That is why Dr. Bruce is a genius. He knows about bands that only exist in our DREAMS! Wow!
from tater-fay :
Happy Birthday (well, it's tomorrow, but dang it...whatever!) and also, Happy Freakin' WHATEVER:) I love that!
from tater-fay :
I'm so sorry about bunny!! It doesn't matter whether you specialize in old, injured, etc...an attachment is still an attachment!
from tater-fay :
Why don't you HOLD grief why I beat it up? I am sick of it hanging around!! Maybe we could stuff GRIEF and our lame ass Presidente into a hefty bag and ship them to the moon!!
from tater-fay :
Dear Screamin' Jay: It takes a real man to admit that he knits! I am impressed! I am hoping my knitting will improve..I still haven't really MADE anything...I just keep trying and I keep either casting on too tight or too loose. I switched from brown to a nice fuzzy rusty orange. Birthday presents for me? Aw! Thank you:) Can't wait to see!! Love, Arthur Lee, Syd Barrett, The Ramones and the rest of the "it sucks that we died" gang.
from tater-fay :
Dear Screamin' Jay: I am so glad that you and Bruce are out in the middle of the night helpin out bunnies with silly names like Sprinkleberry!! Oh, Larry (aka: Henry Winkler) is tearing out the dry wall (and the wood paneling underneath that) in our living room and he unearthed layer upon layer of cool-ass vintage wallpaper (circa 1920s) along with some hard to read little newspaper articles from 1922 here and there...So cool to see history come alive like that!! Love, Syd Barrett
from tater-fay :
I know I am so absorbed in my horrible tragedy, but I wanted to thank you guys (AGAIN!) for being such good friends. I could go for a letter or card and maybe some groovy music right about now if you guys have time to get that together...I also wanted to say that I am so sorry about Pooh...what a heartbreak..and I love that picture of Pooh in the teacup!! You were mentioning feeling cursed...I totally relate to that. I feel like my family has been cursed...even though I know I'm being irrational...I just don't know WHAT ELSE could possibly go wrong? I think we've both had ENOUGH sorrow in our lives...maybe God/The Universe could give us all a break now, huh?
from forty-plus :
Happy Anniversary (a day late)!
from forty-plus :
Love your attitude!
from haloaskew :
You've got LUPALEPSY? Damn! And here I thought coming down with a case of the Skittles was bad news! But seriously...good luck with THE CHANGE. Glad to hear I have so much more goodness to look forward to! But it sounds like your lupos and lepsies might just get their nuts knocked out. How awesome is that?! *Hugs to you and DA BUNNIES*
from haloaskew :
Did I tell you we have a wild BUNNY RABBIT who bounces around the courtyard and drives my dogs insane? He(?) is VERY CUTE (brown with white tail) and we spotted him yesterday on our walk. I'm just glad Buddy was looking the other way, because I GUARANTEE my arm would've been ripped off. Kisses to your bunny brood!
from forty-plus :
I am wondering how your dad is doing? I just read Dr. B's entry and wanted to say good luck with Morgan's appointment tomorrow, it sounds like you have a wonderfully healing touch.
from forty-plus :
Be you a lovely woman or his beautiful daughter, Dr. Bruce is probably receiving extra points of his own!
from forty-plus :
You and your dad are on my list today. Even your mom has made her way there. ~ Y
from forty-plus :
There is no shame and the Recovery Spa sounds like a wonderful idea.
from tater-fay :
We really DO have so much in common (or used to!) One day I'll meet you guys in person and it'll be so much fun! I wish Dr. Bruce would be sent to some professor's convention in Oregon (and then you would go with him to it) so that I could see you guys!!
from forty-plus :
Morgan has no idea how much love is coming her way! I am going to post about SG situation, but her parents are (seemingly) taking this seriously. Thank God.
from forty-plus :
The peeling of the onion.
from forty-plus :
The squirming leads to growth if you allow it. ♥
from forty-plus :
If Hubby is in the room when I get up, I try not to say anything because I am afraid he will get tired of my moanings. However, I have no such worries with my puppies! :)
from forty-plus :
The kitten and flower photos were so sweet. I REALLY need some sunshine and warmth!
