from whiskeyblood :
Joanna Newsome is the new indie princess du jour. I'm sure her name will fade, but I can't stop listening. She primarily plays the harp. Just her and a harp. The music is extremely intricate and lovely. Her voice is just so freaking odd. Not quite out of key. Not quite cute. She sings about fairy tales and such and I just fucking love her. I guess it's been so long since I've heard something new that didn't sound like an inovative garbage heap of noise. Check her out. I'm seeing her at the Warhol next month and I'm excited as a bug in shit!
from whiskeyblood :
You know...I'm kinda sick of this OMG DON'T DOWNLOAD IT bullshit. Usually what that translates into is "We know this album sucks. We are using this as a ploy to get you to buy it so that we can capitolize on your need with in the first week or so of the albums release before you can spread the word that it sucks." And all I have to say is FUCK YOU LE TIGRE for putting out a HORRIBLE album. We'll see about SK. ::crossing fingers::
from whiskeyblood :
I always loved...and still kind of do love that "International Bright Young Thing" song. It's just so catchy. Like SARS. Or Crabs. I remember having penpal friendship books, and I would always list Jesus Jones as one of my favorite bands. What was wrong with me?
from soursaurus :
in the words of joey lawrence, "whoa."
from godzillavich :
lmao... thanksbitch that's the greatest sn i've seen in a while. And life is boring without cable.
from whiskeyblood :
Hello. I haven't really been the happiest or most responsive person lately. I'm trying to reach out and touch the ones I love once again. Thanks for not delisting me, love.
from whiskeyblood :
OMIGOD HI!!
from ladygoodman :

from soursaurus :
truth be, i'm not a big a fan as you.....but..i didn't like it. my girl..(a big fan)..she didn't like it either. but grace here..she thinks differently...says my friend "you should listen to the fucking album...it's totally poppy, but not as bad as the last ablum...it's got that dirty, gruff, old pj feel."
from soursaurus :
hey lady...what did you think of pj harveys' newest? or is it still unopened.?
from parlance :
Thanks for what?
from silverbiker :

from vintagegrrrl :
not to be a dick, but everyone i know who went to thursday and friday said thursday night wasn't as good. so don't give up on the new cd! i personally thought friday was A-MAZE-ING but that might have something to do with the fact that we were IN THE PIT THREE PEOPLE BACK FROM THE STAGE!!!!!

you're a corin girl too?? sheesh, you and the rest of the world. that's ok though; i can have carrie all to myself. anywho, tell me who your doctor is so i can marry him. or at least change doctors. man, shitty way to spend the holiday season, but i'm glad to hear you're all better. and sorry about the uncustomary delay; dialup is a whorey bitch with multiple std's.
from mugshot :
here is my new diree! -luv reganesque
from ladygoodman :
best doctor ever!
from missmarymack :
ah, carrie brownstien ::melt:: the last lezzie hope for sleater-kinney. rather sad. how'd you manage to get in friendly with the variety people?
from missmarymack :
hehehe, the fine young ladies, eh? any good? i've been the same way about books lately . . . my friends are sick of me. -- and i'm all over peaches.
from missmarymack :
ay, dios mio. i ran over to the mr lady website to find out when i might catch said fine ladies on the carson show, but unfortunatly it aired 2 days before i read your post. grrrrrr. maybe one of my friends caught it on tape; they're big late-night show addicts. oh, also; i see you like peaches. if you've heard her new album, is it any good? i wanna buy . . . laters! amanda.
from no-yes-maybe :
I really liked your diary!
from missmarymack :
my LORD, matrix was revolting, wasn't it? and thanks to my lovely job, i had to see that abomination about 10 times it's opening week (no joke, bloke). anyway, le tigre?? i'm tuning in. later!
from vintagegrrrl :
was MORRISSEY at the C&TF? he goes there, ya know...
from pmattie :
Hello again my little Shoe Monkeys! For those of you who are oldies but goldies and for those of you who are fresh off the press, I am doing my "Ode To Independent Films" again. I noticed that it was only a short year ago that I did it, and back by popular demand, here ya go: Tell me your top 3 favorite indie flicks at the present time." In a week, I'll post the results...Happy hunting!--Pmattie
from reganesque :
Holy shit so yeah Peaches concert was awesome, made my blood hurt, and she spat on me. where are you seeing her?
