"...and remembering weezer's blue album, the breeders' last splash, smashing pumpkins' siamese dream, rage against the machine's s/t, oasis' definitely maybe, and green day's dookie all as albums from 1992-1994, and almost all more than a decade ago...." I think about these albums too. Somehow, also: Stone Temple Pilots and Pisces Iscariot and, for some reason, Lenny Kravitz' second one. Also, a little later, Soul Coughing. That's right.
from idiomatic :
can i have your pw? [email protected] - thx!
from galaxyrabbit :
ah! i believe that picture is in the "Other Stuff" section which you can find up in the left hand corner of my main page! it's in the little photo album there! :D
from spitfire79 :
i'm learning chinese differently because i need to know somethings to get by -- very different from taking a class and learning it. i'd say learn the language whose culture you're more interested in. i think japanese would be fascinating. everything you say can sound like a martial arts movie if you use the right tone.
from spitfire79 :
pssst. hi. still reading from time to time. if you teach anywhere, teach in south america. the food is supposed to be great. i'm going to buy a guitar and teach myself -- is that a good way to start or should i order some "Guitars For Dummies" book from ebay? oh, also, the last few lines of that entry (the one with bukowski) sounded like the start of a song. maybe a really good one.
from amishboy :
just found you - did a spot of reading. damn, you rock.
from treepose :
oh thanks. if you think i am pretty. but i don't go to resort to fitness. i can be found walking the streets of southeast and the pearl district.
from likeaforest :
what do you wanna bet she lives some place like adams morgan?
from treepose :
eye-in. your 90210 box of valentines made me smile and wish for one with my name on it. the last line was my favorite.
from mangotuesday :
muffin. i was at built to spill too. and i wanted to go to deerhoof gossip decemberists et al. but was too lethargic. le sigh. how was it?
from spitfire79 :
i encounter the same dilemma: with 6 weeks of vacation and long weekends. i'd say san francisco. i really liked it there.
from spitfire79 :
interesting. i liked yr entry about your 20s. mine's been different and similar, so it's kind neat to read about somebody else's. i'm turning 24 in 2.5 months and that's the scariest thing in the world. i kind of like my 20s. and 23 is like, the coolest soudiing age. maybe i'll keep saying i'm 23. between graduation and working at an art museum and going to china, 23 has definitely been the most interesting so far.
from mangotuesday :
downtown accross from powells. 11th and couch. [and sorry in advance for the old lady sweaters and over zealous "customer care".]
from expatriot :
crispystar. what an oddandwonderful name.
from mangotuesday :
open open. and i'm working in about two hours. lovelovelove.
from paperfriend :
hi. i tried to move to portland but i couldn't find a place by the end of the month, and i didn't want to have to stay another month without a place to live, so i came back.
from treepose :
love + blushing.
from cdghost :
your words appeal to me
from mangotuesday :
the elliott smith boy. i see him on the bus sometimes. number fourteen. sigh.
from lostwithzeal :
I don't really have a favorite bar, but there are a few I prefer over others. Do you have AIM? you should IM me, or send me an email at [email protected]
from lostwithzeal :
I can really relate to this whole emotionally distanced/independent thing you're talking about. Intimacy has it's advantages, but all in all, it's very inconvenient. However, you are right that you should go out for drinks and meet people. It's the healthy thing to do. Hey I'm people! Wanna get a drink sometime? I'll tell you what I know about Portland.
from paperfriend :
hi crispystar. do you remember me? i used to be mrbelvedere. you live in portland? i am moving there at the beginning of july. i am looking for a place right now.
from thatplace :
I am glad that you got out of the fleas. I lived in a house with fleas once and just thinking about it now(it was about a year ago) makes me feel dirty and itchy and stressed out.
from lostwithzeal :
Your life is shitty? I was too busy enjoying your exploration of Portland, seeing this city all over again for the first time through your observations, to notice it was shitty. Seriously, if this was shitty, I would not read it. I especially enjoyed your take on stupid hippie jam bands.
