pete not to answer it b/c if it's for me I might not want to speak to the person calling. I think I might have a phobia more than shyness.
from ray0flight :
Oh man .. seems like forever since I have signed this. I am the oppisite of phone shy. Perhaps thats my receptionist training coming thru - I will say one thing. I hate people listening in to my calls, regardless of who it's with and what its about
from rosarybeads :
06/05: I am SO like that... but I force myself to either take the call or make it. *shrugs* People annoy me most of the time. LOL xoxo
from arajane :
oh man, i'm totally phone shy and i always have been. i *hate* making phone calls. i *hate* answering my phone. i avoid making calls to the hairdresser the doctor or other appointments, and i generally freak out if i have to call for take out. i'm always stumbling over my words and saying stupid things on the phone that i never would have in person. ugh. so yeah, i do know what it's like to be phone shy.
from cruel-irony :
Thanks for the support! And the new place IS awesome. I hope you've been feeling well.
from ginja-puds :
Hi, I (faux-pas) moved here... to ginja-puds ;0)
from ray0flight :
Ohh I have a nightguard cause I have ground my teeth flat. Let me tell you - they make a huge difference.. get it done!
from mrs-roboto :
Really? Who mentioned that spa?
from bathtubmary :
thank you, ma'am. coming from you that means a lot. hope you're well. xo, d
from ray0flight :
The world can be - and is - a very scary place!
from arajane :
that is one of my big fears: getting attacked by someone in my apartment or in the basement laundry room. it's scary because it happens! my advice to you is to continue to be cautious, or at least aware. i think that as long as you're thinking and being smart you'll be okay. you can take back the night in your own way!
from itzie :
Yay for everything going well! I'm really happy to hear that.
from planetqueen :
I am so pleased that everything went well.
from rosarybeads :
05/19: I'm telling you, 29 is the best year. Ask Greg. He swears this is the best year ever. :) ((HUGS)) xoxo
from ray0flight :
Happy Belated Birthday!! I am glad to hear the suregery went well and your dad is in my thoughts and prayers.. ((hugs))
from arajane :
happy birthday! and i'm glad to hear everything went well.
from cruel-irony :
Glad to hear that things went well yesterday. And, Happy Birthday! I wish you all the best in your 29th year.
from bathtubmary :
happy, happy birthday. i hope your mind is at ease. you share a birthday with two very special people in my life, which is fitting. take care and enjoy. xo, d
from arajane :
i hope everything goes smoothly today (though i'm sure it will). i'm thinking about you!
from cruel-irony :
I hope all goes well today. You'll be in my thoughts.
from oh-sweet-pea :
thanks for the bday wishes! and yesterday there was no hot water at my place either! grrrrrrrr.
from cruel-irony :
Oh, I've done the beer-bait thing too. It works to some extent, is disgusting to clean up, and it gets tiresome after a while. Too many slugs and snails here to keep that up, but it does work. Good luck with your gardening.
from cruel-irony :
I've seen the McClintock Effect in many different settings over the years. I've no doubt it exists. I find it rather interesting.
from ray0flight :
Ohh I believe in that thing.. this week at my work is hell - all 4 woman are menstraling!
from rosarybeads :
05/08: I'm partial to the treatment teams at LLUMC, CA. Have you looked into them? Their doctor's are ranked among the best in the world. :) Just a suggestion. xoxo
from cruel-irony :
Thanks for such kind words. We have snails AND slugs! And, they do LOVE basil, petunias and marigolds along with SUNFLOWERS! I will hate them forever. (sigh)
from rosarybeads :
05/08: We're praying for a boy, hoping for a boy, thinking that it's a boy. LOL We STILL don't know, though. Either way, a healthy baby is all that matters, but having a son would just be icing on the cake. :) xoxo
from beatlesgyrl :
I am intrigued. You have added me to your favorites. I would love to read your diary, too.