from whiskeyblood :
the new me
from vintagegrrrl :
we should hang out REAL SOON (for reals this time, not just say we should and then don't), i like to think that that would jazz up your life!!
from ladygoodman :
oh man. i bought that gossip album. it hasn't come in the mail yet. i guess it wont matter if it gets run over on the trip here.
from gagfactor :
I'm so fucking over guestbooks. THEY. JUST. DON'T. WORK. UGH!!!! Anyway, I tried to tell you that I do all kindsa bartering. It's how I survive...now if only I could barter for gas. That would be the TITS! YESH.
from vintagegrrrl :
hey 'bitch... actually i am not going to go, due to massive amounts of homework. when is quasi? i want to go!
from reganesque :

from vintagegrrrl :
deerhoof is playing tonight somewhere in la and tomorrow night in the LBC!!! i'm going tomorrow! get yo ass down to long beach and go with me!!!
from gagfactor :
AAAAAAAAAAAAAMEN! Life Of Pi makes me twitch everytime I fucking see it. When a friend of mine read it she exclaimed "Oh Todd! It's BRILLIANT!" I knew right then and there that it sucked. I'm gonna leave Living A Boy's Adventure Tale to A-ha. WORD!
from radiokarma :
heya there paula, please be my guest. feel free to read radiokarma you have my blessing. best regards, eric
from ladygoodman :
i love that fat caterpillar
from vintagegrrrl :

from slinkywink :
It's not an arcade!! It's a kiddie playland!

from equivocalady :
i am a friendster too!! who are you? my email is [email protected]
from vintagegrrrl :
for the record, a frock is a dress. :o)
from gagfactor :
I wish I was there to give you a hug, an ass slap, and a titty twister. None of which you'd be overly happy about I'm sure, but they'd sure as shit help you forget all the bad stuff. Let me be your aimless distraction, lovey. I have a penis, but I'm a girl at heart. Or so my brother tells me. = )
from gagfactor :
no worries honey pie. no worries at all. *smooch*
from gagfactor :
Not to sound like an ego-maniac, the company I work for carries the cd's you require. Just go check out http://www.dvdempire.com and click on the CD tab. I think you will be quite impressed with our selection. I've been able to find almost everything I've been craving here and I have even more eclectic tastes than Jesus. So yeah. You sure you don't wanna join the lesbo bowling league here in da 'burgh? We can use a fourth!
from beatlesgyrl :
I feel the same way about The Gossip vs. YYYs. I like them both, but the YYYs make me bob my head. And, like Martha would say, I think that's a good thing. Tell me about Tracy & the Plastics since we seem to have kindred tastes in music.
from vintagegrrrl :
i don't like missy either. i also don't care for the gossip (but don't tell ladygoodman!)
from domdisko :
i think richard blade is in san diego. i could be mistaken.
from gagfactor :
I saw Kristen Hirsh at a little club here in PGH. She was touring for Sunny Border BLue. My friend Jen and I were convinced her eyes were pinned open. SHe was all smacked out a weird. ANYWAY, if you moved to pgh you'd be popular at least with me. I would worship you and you could be a part of Lesbian Bowling Night which is me and two lesbians. There's more of them so...Lesbian Bowling Night. YAY.
from vintagegrrrl :
the non-blinking thing was pretty weird... i noticed it too.
from equivocalady :
any new rides at disneyland these days? should i bother coming down to anaheim ever again?
from vintagegrrrl :
heh. i have to be honest, i'm more familiar with the other projects tanya and kristin have done than with throwing muses itself, although i do like them too! i was a belly addict in my teen years. if you end up going on tuesday, keep an eye out for me and *come say hi*!
from vintagegrrrl :
hey, i really like your diary! ladygoodman was telling me you're going to TM @ the knitting factory... i'm going tuesday nite, when are you?