from forty-plus :
Oh my word! What a scare. I hope all severe weather evaporates, dissolves, disappears!
from forty-plus :
You didn't miss it - it's today!
from forty-plus :
I got chills when I read about the possible Tarantula bite ... the sorta good kind! My friend kept them and she said it was their hair that irritated her skin, it would fall off and poke into her arm. She was never bitten and told me, like bats, it takes so much to make them bite someone, if it happened it would be her fault for annoying it!
from tater-fay :
Thanks for the info..I did give $$ to OXFAM. Anyways, so, I read Bruce's Walmart entry and it's amusing that he swears in German...I like that. I loved it when my friend Hans would swear at the pinball machine at the shitty bar in Dutch..and now I swear in Dutch, too! I MOSTLY just swear in English,though..how 'bout you?
from forty-plus :
I guess your pretend Northern friend's attempt at being clever landed a little flat! On a more serious note, every time I watch a news report about the loss of life and see the parents carrying their children, the tears flow. How does one go on?
from forty-plus :
Pretend you can see my evil mother eye and wagging mother finger. "How in the world do you expect your body to be able to function on that little food? And you wonder why you have headaches?" How funny, at the beginning of your entry I was going to ask you how feel being a vegetarian affects your illness. I think we will wait to discuss that until you eat enough to be considered alive! ;)
from forty-plus :
Brother. How do you live with the man? ;-)
from forty-plus :
Oh no, I followed your link. I want all those little furry bunnies! I do. I have no will power. Good thing I'm here and they're there. I hope you feel better moment by moment.
from forty-plus :
Happy Thanksgiving Day! I wish a wonderfully peaceful day for you and Dr. Bruce. I miss reading you (by the way)!
from forty-plus :
And you mailed it! Excellent.
from forty-plus :
I've been freezing for days now. All scrunched over and the crease between my eyebrows ... scary! I need to build a bigger lizard habitat and climb into their 110 degree warm area, then maybe I'd be a little less crabby. Maybe.
from forty-plus :
You have to deal with it much more than I do, but it is annoying when people say, "But you look well..." while you feel like they're thinking it's all an exaggeration. It was nice of Patty to offer a rub though. I'm sure she meant it in a loving spirit. I'm sorry to hear of your seizures and I'm praying for some peaceful healing for you. xx, Y.
from forty-plus :
Happy Birthday, Sweet Girl!
from saladwhore :
Hey Ruthie! I haven't been here in FOREVER, but I had something I wanted to let you know about. If any of your rabbit loving friends are plus-sized gals, PLEASE clue them in about Lane Bryant! I was just browsing their website and they are selling coats and sweaters trimmed in RABBIT PELTS. UGH!!!!!!! I am so sick. I just spent about $60 there a few weeks ago. I don't even want to WEAR that stuff now! :-( AND THE SELL MY FAVORITE UNDERWEAR!!!!!!! I emailed them that i have been wearing their clothes since I was 14 and I will not be spending any more money on their rabbit killer crap! Anyhoo, clue in your chubster friends. I'm quite ticked. Can you get HRS involved somehow? I think we need to napalm lane Bryant's fat corporate ass! http://www.lanebryant.com/
from inkdragon :
I'm missing you!
from inkdragon :
The code I got from Fuzzmom is: <center><a href="http://pinkbraceletfund.freeservers.com" target="new"><img src="http://www.ronchelle.com/pleasehelp.gif" border=0"></a></center>. Hope this helps.
from inkdragon :
Velveteen Artist, that sounds so sweet!
from inkdragon :
I hope we get to see photos of your finished work. I like getting de-listed once in a while.
from inkdragon :
There are tears in the atmosphere today. I need to have a few more, just looking for a little privacy.
from atomicbuddha :
Cute little jailed bunnieeeeeees!! I LOVE Babs!! It's something about white animals...perhaps they appeal to my innate sense of goodness and pureness of heart?
