Well, nothing's wrong with baseball, except that it has the power to mesmerize my girlfriend, who being from Chicago is now half-dead because the Cubs are out of the series.
from pitseleh00 :
Don't you know my whole diary is crafted just to irritate you- so, maybe you DON'T understand the genius of crash test dummies, well maybe we DON'T have to be friends anymore....
from quitter :
i feel your pain about sleeping on the couch. i love my family and all but with a mom that gets up at the crack of dawn and a brother that goes to sleep at 3, i am more than a little annoyed. as for boredom, you should really just move to toronto, there is so much awesome stuff going on...in the summer.
from doorholder :
I am the smiling person turning around in the teal t-shirt in the Yarn Lazer pic. Hahahaha. E. Smith voice: No, really, I am.
from fragiletree :
after taking a peek at your diary and pictures: how did you get to stay at karl blau's house? awesome!
from fragiletree :
hey i just thought i'd say hi since you are the only other person with karl blau listed under their favorite music! so.....hi!
from paperfriend :
if by christopher you mean me, i just know her from the what the heck-fest. we went swimming. christopher
from emogrrrl32 :
hi ryan. remember when we saw each other at the what-the-heck fest? i do. i also had a very very wonderful time. christopher
from quitter :
thanks man! you know i will check out amoeba, it's been a girlish dream for some time. i'm leaving right before all the good shows, but i'll be sure to go to at least one before i leave. p.s. at the microphones show i missed, my brother sang in phils backup choir and the song they sang is going to be put out as a new single...i hope the little wings show at your house was just as thrilling, i can't believe i missed both of them!
from indie-snob :
hello there! i recently added a review for a Yo La Tengo show I saw the other night and hoped you would be interested. i have a bunch of other album and concert reviews here, too, including Cat Power. check it out, thanks!
from quitter :
why does life mock me? of course ill still be in mexico and will miss seeing little wings for the first time, then three days later ill miss seeing the microphones for the first time in montreal. thats pretty rad though, i hope you all have a wonderful time. maybe he will play queen of valencia for me in absentia (my favourite song).
from quitter :
hot damn, you're right about the mathletes! great name though. i would love to check out santa barbara while i'm up in la...would you let me know if there are any cool shows around there the week before june 18th?
from mrbelvedere :
i saw little wings on saturday, and it was so freaking good!
from msamy :
It *is* Grass Valley. My brother and sis-in-law and niece moved out there almost two years ago from Santa Cruz and I haven't visited them there yet. I'm mostly going to spend quality time and meet my new neice Skylar. My brother and wife are big old ex-hippe school teachers and apparently GV is all about that. By that I mean 35 year old hippes with families and such. And old gold towns in the mountains and such. I'll totally tell you all about it. By the by...you write a lot about San Luis Obispo...are you from there? Do you know the Madonna Inn?
from mrbelvedere :
i am interested in a free little wings cd. love christopher
from msamy :
John Cleese, eh? At my work he is the posterchild for about a gazillion catalogues which sell training supplies for corporate trainings and whatnot. My favorite one has him looking all cheeky and english whilst tangled up in bits of yellow tape. I mean, I guess...what do you do after being responsible for such things as the Ministry of Funny Walks and whatnot? I guess the answer is live in California and avoid the ten gazillion gamers and drama club folk who must come up to you on the daily, spouting off lines from MP and the Holy Grail...ack!
from msamy :
gawsh. i feel sheepish responding now, as it took me long enough, but heck. i have *not* heard 'songs in the key of z', it sounds really good though...roky erikson was also in the 13th floor elevators, i believe, and wrote a lovely solo album after a spell in a mental institution. its really stark but rich and beautiful. given your other musical tastes, i think you'd really, really like him a lot. i think the name of the album is never say goodbye, but don't quote me on that. okay, ole! i'm off to see if i can pass some time at work looking into the existence of songs in the key of z. laters.
from dumbkitty :
Canters is good, all about he pickles...funny, I just missed you, and I haven't been there myself in years. Not that I have any idea what you even look like, of course. Happy New Year!
from msamy :
Too true...if the Shaggs don't play themselves, I don't know if someone could possibly find any other triple team of awesometastical sisters who could fit the bill. I am also very close to joining the Shaggs fan club, as they are really a shining beacon of all that is right with the world, but I have to scrounge up an extra 20 bucks...narp. Do you like Roky Erikson?
from sli1013 :
i find simpsons to be consistanly dissapointing these last few years (perhaps its because of their writers used to write for Suddenly Susan)...but i continue to watch - just in case it might get good again.
from mrbelvedere :
i like your diary very much. i am glad you don't delete all of the enties. i don't understand why you would be embarrassed about it. it is very good.
from msamy :
I *loved* George Washington. I sat down on my couch to watch it, and knitted furiously and loved every minute of it...Its like Gummo with a less twisted sense of morality/exploitation. I wonder how movies like that can be off my radar, I picked it up at the video store on a whim, it looked good, so I got it. Oh, and the Mountain Goats were every bit as poignant and amazing as I had hoped. I had been waiting so long to see them, and the only other things that would've have made it any more incredible would be if: a. my foot didn't hurt b. the space wasn't so difficult to see in and c. if he had played all my favorite songs, in a private concert for me and three or four other people, outside somewhere on a very nice early summer night. Really, he is one of the best songwriters in the history of forever. This is less like a note, more like a letter. I have to go!
from mrbelvedere :
your moving to oregon? i am moving to eugene. i am going to go to the university of oregon. but my main reason is top secret. why are you moving there? when are you moving there?