from minusmarie :
i think it's pretty good, i talked to some guys I met that work for fender gutairs and they were not stoked on the album, they said their last album was bad and this new one is so -so. i guess cause now they are on interscope they said they are getting mad hype. i like the album but, you can't beat them live. so i had to stand up for our miss O. grab your ripped eighties sweat shirt and a pair of heels and get ready to shimmy your sholders doll.
from beatlesgyrl :
I feel threatened by your cacti prowess. I cannot keep plants of any species alive.
from gagfactor :
What would the world be if it weren't for bad jokes, cheap whores, and sqishy bottles of liquor? IT WOULD BE HELL, that's what! Love ya, snookies! *passes half empty whiskey bottle* Take all you want, hon.
from minusmarie :
april 29th, we are at the record store. karen has invaded every single 'zine on the stands. they have a good article in NME.
from gay-n-out :
Its not a problem. I like linking people. I love the name by the way.
from minusmarie :
i wished you could have made the YYY's show with The Liars, it was fatal. anyway-karen O has nothin on ya.
from equivocalady :
yeah, posturing, and style mullets as far as the eye could see. and dudes with girl's haircuts. oh what a scene it was.
from gagfactor :
I totally had a wonderful weekend. If you have a chance and you're into gender politics and all that good stuff check out a movie called "By Hook or By Crook." It's fab. A brillant Vietnamese film "The Vertical Ray of the Sun" must also be seen! Later!
from gagfactor :
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!*HUG*
from equivocalady :
you got tickets to YYY. excellent bitch. go get a gamecube. why not? video games are good times. all your friends will want to come over. get a dancing game with the floor pad and watch them make asses of themselves. i will be green with jealous.
from gagfactor :
Here's the total bitch of it. 2 hours north is Lake Erie. It's gigantic and when you stand on the beach it looks and sounds and feels like you're at the ocean. Unfortunately while you're standing there you can't help but notice all of the dead fish that have washed ashore around your feet. That is a doomed relationship as well. *sigh* I should just become a priest.
from arajane :
yes, screaming html is no fun. my html whispers. but of course, that's just me. i do everything in lowercase, because i'm just lazy.
from arajane :
i disagree! i like my html in all lowercase. i think it looks neat and tidy. neat and tidy is what it's all about.
from gagfactor :
I'm totally jealous. I have my white trash love affair with the Ohio River to go home to and I'm thinking that it's time to call it quits. Here's a gift for ya: http://sr20.net/bunny.jpg
from gagfactor :
I'm sitting here wishing that I had a river to fall in love with. The irony of that is Pittsburgh is situated on three rivers..all of which are filled with nasty three eyed fish and bodies. I don't think any of these would be someone I want to have love me, but that would be fitting really...haveing some corpse filled toxic river obsessively stalking me. *sigh* Anyway, enjoy your DVD.
from beatlesgyrl :
Frivolity is good, if you can afford it. Is that an oxymoron?
from gagfactor :
Spirited Away is genius. I'm a psycho and already have the DVD a week early (cheers to the Empire for treating their employees so well!). Just wait until you see the subtitled version. It's so much more airy and beautiful...not as harsh. *sigh* thank you for the images. OH..and Bou nezumi...the little fat mouse is my absolute favorite character.
from gagfactor :
where's your sense of adventure? eh? this is coming from someone that works for an online sex store, so I guess I really shouldn't be pressurin' ya. You should sign your boss up for a gay porn mailer...That would be good fuckin' times!
from gagfactor :
Dude, they totally do. Just do a search for "sex terms" or "sex euphamisms" on google. I think it's called www.starma.com or something like that. Enjoy.
from gagfactor :
Think along the lines of the business end of the male anatomy. Kinda like AIDS Baster. Wow. I'm so Un-PC i'm even hurting myself...and I call myself a homo!
from equivocalady :
the farmers can be blamed for nearly everything.
from gagfactor :
Ah, the term "cock-block" is one that always brings laughter to my belly. It is such a wonderful combination. Could it be, in fact, the "Cellar Door" of the breeding generation? Hrmm. It's a toss up between that and "AIDS Grenade." *SMOOCH* Toddy
from beatlesgyrl :
The mystery is: every number you will come up with is a multiple of nine (9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, etc., if you do your math right). Every time you reload it, the symbols change. I'd like to meet the twisted fuck who came up with that game and play "Revolution 9" for him over and over and over and over until he spontaneously combusts.