from bathtubmary :
sending you hugs and a shoulder to cry on. it's all going to be ok. xoxo, d
from ray0flight :
((hugs))
from rosarybeads :
05/06: Crying is good. I'm going to make that my new mantra. Ohhhhmmmmm.... cryingisgood.... ohhhhmmmmm. LOL I had problems with a medication in March. I started calling the attending physician Dr. Anvil. :) xoxo
from cruel-irony :
Uh... forget that part about the vacation well wishes. My mistake.
from cruel-irony :
I hate the side effects from my various and sundry medications! But, I'm way ahead of the aging thing... you know, with the whole use of 2 weekly medication pill boxes just for my morning meds. I can't imagine how confusing and frustrating it must be for people who suffer from AIDS or cancer and have to take way more meds than I do. Anyway, sorry you're having a tough time and thanks for your vacation well wishes!
from mrs-roboto :
thank you for your well wishes. Keep me posted on your dad. If you have any questions I might be able to answer a few of them. Pete's dad had a heart valve for 19 years. When they got him his new heart this saturday he asked that they keep the valve for him because it had served him so well.
from arajane :
a red carpet is a drink i made up for the oscar party we had: vodka, sparkling orange-flavored water, and sour cherry syrup. it's delicious!
from rosarybeads :
05/05: LOL That is definately something I won't miss about CA!
from arajane :
i got 90%! the only one i didn't know was which school you considered applying to.
from itzie :
I got a 70%. Pretty good, huh? The ones I didn't get were #4,5, and 7.
from bathtubmary :
a few are guesses, some i know: 1-e; 2-a; 3-c; 4-e; 5-d; 6-d; 7-b; 8-c; 9-b; 10-e. how'd i do? xo, d
from arajane :
when do we get to see the answers?!
from rosarybeads :
04/29: You play piano too?! That's awesome. Okay, so I have a ton of suggestions, just from my own resume :)..... flute, clarinet, tenor saxaphone (that one is FUN!), cello or violin. The cool thing about learning a woodwind (or a brass, actually) is that it's quite easy to pass into other instruments. For instance, all the reed instruments are really easy to branch into once you get the hang of one. I learned clarinet before I went onto the saxaphone. Oboe... I strongly advise you NOT to go there. LOL xoxo
from planetqueen :
Hi, I just wanted to say something to you about your latest entry about your dad but I just don't know what to say. I just want you to know that people care very much. Lots of love. xxx
from ray0flight :
I just wanted to let you know that I am no longer updating Smushy but I have started a new diary! The OF is actually zero-F not OF :) and by the way - can i tell you again how glad i am you contacted that girl
from rosarybeads :
04/25: ((BIG HUGS))
from cruel-irony :
Thanks for reminding me about planting seeds. I do plant sunflower seeds every year but if the slugs and snails don't eat them, the squirrels and birds do. I plant them anyway. And since you reminded me, when I went digging around, I found all kinds of seeds I can plant! Best wishes for your dad's surgery. My dad had a quadruple bypass so I know how scary that can be. You'll be in my thoughts.
from cloud9girl :
ISC. It'll work out, I hope!
from arajane :
tina fabulous is definitely my favorite, too!
from smushy :
I could not agree with Mollie more. If you don't want your situation made public explain that to her and I am sure she will understand. You two are walking the same road. It would probably be a big help to HER to talk to you as well as vice versa. I say go for it. And Happy Easter :)
from rosarybeads :
04/19: Please, please write her back. Even if its just a couple of times. When I first got diagnosed with my pituitary tumor, I contacted an hold high school friend/boyfriend who had been diagnosed with the same problem just two years before. His insight on treatment options, the best physicians and treatment teams in CA, etc. was MOST valuable to me. That, and it was a very scary time in my life - I needed to hear from someone who had been going through it that I would be okay too. xoxo
from arajane :
i think you tell her, too. i'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised by how good it will feel to connect with her on this level. and i'm sure she'll be able to offer help and advice. and it may bring you closer as friends. all good things!