from spitfire79 :
leaving in one hour! arriving friday. staying until wednesday night! camping this weekend even!
from spitfire79 :
i hope you're enjoying portland. now tell me, is their coffee extremely superior?
from mangotuesday :
to add to the list. mint and halocene have pretty drinks, the farm has pristine organic food, and division stumptown is best. [love and rose parades.]
from treepose :
just 9 hours to san francisco.
from lostwithzeal :
My favorite one is "Keep Portland Weird." Welcome to our beautiful city. I hope you like it.
from spitfire79 :
me and my friend were supposed to drive out to portland last summer. it never happened. i am so jealous.
from mangotuesday :
i think you will love portland. and i must admit, i've eaten a box or two of wheathins by myself too. enjoy the landscape shifts. xo.
from treepose :
portland is the best in the summer, and if you can stay on into september, that is my favorite month here. we just met someone in from out of town and were trying to give him some ideas of good places to frequent, here is a biased list: stumptown [a coffee shop], forest + mt. tabor park, the east side esplenade along the river, montage [a resturant], mint [a bar] the coast [not seaside or lincoln city], portland rock gym, exploring the neighborhoods of east side industrial and the pearl district. if you like boutiques: odessa, seaplane, tumbleweed, lit + n.a.c. [the quadrants: southeast, northeast, northwest, southwest. in that order].
from spitfire79 :
no...i do work in an office, but for an art center...part of my job is giving tours.
from spitfire79 :
you mentioned a stupid island...i may go to an island this summer...between all my other choices...did you go crazy? i've never lived on an island before. yes...i am looking for a way to eliminate some of my options.
from lostwithzeal :
You're going to love Portland, especially in the summer. For the past two weeks, everything has been tree blossoms and flowers and pollen, causing my face to fill with tears and snot, but I still can't stop smiling at it all because this place is so fucking beautiful.
from spitfire79 :
portland is a magical place where the moms all have dreds and sleater-kinney gives free concerts in the streets. always wanted to go out there. you have my envy!
from spitfire79 :
ass-related arthritis from office chairs. oh my god i feel your pain
from spitfire79 :
im almost positive julianna hatfield was that girl from the xmas episode of my so-called life. she rocks.
from likeaforest :
i still get all nostalgic for dc, too. funny how you can feel homesick for some place that was your home so briefly, huh?
from likeaforest :
ahh! i want the dvds but they're so expensive. it's really quite unfair. and yes, i don't think i'll be getting to see mary timony any time soon, either (she doesn't seem to ever tour california, from what i can tell). at least she's recording a new album soon. nice to hear from you again, by the way.
from spitfire79 :
a boy? that's really interesting-- kind fo funny...i'm not terribly 'girly,' but i wouldn't say i'm very masculine, either. i like urban outfitters too much. im just me. what was it that made you think i was a guy?
from spitfire79 :
hey there. Nini Camps. good energy, a little folk, a little cuban...she defies classification. ninicamps.com, she's got some mp3s on her site.
from likeaforest :
you weren't updating for eons and now your diary's locked?? tch. where's the love?
from ayudar :
oh my god, hadn't read your diary in so long. and you're still really cool. but i have so much to read still... i was like, "what? she's not stripping anymore?" lol. just thought i'd say hi again. PS favorite juliana CD? song? just curious.
from emogrrrl32 :
why do you have so many jobs?
from likeaforest :
any sort of recollection of the womb sounds disturbing enough as it is, but one that involves pasta could only lead to trouble! congrats on all the new jobs, by the way. is it weird that i've always had a secret desire of one day becoming a librarian? ooo.
from sad-doll :
Mmm. crispystar your name sounds yummy.
from likeaforest :
evan and juliana are like, soooo 1994! hee. but if you wanna hang out, we could do something sunday, maybe? i've been meaning to make an excursion to that vegan bakery in adams morgan...i'm o so curious.