from beatlesgyrl :
I wonder whatever became of the lonesome condom. Sigh.
from stare--girl :
EXACTLY
from stare--girl :
everyone should be so lucky to have a friend like your Dom.
from kb8 :
Hi-Will you take my survey?
from anticrew :
I've seen Red, White and Blue and I speak French but I'm not pretentious. I speak Canadian French so I don't think it really counts. Anyway, you should see "City of God"--it's a Brazillian foreign film and it was Amazing.
from equivocalady :
oh thank you! i could not, for the life of me, figure out what she was saying. the best i could do was "as a fuck song you suck". that was driving me crazy. i am no good at that game. you big weed stealer. you probably did some fierce pothead a favor. you have to be pretty stoned to leave your drugs out on a table.
from stare--girl :
SARS is that fab new disease that has been brought to North America from Asia. Everyone who has it is in quarentine or dead. It's pretty neat.
from stare--girl :
awww c'mon you know we all love the trash talking the best though.
from beatlesgyrl :
Score! You should come over so we can smoke a bowl. I don't have a pipe, but I can make a beer-can bong like you wouldn't believe.
from stare--girl :
I think you should march up to your boss and demand at least 0.5%. Nothing less will do. These are tough times were living in here girl.
from equivocalady :
did you go to the electroclash show with peaches and the chicks? twas awesome. i am also looking forward the yeah yeah yeahs.
from stare--girl :
wow your granny likes Bon Jovi. Thats powerful. I agree with your disdain for sold out shows. I haven't gotten into one in the past six months. Even when I try to get tickets on ebay I can hear the computer laughing at me.
from beatlesgyrl :
Screw work. I'd be out protesting if I didn't have this irrational fear of 5-by-7 jail cells. And police brutality. But that's just me.
from beatlesgyrl :
I really, really hate Ticketmaster. Let's just suffice it to say that I would chuckle lightheartedly if it ever filed for Chapter 11. Bastards.
from onepinksock :
i'd play depeche mode. in a heartbeat.
from jekylandhyde :
thats a damn shame bout cat power. i got her new album, yet to listen to it yet. need a good day though...
from gagfactor :
If having friends became easy, we'd have nothing to write about in our diaryland journals. DUH! Kisses and Fuckz, Toddy.
from gagfactor :
let's not even get into best friend karma. Mine stood me up for four fucking hours yesterday. I spent the weekend dodging a friend who just broke up with her b/f. I obviously got my ass beat down for that. Yo.
from ladygoodman :
yeah didn't liz phair have like a giant 12 pound baby boy a few years ago?
from jekylandhyde :
oh no. you never got to cat power? how come?
from beatlesgyrl :
I stumbled in, found myself nodding my head in unison to your thoughts. You're right. "Normalcy" is a hideous word that should be burned in effigy. Ah, if only words were tangible items.
from asteroidbelt :
awesome. thanks a lot.
from jekylandhyde :
yeah, i think that's why i loved tha album, more experimental. Specaillu Miami Nice :-) But guess it depends what music you're into, or at that perticular time.
from jekylandhyde :
that does suck. Chain them to the seats, make her turn them. yep. Did you get the 2nd elastica album? I muchly liked that. I still too listen to the debut :-) Thanks for the comment on my lush guitar, i thought if i was gonna get signed, i might as well have a great guitar!
from jekylandhyde :
yeah! go see cat power! I've seen her three times :-) and you like elastica? :-D
from arajane :
oh man, valencia is a kick-ass book.
from jayerocks :
amen...
from gagfactor :
mmmmmmmmm...sleater kinney....
from gagfactor :
your life tickles my brain on this early monday nightmare. *kisses and spanks* -gagfactor
from gagfactor :
I am totally torn between Blue and Red. I think with Blue it's the soundtrack and the fact that it was the first I saw (they had a marathon at the university theater). Red is so ironic and whimsicle and just down right gorgeous so it's tough. White is definitely my least favorite. I realise that it's the "comedy" where as Blue is the "drama" and Red is the "romance." It's just not as affective to me.