from cruel-irony :
Want my opinion? Definitely write her.
from smushy :
Thanks .. my computer screwed it up once again and I lost everything :0) it's my 25th birthday in 3 weeks!
from rosarybeads :
04/14: You sound like Greg when he turned 29. :) It WILL be a good year. xoxo
from smushy :
Hi... can you send me the password again. I lost it and its to long for me to rememeber.. its [email protected]
from rosarybeads :
04/13: Jewish weddings are FUN! (well, in my book almost any wedding is fun - with the exception of really cheesy weddings. I once went to a "Hawaiian shirt wedding". It SOUNDS like a cool idea, and it probably would have been, had they put a lot more thought into it, but it was sooo lame.) I'm a BIG wedding kind of woman. The dress, the cake, the limos, the overpriced photographer - bring it on! LOL Oh... and how weird that you stumbled on the ex's site. I hate that. xoxo
from cloud9girl :
Sept 29.
from cruel-irony :
Thanks.
from rosarybeads :
04/11: Greg and I went to see that movie a couple days ago - we liked it! LOL We thought the beginning credits and the ending (and some other minor things in the script) could have been done *better*, but overall, we enjoyed the film. I'd give it a B-. :) xoxo
from rosarybeads :
04/11: I'm a whole lotta T, and above-average A. Thankfully, Greg digs the A part. My T's are just WAY too big, so I'm getting a T-redux next year. I'm so excited! Okay, I'm getting off-topic here. Just so you know, you're absolutely adorable. So there! LOL xoxo
from mrs-roboto :
I have been meaning to tell you that Pete's dad had heart valve replacement surgery back in the 80's. Anyway, he still has that valve like 17 years later and his quality of life has been good till recently. He has been on the heart transplant list for a few months now. But the heart valve operation is actually very smooth and I do believe your dad will be just fine.
from bathtubmary :
scary yoga story! i hope you're feeling better. hatha is about my speed. thanks for your comments on the pictures. i met some amazing people out there and it was one of the most fun times of my life. xo, d
from rosarybeads :
04/10: Dude. Hatha yoga. That's what it's all about! My younger sister got me into it when she gave me a yoga tape during The Anna Pregnancy. It totally relaxed me into a pain-free birthing experience. I've done it a few times (when I have time to myself! HA!) since then, when I really need to relax and rejuvenate the muscles. I'm thinking of how to approach Greg into doing it with me - I think it would end up in both of us laughing at each other, but once we calmed down enough to concentrate on it, I think he'd enjoy it. xoxoxo
from arajane :
oh yes, isn't bikram awful? my friend swore up and down that i needed to go back at least ten times to feel the benefit, but i couldn't stand the thought of going through that hell again.
from mrs-roboto :
I tried Bikram a few months ago and I couldn't agree with you more. As if half the people in regular yoga don't smell like ass to begin with increase the heat and everybody stinks to high heaven. I'm not a big yoga fan to begin with but Bikram is definitely the worst.
from oh-sweet-pea :
hello! thank you for the nice words about my diary. i also would love to read yours...by the sounds of it (knitting, dark chocolate, sleeping!), i think i'd enjoy yours. could you send me a password? pretty please? [email protected]
from rosarybeads :
04/07: I used to bake for an espresso cafe near my house while I was living in CA. I sent off some baked goods to Greg, who is now my biggest fan. He used to joke that I should start a bakery called "The Sticky Kitty" and put it in a major college town. LOL Have you perused the Beautify site? There's a lot of imageless templates that you can mess around with at PooDesigns (and other designers as well). Oh, and I love Tori Amos. Greg took me to a TA concert last November for my birthday. It was amazing. xoxo
from amishboy :
Thanks for the words of encouragement! I can be an emo drama queen at times. C'est la vie.
from laura-jane :
Thank you for the fast reply! Looks like a wonderful diary, I shall be back soon.