from inkdragon :
If you can't play nicely, it's behind bars for you! Poor bunnies...although, they don't look sad. Fuzzy, cute creatures.
from inkdragon :
Those are serious wounds. I wouldn't have thought it about rabbits, they seem so sweet. Fooled me!
from cccerberus :
that's weird that some student could find your diary. i've been googled almost daily for an entry i wrote reviewing a movie about a serial killer. i finally deleted that entry. people google the strangest stuff, and get to my diary that way. someone in france googled 'her cyclist legs' then translated my diary page into french! it was a pretty twisted story, interesting to see it in another language!
from inkdragon :
Be safe! About the manipulation ... it's relative to the sweetness factor, not the physical weight, right? Again, my thoughts are with you, Bruce, the bunnies/cats and the other bunny rescue families.
from inkdragon :
Wishing away your pain.
from inkdragon :
Sounds like a perfect setting to find everything important in life!
from inkdragon :
So glad Ms. Bunny is so much better!
from atomicbuddha :
Keep us posted on Mirage's results! I'll light a candle for her tonight in hopes that she is just fine.
from inkdragon :
Good luck at the bunny vet tomorrow.
from atomicbuddha :
Awwww. What a sweet entry today. You'll always have that grooming memory to cherish. I love it when our animals reach out to us.
from inkdragon :
A little mutual grooming does a heart good!
from inkdragon :
I love a healthy purge! Good for you.
from atomicbuddha :
Yes, happy anniversary! LOVE the pictres! What a sweet entry. You are SO beautiful!!
from inkdragon :
Happy Anniversary! Those photos are perfect.
from boxx9000 :
Happy Anniversary! It's so nice to hear that there really is a happily ever after. I'm so happy for the both of you. You make my heart smile.
from inkdragon :
I think you should buy your friend's parrot a chew toy of thick wood blocks and rope. The kind that Greys, Amazons, and McCaws LOVE to destroy! I hope you'll take photos to share.
from boxx9000 :
I have a t-shirt from my local art supply store that says: "ART, my drug of choice."
from inkdragon :
A huge welcoming {hug} for Babs and Snookums!
from inkdragon :
I love my therapist. She has facilitated a major life improvement. That's so stuffy-sounding. She rocks my socks! Much better. Good luck.
from inkdragon :
You are a funky girl! Love it.
from inkdragon :
I would have been wailing and doing a frantic dance also. I've been stung twice this summer after years of not. I'm not liking it at all and these northern bees are nothing like you're dealing with. Ugh. And fire ants? Maybe the north isn't that bad. Ha, who am I kidding? I'd move down South in a second! Hope you recover quickly.
from saladwhore :
Now I told Dr. Bruce awhile ago to let you know you can lock certain entries and leave the rest of your diary open for the fans! Silly me to think a guy would be reliable enough to pass on some info. *snort* (NO offense, I love Doc Bruce, but he is only a mere man, afterall.) Anyhoo, yes - lovely feature, used it myself a bit... :-) Anyway, it's wonderful to have you back again, I really missed reading you. I am in love with your fosterbun Napkin, by the way. What a big ol' cuddly thing! Awwww! As for the medical coverage - I knoooow, 'bout time, huh? It's something that's available here in Cook County, Illinois. It used to be mainly for families, but this past spring they expanded the program to include individuals as well. It's crazy that most of the help out there is for people who've popped out a kid or two! I'm sick of that. Is it horribly expensive for Doc B to cover you on his medical plan at work? I hate that . . . At my mom's job, she could get coverage for a Significant Other, but not for me. How do ya like THAT one? Michael Moore's next film is going to be about health care in the US and the HMO empire. I am writing him a long letter, as I have a lot to say about that one... I had Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO up until August 2002. I should not have spent the last four and half years wondering what is wrong with me . . .
from inkdragon :
I feel so badly for the woman whose dog had to be put to sleep. I am glad Loki's condition is manageable.
from inkdragon :
Sending Loki healthy bunny vibes!
from inkdragon :
It's so nice to read you again.