from gagfactor :
Loving the Three Colors trilogy is not a terrible thing. I have them on bootleg DVD's my friend bought for me in China. I saw them at a summer writers camp I went to at IUP when I was 16. 8 years later and i'm still completely enthralled.
from gagfactor :
Reading you is like reading a dear friend that I never knew I had. Thanks for the fun!
from arajane :
oh man, i agree. reading other people's dreams is so boring. but i have something to say about yours! i used to dream about my teeth falling out all the time. i think it means that you feel that you are losing some kind of power or authority. i once dreamt that my teeth fell out into a boy's mouth as i was kissing him. ugh. i hated that boy.
from bellhead :
great entry today...
from kittybukkake :
S-K @ The Music Box Feb. 7 + 8th! And I had a hard time thanking my father for his check too.
from cinerama :
Do I know you? Or your friends? I went to that Hives/Mooney Suzuki deal someone mentioned down there...and then, you have RICHARD DYER in your author section...I had to read my fair share of Dyer in film/grad school, and enjoyed it too! Stars, baby, stars! You top it off with liking ROUGE (although I prefer Bleu, I love Ms. Big Eyes Juliette Binoche) and Sleater-Kinney and by Jove, do I know you?!? Come visit me. (Also at: www.citizenrobot.com)
from maticus :
i think every station has it's own "star98" station or "mix96" that plays all the garbage tunes that office workers love sooo much. rock on.
from ladygoodman :
because of you, i checked the KRS site and found out, finally, that S-K are coming to my province. yeaaaahhhh. THANK YOU! xo
from tayce :
nice layout, and very cool username - thanksbitch
from ladygoodman :
well, i'm still gonna go. i'm just not particularly looking forward to his nakedness. ;) the wedding plans are going pretty well. most of the major things are booked. the worst part is making up the guest list. it's very difficult to do without creating a family scandal.
from ladygoodman :
well now i am fore-warned about har mar superstar.
from kittybukkake :
RE: Ladyfest, I thought about going, and def. would've if S-K or Le T. had been scheduled, but I decided in the end not to. Enjoyed your review - Thanks Thanksbitch!
from ladygoodman :
THANK YOU. worked like a charm. so grateful - i'm totally html inept.
from ladygoodman :
thanks = )
from ladygoodman :
oh new layout is so much better.
from domdisko :
drag me to ladyfest
from slinkywink :
omigod. Your mom is too funny!
from pmattie :
Starting tomorrow (10/10/02) I am going to compile a list of the fellow indieflicks memebers' favorite indie flicks. I am taking suggestions for best indie flick ever and also for anyone that listens to indie rock, which bands they think rock the casbah! Let me know what you think and I will put your suggestions on my diary. I will stop collecting suggestions in a week (10/17/02) and then on the 18th, I will make the lists. Happy hunting!!!
from domdisko :
our nights wont be few and far between sucka!, we got one on friday!
from kittybukkake :
Hey, thanks for your three nights of reviews from the S-K shows. I saw the first one at that wacky Highlands spot but haven't felt like I've known what to say about it other than I liked it. I wish I'd heard Get Up though. Loved the B-52's cover. Yer pal, Kitty
from ladygoodman :
you are so lucky.
from arajane :
i was just reading an entry of yours from back in april, the one where you mention little darlings. oh man! i *loved* that movie when i was a kid. i still tell people about it, and no one ever seems to know what i'm talking about. i'm so happy to see that someone else loved that movie the way i did.
from ladygoodman :
yeah i picked hot topic by le tigre, but i think your morrissey idea was way better.
from kittybukkake :
Oh, thank you! I only wish I'd gotten better photos--I'd send them to you. That whole experience sucked, except for S-K and Sonic Youth.
from kittybukkake :
I'd like to hear them do Erotic City. I bet Prince would dig it too. Thanks for the link to that. How did you find me?
from ladygoodman :
oh i voted for a real man, little babies, one more hour, stay where you are and lora's song. i dont care if lora isnt in the band anymore!