from laura-jane :
Thank you for listing me as a favourite! By the sounds of your profile, your diary sounds as though it would be one I would enjoy; if it would be kosher with you, I would love to have your password. If that's alright, I'd love for it to be emailed to me at [email protected] Thanks! :)
from amishboy :
"Me Talk Pretty.." is the only Sedaris I have and I'm loving it! Have you read any others? I'm just to the stories about France, and they're really cracking me up because I can relate. Also, thanks for the note on Seattle. I'm REALLY wanting to see it in all it's summer glory.
from swtapplpie :
me too, me too!(jason's note below) if i'm worthy...thanks for the note babe :)
from jason75 :
I would like the password! thanks for kind note
from walktome :
My email address does work! It's [email protected]
from rosarybeads :
04/02: AHA! I'm in, and all caught up. Is it just me... or does the pc make you seriously dizzy if you sit in front of it for more than five minutes on a sick day? xoxo
from rosarybeads :
04/02: My pc erased your user/pass info. Could you please resend it? xoxo
from cruel-irony :
Aaahhh, cherry blossoms and cherry blossom festivals. I used to live in a town that had a Japanese Tea Garden which was beautiful. During this time of year, the cherry blossoms were so glorious and they'd have a festival. My sister and I would go every year. Good times. It's been awhile, but it's not that far from where I live now... maybe I should take a little trip. It is so beautiful.
from mrs-roboto :
Oh, if the Seattle thing materializes you must let me know. I live in Ballard so you can drive across the bridge and see me!
from arajane :
ahem... you know, *i* live in seattle.
from itzie :
Oh! I want to tell you all about the best route from Sea-town to Chicago, but I don't have time today! Remind me! I've done that trip before (sort of). Also, you have me to visit here! You promised!
from rosarybeads :
03/26: "She's got lemons, I've got lemons - maybe we can make some lemonade." was the first thing Greg ever wrote about me in his diary. So we made lemonade. LOL Hang in there. Generic statement, still pertains. xoxo
from bathtubmary :
that's the weirdest thing. maybe you're some kind of bionic woman and you don't know it! anyway, thank you for your super nice words about my goofball diary. i certainly will have a great time in vegas and i'll let you know all about it upon my return. xoxo, d
from planetqueen :
no-one was hurt! you know, its the second time I've nearly burnt the school down. Third time lucky eh?
from rosarybeads :
03/25: You look just like my mom when she was your age (well, she still kind of looks like that; you know how asian and Philipine Island women don't age? LOL). I think it would be hilarious if my mom had a southern lilt. xoxo
from walktome :
Hey, could you email me a password to your diary? Thanks/.
from jetbot :
thanks!
from rosarybeads :
03/22: I know that you can get someone fired if they're using the internet in a negative way at work, one that would negate a lawsuit against you - then subsequently your place of employment for providing internet access.... plus, your employer's side of things is that he/she didn't hire you to do anything but what is in your job description. LOL Pot donuts! Wouldn't that be funny. xoxo
from arajane :
i didn't bring *pot* donuts to work, silly! i brought in donuts from an excellent bakery in seattle called *top pot*. or rather, i should have capped it so it read Top Pot. i don't think i would ever want to bring in drugged up food to my team, nor could i ever get away with something like that. that would be crazy!
from rosarybeads :
03/21: I've been trying to email you but its come back twice as undeliverable! :( I wanted to say that you look just like my mom (you know how Asian/Pacific Islander women don't age? LOL)! My mom is Filipina, though. (Well, so am I.. where am I going with this?! LOL) And thank you for your emails. Hopefully, one of mine will be able to get through to you soon! xoxo
from cruel-irony :
Interesting. I'm left-handed but draw circles in a clockwise direction. Then again, I write like a righty also - I don't curve my wrist around toward myself like most lefties. Hmmm.
from amishboy :
Oops! It's [email protected] ...thanks!
from arajane :
i did bikram once. it was both good and bad. but i never went back. i would definitely check with a doctor or something about the effects of doing something so intensely detoxifying while also taking various medications. it really does clean you out--it made me feel very, very sick when i did it, like i was totally and completely wiped out. crazy stuff.