from saladwhore :
*poke* Hey what's this I hear about two new residents taking up space in your home? C'mon, I gotta know about them!!! I really miss reading you and stuff . . . I've kind of abandoned my diary so I haven't been around here much but to read a few faves. I just keep hoping you'll unlock someday . . . maybe. Well, tell Doc Bruce to give us a new bunny upate or somethin' I need the scoop! Chloe and Bekkah send you hugs 'n' kises as always. Take care!
from inkdragon :
Are you okay? If there's anything I can do, please let me know. Thinking of you.
from atomicbuddha :
I hope all is well since your diary is locked...are you only letting a select few in right now? Could I be one of those if this is the case? If not, I totally understand...people lock diaries for different reasons, maybe you're making changes...I just hope everything is okay.
from avalonte :
Why are you locked???!!!
from tater-fay :
I hope you read your notes. I'm sure you aware of this but your diary is locked (well, DUH..like you'd do it on accident, or WOULD YOU?) Could I have the info to get into it? Ps..I love "Crazy Man Michael" off Liege and Lief as well..I also love "Maddy Groves"...I like all the Fairport Convention albums up through 1970 (Full House, I think)..even the very first one they did where Sandy Denny wasn't the singer...
from atomicbuddha :
Sorry I've been bad about keeping in touch... I hope you are feeling better. Also, I had to say your trip to Memphis sounds lovely. I really love Memphis, I've been there 2x and adored it each time. I would have been right there with you in the library looking at those art books...a perfect afternoon.
from boxx9000 :
Happy Easter. Did you decorate Easter Eggs?
from sunnflower :
I'm glad you stopped by and left a note. I really appreciate it when someone takes the time to do that. Hope you'll stop by regularly. But promise me you'll put in your link when you leave a note - I'm lazy and just like to click to visit the note writer! Carry on with talk of lovely gardens.
from boxx9000 :
You've been to Holland???? I am soooooo envious! I want to go to the Van Gogh museum. I can't wait to see the pictures. I'm currently working on a mural at school (on the garden shed) that is Van Gogh Irises.
from saladwhore :
Well, I've been working on the images for them template - it's going to be lovely! Let me know when you're ready for them. I can email them to you so you can upload them. Once I have the URLs of the images, I can work on the coding. :-) How is Loki doing today? I'm sitting on pins and needles waiting to hear . . .
from avalonte :
Argh! I have the same problem. I never get informed when my guestbook's signed either! Anyway, I'm glad I inspired you! We tend to take the older generation too much for granted. Oh, and thanks for letting me know my layout works for you! I think we've worked out the problem. The reader has a Mac, and she knows someone else who also has a problem reading it, who also has a Mac! So I think Macs just take exception to my template! LOL!
from balsam :
I've been updating less frequently because of the two year old at my knee who is screaming for her "bubba" (milk). It makes it a bit difficult to concentrate! Thanks for the birthday wishes. I don't know what's up with Martha Stewart. I think they're gonna make her step down from her own companies. All this mess just to cheat the stock market out of $51000. Bit of a false economy wasn't it?
from saladwhore :
Well my Mom eventually became an English professor, so we're still weirder than you! :p
from inkdragon :
I'm still looking for my spring flowers to pop out of the ground. It is getting warmer here so there's hope!