from mrbelvedere :
i saw punch drunk love tonight. i thought it was so so, so so, so good.
from mrbelvedere :
you don't seem like the sort of guy that would be so into baseball. on sunday my brother and i were at my moms house together and my brother was watching the world series. normally i would not have cared who won or lost, but because of reading your diary i was rooting for the angels. i am glad they won.
from mrbelvedere :
we have similar tastes in things.
from pitseleh00 :
How's summer? Mine is pretty good post-Gunn. I'm venturing back to SB, I've been trying my hand at being a gypsy, it's been nice floating around. Write me, we should go to a show soon.
from zenvagrant :
why do you say zero comments on every page when you've got a whole bunch of them? eh, smog-boy? why is that?
from sli1013 :
i just finished watching the commentary on the Tenebaum dvd--its so amazing. We saw the movie opening afternoon--took the time off of work, we went back a second and then a third time for the final theatre showing. So good, so good.
from pitseleh00 :
Hey there. Hope all the treacherous papers are going well. Email me and give me your phone #, we should go to a show sometime. Just think, in a few days this nonsense will be over. my email is [email protected]
from pitseleh00 :
Yup, you're who I thought, I saw you at the Press Room Fri. night, I was going to say hi but I felt like a creep, I'll say hi tomorrow lonely, then the mystery will be over.
from lonelybetter :
im an idiot, that last not was not meant to be sent to myself. sorry.
from lonelybetter :
hmmm, very interesting. you're right about the little wings shirt. now to figure out who you are.... hmmmm
from pitseleh00 :
So lonelybetter, we are in Gunn's Amer. Renaissance together, very interesting, I liked the Moby Dick idea you were talking about, otherwise I find his lectures often insufferable (not to mention I refuse to read, my subtle rebellion, ha). There are very few people in that class, so I'm wondering who you are.....actually I think I know, you were wearing the little wings shirt, that would make sense, aha.
from pitseleh00 :
Hey- let me know when any good shows come around, okay?
from pitseleh00 :
No, I didn't see Little Wings- where, when, wha....I've been kinda out of it lately, I just moved downtown. How ya doing?
from near-sighted :
1. yes, carnies are scary folk. 2. where did you hear about the departure of isobel?
from pitseleh00 :
Well, you've had Duffy and you've had Jessi James in one of your classes--yes I also had a creative writing class with him and yes I know exactly what you mean about that kid--so you're also an English major, most likely. I like your diary, I've been reading it, what about this town makes nice people wonder what is wrong with them? I'm pretty damn sure it isn't the aforementioned nice people who are fucked up but instead this town. Anyways I'm delirious. Drop me a "note".
from msamy :
yes, jonathan richman was indeed a sight to behold. i can't believe it has taken me this long to see him! with being from the area in and around boston, that is quite a feat indeed. the things we take for granted. baltimore is lovely and lonely and trying my patience and rewarding me in subtle ways all at the same time. i hope california is all sunshine and palm trees. till soon!
from pitseleh00 :
Hi, I'm assuming I to the V is the infamous I.V., I live in that craphole too, it's about time I got out of here. I like your music choices (and your diary of course)- stop by sometime.
from dumbkitty :
Typo noted and corrected. But really, Time, People, what's the difference aside from ratio of celebrity gossip to "news"? I read the whole article, it's linked from makeoutclub.com. Fascinating stuff. I'm glad I'm getting too old to be a "kid"; I still harbor a lot of rage as a result of the way riot grrrls got treated in the mainstream media a few years back.
from yellowpear :
Thank you Thank you for the dancing kitty card! I think I'll smile for a week straight because of it.
from dumbkitty :
Wow...you probably know by now that I am also a little weird about C. I didn't find your diary until just now. Maybe I know you? I feel like I should...
from msamy :
on the for true, down with public restrooms. i spent some time in france though, and when your there you learn to appreciate american public bathrooms believe you me. all your talk about needy, but cute, cats has got me in a bit of a dither. i'm moving soon. i want a cat, but my new landlord says no way. too bad i'm not moving into a roving estate in the country where i can have a million of the little kitties roaming about the overgrown backyard. now *there* is an idea. bye for now, monsieur better!
from msamy :
hey! i've been reading your diary entries too, so i most definitely think your stats counter is mixed up. i think your tirades are perfectly acceptable by the way. it is *your* journal after all, right? i'm thinking maybe *i* need more tirades in my journal. its been all too nice as of late. oh. here's something. at a diner the other night i saw a woman walk into a bathroom stall holding onto her full glass of cola. how grody is that? just thought i'd share a little.
from ophelia79 :
i've read all of your most recent tirades. maybe your counter is screwed up.
from yellowpear :
Hello. I've been reading your diary and I like it. (you). You can read mine, too, if you like. Not to sound bad or lame, but we sound a bit like we're the same person. (To me- I hope you don't violently disagree) -Katie
from itrymybest :
Oh my god, a Microphones fan (one of the best bands *ever*) added me to their favorite diaries list! You just made my day. (I also like everyone else on your favorite music list.) And thanks for thay comment. Wow. I can't wait to read your diary; but sadly a paper beckons in the meantime.
from ophelia79 :
yes, i get to see pedro/damie/t.w. walsh on the 14th and i am very excited!!! but i'll still be jealous of you as well :)
from msamy :
hi there... thank you for the nice! i have been reading your diary too now and i like it very much. i am also flabbergasted at the idea that a smog song is being used in a mgd commercial. i have been thinking about this phenomenon of good music in crappy commercials a lot lately. anyways...bye for now!
from ophelia79 :
thankyou. i was sexually harrassed in order to get those.