from amishboy :
A friend just told me to pick up David Sedaris - such a riot. I'm glad I did. And I see you're a fan as well. If I say "please" can I have the password to your diary? Please?
from jetbot :
can i read too? [email protected]
from rosarybeads :
03/18: I know exactly how you feel. I've actually felt like that a LOT lately. The only thing that gets me calm is having people around who love me more than anything and shower me with affection. Granted, it's my husband-type and our kids, but ... :) I hope you have people like that in your life, and I hope you feel unstressed asap. :) xoxo
from bathtubmary :
thank you. really. xoxo, d
from a-splinter :
You really shouldn't be on the computer during storms even when using a surge protector.
from arajane :
i majored in theater and minored in art history and i subscribe to scientific american. it rocks!
from arajane :
ooh, science geek! now that i'm taking science classes again i feel the need to share the info with anyone who will listen. the other day i went on and on to c about the sporophyte and gametophyte stages in the life cycle of bryophytes. it's all so fascinating!
from bathtubmary :
we watched a film about the tacoma narrows bridge in my h.s. physics class and for awhile in h.s., my friends called me 'tubby' after the dog they filmed on it. not because i was tubby or a dog, but for reasons i can't remember. i also had a friend we called weirdo. ah, high school. anyway, cool. i was an english major too, but it was english/writing. xo, d
from rosarybeads :
03/11: Our move was from southern CA to Narragansett,RI. They delivered a table with no legs and lost my area rug that I bought from Macy's a year earlier. Still haven't gotten those items back. LOL xoxo
from bathtubmary :
thank you. that really means a lot. xo, d
from arajane :
oh my god, arkansas! i forgot about her. i know your entry was very sad, given what you know now, but for me it was a reminder of all the good times in college. upper lake, the mandelles, bell desk... wow, now i'm craving M&Cs. xoxoxo, ara jane
from rosarybeads :
03/07: Thanks for listing me in your faves! I should've been more specific in my last entry - I'm giving up *writing* in Diaryland for Lent. I'm still lurking about and commenting in others diaries, but no new entries until Easter Monday. :) If you wouldn't mind sharing your password with me, I'd love to read you! [email protected] xoxo
from cruel-irony :
Thanks. My layout cheers me up too! I told Trance that my favorite flowers are sunflowers so she presented me with many graphics to "pick" from so I chose my favorites. I'm glad it brightens your day. I can't wait until Spring when I can bring some sunflowers into my home. I can't help but smile when I see them.
from a-splinter :
Hi Em. Thanks for the quote from Ani DiFranco. I haven't ever heard her music but it seems to be right up my alley. I'll have to check it out one of these days. Thanks. Take care.
from bathtubmary :
it's your diary, kitten. you should never feel bad about writing anything you feel. i can't imagine what you're going through, but if writing about it helps you deal with it you can't stop doing it for fear of turning off your readers. i, for one, am not going anywhere. xo, d
from smushy :
Hi M - I just wanted to let you know I know how you feel. I know what it's like to push away people; either to protect them or to protect yourself (I am not sure which) and I know what its like to not know what your body is doing and if it plans on stopping anytime soon. I can't give you any encouraging words becaue I too am in the same place as you.. I can say this -> I understand and you are not alone. That's gotta count for something ... :)
from mrs-roboto :
hi! I see you've just listed me as a favorite. I'd like to read you too so I can do the same but I understand if your diary is private.
from a-splinter :
Hi emerald. Sorry you're having trouble with your diary template. If you need any help in any way, don't hesitate to ask me. I'm not an expert at designs, but I do know a thing or two about HTML. Take care.
from itzie :
The Japanese Tea Garden is in the Arboretum - on the southeast side. The Arboretum being near the U. District on the other side of ship canal... by the drawbridge. Don't tell me you didn't visit the Arboretum (and Foster Island!). If you're out here this summer, be SURE to look me up (even if you weigh more than 120lbs! Yeesh... if I didn't visit people after I weighed more than 120 lbs, i wouldn't have seen anyone since I was 14!)