from cccerberus :
hi, ruthiebat...as you might very well suspect from some of my writing, i do study and take seriouisly such subjects as energetics, etc. so i thought i'd share with you some basic feng shui knowledge. water under the house can have adverse affects on people's health, but this can be redirected by putting into practice some feng shui. a watched an 88 yr old expert douse a friend's property. i believe he planted some copper somewhere under the house to deflect the negative effects of underground water, and my friend's health, which was a serious problem for years, rapidly improved. best of lucK, jane
from saladwhore :
Well I'm glad you didn't really poo yourself, but I knew you'd be excited. Aww, I have a soft spot for Dutchies too - my very first bunny ever was a black and white male named Jellybean. (He was named when we got him.) This was 1982 and he was a house bunny!!! He'd go crazy over the smell of pizza and his favorite thing in the world was to run down our long hallway and go flying into my Mom's waterbed with a resounding -PLOP!- Such a character he was. :-)
from saladwhore :
Thank you for your very long note(s) - and yes, I do believe you qualify as an expert my dear. I'm sort of one too, but not on the claw front really. When I was dumb and didn't know the HRS even existed, I had 2 boy bunnies (about 8 and 10 years ago now) whom I had declawed. PLEASE DON'T YELL AT ME. Someone at my local HRS chapter already cussed over the phone and hung up on me in 1997 for that. I know it's bad, bad, bad and would never do it again. That said, these bunnies with toenails are sort of a new thing to me. I get the job of trimming them, which isn't so bad, but I need Another Human to hold Bunny while I trim and Mother is Always Busy. They don't get trimmed often enough is the problem here I think. Rebekkah lost a back toenail a few months ago in our floor grate. It wasn't a bloody incident, and we keep the grate covered now. I still have no clue how Chloe tore both dew claws off in one night. I found the non-bloody, discarded nail laying on the living room carpet, not near anything she could have hurt herself on. The other, bloodier one is still a mystery, and yes - she tore it ALL off, skin and everything. :-( That's what had me so worried! I hate never having any of my own money - I would have called the vet and taken her in. Anyway, the bleeding had already stopped last night, it wasn't a lot. She really seemed to like have the cold of the ice on it (which was in a ZipLock bag by the way) but she hasn't let me grab her yet today. She is eating fine (i.e. constantly when not napping) and behaving perfectly normally. It's drear and rainy here today, both girls have been lazy, sleepy bums all afternoon which is typical. We'll check it out later tonight during Run Time. When Bekkah lost her nail, we soaked her foot in warm water for a few days and she really liked that. My Mom was a nurse for several years before she became an English professor so she is really handy with first aid stuff! Tell Loki that Chloe doesn't particularly care much for banana or pineapple (weird bunny!), but she has had a few extra dried papaya bits today and we are headed for the grocery store to get her and Bekkah some cantaloupe (their favorite.) Your yard/garden plans sound wonderful and could you send that 70-degree air up here please? I can't complain - it's so balmy here today that the heat is set at 69 and I am not the least bit cold, not even my nose. Thanks for listening, Ruthie. Chloe and Bekkah both send you gentle little bunny licks - but just a couple cuz they're stingy like that.
from livesand :
Yeah, I always thought that Psychic Fruitbats were better than Psychic TV. And I'm sick of them brown bags staring at me!
from saladwhore :
Ruthie, my Chloe bunny is hurt! I have no clue HOW she did it, but tonight I went to take her out of my Mom's lap and she had blood on her shirt. I said is that from you or Chloe? Aww, Chloe had ripped out not one but BOTH dewclaws! I feel SO bad. One is OK and didn't bleed but the left one is totally gone and bled a little bit for awhile. We soaked it, held ice on it, I put some Neosporin on it. Is there anything else I can do? I know to keep it clean and stuff. She's eating fine, munching on endive as I type, but I can tell it hurts her when she tries to stretch and stuff. :-( You're a bunny expert so I thought I'd ask for some advice. I just feel so bad - Rebekkah pestered me to death all evening (more so than usual) and I now realize she was trying to tell me about Chloe. (She's a big tattletale.) Dumb human, when will I learn to listen? :-\
from inkdragon :
STOP TEASING! Spring will get to Connecticut ... eventually. I can't wait. I want it, I need it. P.S. Thank you for my note. It will all work out.
from atomicbuddha :
I am honored by your donation and your entry about Domi. Thank you doesn't seem like enough...I mean of course you'll get that autographed picture too...but thank you so, so much. (and yes, I'm crying)
from saladwhore :
Please overlook the horrendous spelling I just left in your guestbook. Key words are: HUMANS and HINDU. Ughh.