from ladygoodman :
the lyrics to combat rock are so good that i can ignore how damn snotty she sounds on that one. i'm pretty much used to it now though. i am loving the first three songs the most.
from ladygoodman :
i find it so weird that on this album, their sixth one, she has decided to sing this way. what took so long to bring out the snottiness?! i wonder about that. and no, i didn't get electralane. dammit. but i did get tami heart, team dresch, and the butchies. and possibly something else that i'm forgetting.
from ladygoodman :
my CD is still nowhere in sight. i live in canada. it will take forever to get here, and when it does, it wont come to my house - i'll have to go to a weird random post office in a little variety store to pick it up.
from xnotlikeyoux :
i like your username it makes me say 'hey i like her username'
from ladygoodman :
I do.
from banana3159 :
I spent all evening yesterday listening to "Call The Doctor". That's definitel one of my top five favorite records of all time.
from ladygoodman :
i was very weirded out when corin suddenly spewed out a baby with some guy. i hadn't even heard she was pregnant or anything and i thought she was gay. oh well.
from ladygoodman :
...of how you took a child, and you made him old. ;)
from lifeinpink :
geek love: does the book not redefine odd? xo
from ladygoodman :
that would be my favorite smiths song.
from gallinula :
any chance you want to sell your Errata disc, then?
from ugotsoul :
love your entries... what fun to read... :)
from ladygoodman :
oh i didn't dance either. my dancing is disasterous so....i don't do it often. ;)
from ladygoodman :
i agree, gossip shows are entirely too short. despite not being drunk, i still couldnt refrain from telling beth about 209384 times how much i like what she does. so embarassing.
from orangehippo :
Hey Paula! Where are working on the beach!? When is your zine coming out!? I've got a dollar...
from puddlemonkey :
I am going to see the Hives next week and I am super excited about Mooney Suziki opening. Weeeeee.
from bexx :
Hey, read your last entry, I was think ing of going to The Hives, do you really think that they will make it big? They are coming through in a few weeks to my town. How were they? =Bexx
from sweet-avenue :
i'm seeing the gossip on thursday! yay! and i dig your diary, too, so there.
from arajane :
that's okay--i was flattered to be mentioned. i was going to change the comment anyway because i don't want to come across as freakish (heck, i don't know you at all!). but the sentiment was sincere, because you seem like a cool girl.
from arajane :
maybe i'm an obnoxious drunk, too? nevertheless, i've changed my profile, though that doesn't mean that i no longer think you're cool. la la la...
from to-the-dogs :
Hey, not only did you quote The Smiths but you said you like the short, frumpy type- I dig you already! I am off to catch up on everything I've missed thus far, have fun!
from ladygoodman :
yeah i love killrockstars stuff...have for a long time. now that i've started ordering stuff from the site, i'm afraid i will become addicted. most of the CD's (unless really popular like sleater-kinney) are hard to find around here and i have never seen KRS band shirts anywhere, so ordering from the site may become a frequent thing.
from ladygoodman :
i also think the vocals on the new gossip sound sort of hollow-y and too far away. i'm glad i'm not the only one.
from bexx :
Hey I read your entry today. Was reading random ones from the pixies ring. But anyways, a big yes to the GOSSIP! Have you seen them yet? I have tix for the 24th of May, so excited! B
from pmattie :
Hmmm...Mulholland Drive eh? I just got that on DVD and I have to admit that although it is not my favorite David Lynch...it has so many little aspects of all his other films that I love it anyway. And the DVD had special things to look for that I didn't notice the first time. If you spot anything interesting...let me know. And the cowboy?? I am still confused. :)
from pmattie :
Hey, thanks for joining the "indieflicks" diaryring. So what other kinds of movies do you like besides the ones on your list already?
from ihatepizza :
eyyyyyyyyy!!!!! (I'm trying to sound like the Fonz but isn't working.) Welcome to the kathleenluv ring.
from ihatepizza :
Well now you just have to join the kathleenluv, fibbers, and two ton boa ring!!!!
from ihatepizza :
Ahhh... you have joined the Gossip ring as well! *high five!*
from ihatepizza :