from smushy :
I am not taking meth. by IV however I am taking the maximum dosage by mouth that they will give here (which I believe is 25mg a week) I feel really crappy after if I don't take it with a gravol but trust me - it works wonders for me... not as well as it DID but better then it nothing! Well worth it.
from a-splinter :
Hi emerald. Thanks so much for the password you sent me today. I caught up on some of your diary and I was happy about that. I should have added you to my list a long time ago. Thanks so much.
from a-splinter :
Thank you so much for your kind words, Tiger-one. And you're welcome for sharing my story. I wrote about it mostly to get it out, but also in the hopes that it will educate somebody. I'm glad you found it informative. I've been meaning to ask -- is it possible if I could have a password to explore your diary?? You can e-mail me at [email protected] if you choose to allow me access. Thanks, once again.
from arajane :
i think you left a note for joanne in my guestbook.
from smushy :
wait i am dumb that H drug is Plaquenil and it didn't work for me either!
from smushy :
I have been take methotrexate for just over a year and when i first started taking it i was in love. If you take it at night as you go to bed with a gravol there are virtually zero side effects - in my case it was also very effective. As I am sure you know hydroxychloroquine is just a water pill and the damn things don't do a thing for me. I would defintly move up to meth. if it was recommended to me as I have had a great expirence with it (I am still taking it now just unfortunatly it seems to not work as well anymore - I don't know why!
from itzie :
Hey there. I added you to my "favorites" since you'd added me to yours, but I can't actually read your journal because you've never given me a password. Can I read along too? I'd really like to check yours out.
from smushy :
I can't remember if I left you a note the other day or not so if this is a duplicate. I am glad to hear you got blood results back and the results were ok. OK is better then bad and it sounds like you are on the mend. I am sorry to hear about your kidneys - I am sure in time they will be ok too.. either way.. if you wanna chat you know where to find me ~hugs~ Joanne
from bionicgurl :
thanks for the kind words adding me to your favs. can i have access to your diary? [email protected]
from bathtubmary :
thank you, that was very sweet. i meant to write awhile back that you MUST read 'even cowgirls....' that's my second fave tom robbins after 'jitterbug perfume.' the movie they made of 'cowgirls' was dreadful. always read the book! xoxoxo, d
from smushy :
Thanks for the note you left me in your diary.. I definitly agree.. we should chat sometime for real.. do uhave msn or aol or anything?
from arajane :
you are very sweet. thanks for the kind words, and yes, i do read your diary every day. or rather, every time you write.
from smushy :
Girl - I know where u are coming from. Did you steal my words or what?
from arajane :
i call it pescetarianism (only eating fish, no other meat). that's what i am.
from planetqueen :
I've been a veggie for 18 years and my daughter (who's 14) has been veggie since birth. I would never ever judge you in any way. If you ever want any help just let me know. When I weaned Rebecca I obviously had to be very careful to give her everything she needed especially as its hard to get the right amount of iron in ways other than meat. Anyway, it is possible to be totally nutritionally balanced, but I'm no expert. Best wishes xxx
from planetqueen :
It all seems to be light pink with black writing, if that helps. Hope it does. Take care.
from smushy :
Urgh. Can you please email me the password - I am a dumbass and accidently erased the email so I don't have it.. [email protected] Merci lots :)
from bathtubmary :
somehow i never got the message. could you send it to [email protected]? thanks. xo, d
from arajane :
lorazepam (brand name ativan) is great because it's not really a sedative. it's an anti-anxiety drug and it cuts off the brain/body connection, so you may still be thinking anxious thoughts, but your body doesn't respond. which is a very strange feeling. in the end, your brain kind of gives up and stops being anxious at all. it didn't knock me out, but it did allow me to relax enough to sleep, which was a first for me on an airplane in a long, long time. in short: i'm a big fan of lorazepam.