from likeaforest :
evan amuses me, but not enough to go see him. the next show i had my eye on is the gossip...
from likeaforest :
!! thanks. i'd been keeping up with your journal, too, until the recent lockdown. did you see that it was just announced that blur's going to be playing at the 930 club next month? i don't know about you, but it's always been a goal of mine to throw my underpants at damon albarn. (sigh)
from arsenictango :
Heh. That is interesting, about the voice mail message... and Picture of Dorian Grey is one of my all-time favorites. Wheee.
from cautionxkat :
thank you so much for your kind note...it made my day!
from mrbelvedere :
i got the cd a few days ago, i am sorry i did not tell you right away, thank you very much for sending it to me, that was very nice of you. it is better than i expected. sometimes the words are pretty wierd. it reminds me a bit of the band pulp.
from likeaforest :
when i saw mary timony last summer in boston, she had the little film playing in the background as well. plus, for the finale she did a little cheerleader dance! so lovely. hmmm..i've been in dc since september; i'm not sure if that means i'm still new here or not. hanging out could be nice. im me sometime, if you want...xamybluex.
from arsenictango :
Hmm. There is a terribly obnoxious boy I know who thinks that the Guttermouth people are just the creme of the clever because of the one song about lemon water, which had a nice concept but poor delivery. Wheee? I can't imagine not having the internet, sometimes it's like my only connection with the outside world. In Huntsville (I fear no stalker) half the town works in the prison and that one cheerleader girl at school's father does executions, and it gets very, very old very, very fast. Hmm.... maybe when you record some stuff with your band you could email some of it to me. But until you can do that (if you even will, because you are all anonymousy), who do you sound like, if anyone? Just give me an idea. Also, what's your favorite food? I like to know about people, I think they're interesting, and I promise, I'm not a 40 year old man wearing jogging shorts and a sweat-stained wifebeater masquerading as a 16 year old chick from Texas. Yeah. Speaking of Texas, I hate it, never come here. Adios then.
from likeaforest :
yay! how nice, to get my very first note, and from a girl after my own heart. (i noticed the mention of mary timony in your profile.) did you see her when she was in arlington a couple months ago? i'll be all jealous if you say yes...
from likeadream :
sure, i'll play some music. was the beer meant to entice me? do i come off as that much of a drunk? well, since i cant email you through this and i'm not sure if you tried to email me before i set this up. [email protected]
from arsenictango :
Oh, dammit. Well. Pretend like all the
s aren't there.
from arsenictango :
Does HTML work in these things? I hope so, because I am going to try to respond to a bunch of past entries in this.
1.Blake Schwarzenbach is my spirit guide.
2. You were a stripper? How was that?
3. You are definitely not getting old. Okay, okay, well, you seem old to me, but I am 16.
4. My passions are... hmm. Art, reading, music, and sex, basically. I'm really temperamental. I'm sure it's very annoying.
5. So what is your band called? Got any Mp3s?
from arsenictango :
You like Jets to Brazil and Jawbreaker? And you write songs? Say no more. Nothing wrong with screwing girls, really, I imagine it would be fun, given that the girl I was screwing was actually Johnny Depp and had a penis. Ah, well. Also, on an ending note, I hate when apples turn brown and mushy, but most of all, I hate when milk goes bad. Ahhhh.
from mrbelvedere :
thank you for the nice note. my address? 117 n escalante dr elkridge utah 84651
from ayudar :
i still read you too, hehe. i wanna hear your band.
from likeadream :
then email me, i guess. i know it works... or atleast its worked before.
from likeadream :
so i emailed but i'm not sure it worked.
from unabomber :
hey hun...sorry i don't know how to do the whole notes thing really. so i'm replying here. i'm not good at keeping my weight steady at all. its ok for 2 weeks for but then temptation lures. still stuck at 132 after 14? something. :/
from ayudar :
whoa, i dig your diary. havent read much. but i'm gonna keep up with it now.
from mrbelvedere :