from asteroidbelt :
i meant to reply to yer note earlier. sorry about that. i do silk screen but i don't consider myself an artist. i kinda wish i was but i don't think i do it enough to warrent the name of artist. i live in vancouver, down the hall from fancy lady and jetbot. thanks.
from arajane :
you are so not alone. i'm horrifyingly scared of flying. it's really, really awful for me, and developed over time (i wasn't scared of flying when i was younger). when i flew to europe last summer i took lorazepam, which really helped, and i don't think i'll be able to fly again without it. you shouldn't worry, though, or be ashamed, there are tons of people just like us. it's irrational, sure, but that's what makes it a fear.
from rollerqueen :
can i please have the password? xo
from cloud9girl :
try [email protected]. Thanks!
from cruel-irony :
Yeah, the cold makes it considerably more difficult for me, but I persevere. Sunflowers are my favorite flowers because they remind me of the sun and always make me smile. I know you're having a hard time. I hope things get better soon.
from cruel-irony :
I tried leaving you a note yesterday but it looks like it didn't work. I'm doing good although Spring can't get here soon enough! Keep up with the interesting facts; it's great.
from smushy :
Thank you for the paragraph(s) today .. you're awesome!!
from bathtubmary :
you should do whatever makes you happy- i just hope that if you start writing in a new place or lock this one you will let me in on the code. hope you're well. xo,d
from hodpodge :
Hey ET - I got your super kind email and I thought I would check out your diary. Have fun with the wedding stuff! And don't worry about being "diary discovered" - you can always deny!
from cloud9girl :
I couldn't tell you. I don't know why you are so careful about not being found out. If it's that important, password it. But never give up updating. Never. Love ya!
from smushy :
I wrote you a paragraph in my entry today!
from arajane :
that's the book i've been reading! it's really helped me improve so far. i think i just need to keep swimming regularly and practice all the drills so i don't forget.
from planetqueen :
It doesn't matter how good the layout is - it's the content that matters. I like your change to purple though - it's nice. I hope you are okay and the pneumonia is getting better. Thank you for asking how I am - I'm not too good but I've given up caring. It's like I'm floating about it all. Take care.
from grlscout :
Hope you feel better kid! Take care of yourself, pnemonia is nothing to sneeze at (oh, such a bad dad joke, I know...)
from arajane :
oops, no, i take that back. they're danish. (sorry for all the notes...)
from arajane :
oh, and you can totally find their cd on amazon--it's still in print! (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000002P7Z/). the band is from sweden.
from arajane :
aqua is the band who sang the barbie song. i only know this because i used to date a guy with a 7-year old daughter and this is all she would listen to, along with the spice girls. oh, how i love the spice girls...
from planetqueen :
Hi! I am going to write back to you. I haven't forgotten you. I just read your profile - I'm ambidextrous too! (thank you for your kindness).
from grlscout :
Hey Tiger, Thanks for the note. Now that you've been to Vancouver and Montreal, you'll have to come to Calgary in July for the Calgary Stampede (yeeehaw!) I understand the falling in love/lust with someone's voice thing implicitly - my boyfriend is a DJ (le-sigh!) ;)
from cloud9girl :
I hear ya on that telemarketer business. My last name is Slovenian and I don't know a word of it, but the telemarketing community seems to think I do. I was also wondering how you're doing, lupus and prednisone wise. Let me know, I want to be sure my friend is doing ok! :o)
from arajane :
funny, i knew exactly who you were talking about as soon as i started reading your entry. i've been reading her diary for almost a year. i worry, too. she's very wonderful and has a very wonderful daughter who is also a little sad. i'd like to fly over there and take care of both of them, if i could.
from arajane :
three things: 1. you should definitely give triathlons a shot. if you already run and bike, picking up the 3rd sport is easy. most triathletes have a week sport, anyway. 2. i pre-ordered harry potter from amazon.co.uk, they have an "adult edition" with a cover that is more, well, adult. but if you do order from amazon.com, they should ensure you get the book the day it's released in stores so you don't have to wait. that's what they did when the last book came out (i work for amazon, so i say that with some confidence). 2. i'm going to an ashtanga yoga class this sunday. thanks for the recommendation, i'll let you know how it is!
from a-splinter :
Hey there. Thanks so much for adding me to your favourites. I really appreciate it.
from kittybukkake :
I just subscribed to Runners World! Do you think it's good? I can't decide. Too much weight loss, how to have solid abs stuff in the latest issue? Anyway, thanks for calling me spunky!
from kittybukkake :
Hey gal! Thanks for your nice note. I'm looking forward to reading your diary too. I liked your 2002 recap. Rock on, Kitty
from cloud9girl :
Hey. I've been off Prednisone since the start of November. I'm still on Coumadin for a blood clot and I'll be off of that by July. But right now, I do not have a condition. The doctors think i might be developing one, perhaps lupus, but nothing is concrete yet. So, no, no anti-malarials or other lupus stuff. I'm trying to shake the side effects of Prednisone but thats it. I'm really sorry about your flare, I can't imagine (yet anyway) what thats like. But you seem stong and determined, I think if I do eventually have lupus, you are going to be a real role model to me. Thanks!
from arajane :
you can use either my notes or the guestbook. i added the guestbook so people not on diaryland can leave me notes, but i still check both. now i have a question for you: what kind of yoga do you do? i want to start doing yoga, and i want something to make me stronger, leaner, and more flexible, but nothing as extreme as bikram (which i tried recently and nearly killed me).
from grlscout :
yoga is the best, I agree. Especially when you've just experienced telemarketer hell - crappy! ;)
from peasantwench :
Hey, thanks. It's always nice to now what people think, even if it does kinda seem invasive (I totally agree with you about Kurt, by the way). I'm from Calgary, but I was in Vancouver summer 01 for my annual flee Calgary trip.
from smushy :
Thanks so much for the note... its nice to know that there are people out there that care and can understand what I am going through... *hugs*
from arajane :
thank you for the note. don't worry, i'm not obsessed with figuring out who you are. it's actually kind of nice to know there's someone out here who i *may* know. i hope you take good care of yourself.
from bathtubmary :
thank you for your lovely note. i've been doing a little catch-up on your entries, and i really like your journal. i truly do want everyone to feel happy with who they are, no matter what. i'm a procrastinator, but i don't believe in postponing happiness. hang in there miss. xo, d
from cloud9girl :
Hello! Thanks for the note! I don't know if you've already found her or not, but "smushy" is also on Prednisone and has similar struggles. She's been a great help to me, if anything, just because she understands what I am going through. I don't think anyone can, unless they've done it themselves. I'm adding you to my buddy list- you seem like you've been there and are on your way back. That's the road I have laid out before me right now and I'm scared I won't be able to make it back to normalcy. So, good luck to you, and we'll manage this lousy Prednisone devil together!
from arajane :
oh wow. i had no idea that you might be someone i know. it is, indeed, a very small world. don't worry about feeling like you've invaded my private space. i've made no effort to conceal my identity (i wasn't really thinking when i gave my diary my own name), so it doesn't bother me that you know who i am. but one question: do you actually know me? or is it just that we went to the same school? my curiosity is overwhelming. either way, take care of yourself. you sound like you're doing wonderful things and are very self aware.
from arajane :
i went to mount holyoke college. did you go somewhere near there? i already have a bachelors degree, but i'm taking all the science and math prerequisites for acupuncture school that i didn't take when i was an undergrad. it's slow going, since i work full time, but i'll be done this spring, and then hopefully i'll already be accepted to school.
from arajane :
thank you very much for the note. i just read all your entries! where did you go to college? we seem quite a bit alike. acupuncture is definitely wonderful stuff. in fact, i like it so much i'm applying to an acupuncture school for next year! take care, --arajane