from saladwhore :
Aww, hon - keep your Advil, no need to share. I buy Aleve in the 200 count size and take about ten of them each day. *clutches her Aleve mojo tightly* What's with these fevers then? I have the butterfly rash flaring up too - my nose looks like someone has been chewing on it. *reaches for more betamethasone cream* So, I was just at Dr. Bruce's braggin' on you and bragging about my big huge rabbits. My bunnies could EAT your bunnies!!!! Mwah ha ha ha ha!!!!! *hugs*
from atomicbuddha :
Here's hoping Miss Bunny feels better soon. Oh yeah, I'm so glad to hear that the tarantulas aren't in the house!! It helps me sleep better.
from atomicbuddha :
Congrats on your 350th!!! And...EWWWWWWWWW...I am an animal lover but that love really stops at arachnids to be quite honest...unless they are those tiny little green or white spiders, they're kinda cool. But, congrats on being the proud new Mommy to the furry crawly things with all the eyes.
from balsam :
Tunisian Frankinscence?! Wow. That sounds terribly exotic.
from cccerberus :
Dr. Bruce, Yes, hmmmm- I've walked out on many a community colleges college class. Oi!</P><P> Ruth, You alright? That diary entry about your health was enlightening. Write on!
from saladwhore :
You're right, I do rock. Hard. :p But I didn't mean to make you cry with the rockage, heh heh. Yeah I get the "you just need to work out" thing more than anything else. "You'd feel so much better if you just got into an exercise program." Mmm-hmm, right. While I am not a huge fan of exercise anyway, there was a healthier time when I walked 3 miles a day for pure enjoyment. I really miss it. I would love to do that again. It's very discouraging though when a half mile walk exhausts you to the point of spiking a 101 fever and makes your legs so achey you stay in bed for two days following the walk. Mind over matter?! Chaosdaily, if that was all there was to it, do you really think me and Ruthie would be where we are? What a load of horse poo. I happen to know I am very strong-minded and I'm betting Ruthie is even moreso. If it were really all mind over matter, you'd be seeing Ruthie and I in the Olympics. Give me a break. Of course i believe a positive attitude is healthy and necessary, but I find your comment tactless and rude. Ruthie, you did not alienate me whatsoever. We are united in sisterhood beyond bunnies and you rock harder than me for saying what needed to be said. Rant whenever you want and I will keep pointing my arrow in your direction. Hugs and kisses.
from inkdragon :
Your "Rant about Illness" was probably the most honest and moving entry I've read in some time. You are a remarkable human being. Thank you.
from chaosdaily :
i used to work for a group of rheumatologists, so i know what you are talking about. but i believe in mind over matter too, although the mind can only do so much. but a good attitude helps. good luck, and keep the faith!!
from squirrelrat :
I have a question for you, Ruthie: Are lop-eared rabbits especially prone to, ummm, shall we say dirty bottoms?
from tater-fay :
Aw..I can talk poopy (SHIT!) to you any old time. I'm gonna do it right now and gross you out: diarrhea, loose stool, corn poop, green poop, poop stains in your underwear and in the toilet bowl. The smell of cabbage poop! Are you happy! Are you turned on? HAHAHAHA. I need to go pee, sorry.
from atomicbuddha :
It feels SO gooood to have a clean and usable studio space, even if it is small and posing as a clothing room/fitness room too. Someday, I will have a REAL studio but only if I prove to myself I will actually USE it!! Yay for us!! Clean studios for all!!
from cccerberus :
dear R, I have an idea for a 'zine that is more relative to our lives at the moment- "Better Homes -N- Ghetto." Simon and I will be doing some 8 1/2 x 11 pages on our places, etc. and would like to extend the invitation to you. I'm beginning a Photoshop course which goes from Jan- Mar and I hope to gain some skills from that so Perhaps the mag would be out mid-march, early april? Anyway, it was loveley to meet you again, in person, recently. You look well. Please forgive my ignorance. I did not know what lupus was at the time when you mentioned it, therefore I feel I did not properly respond. I am not the most socially adept person at times. Also, was tired and spaced out from travelling and the flu. Please accept my hugs and apologies. I wish you all the best and I offer you my humble support if there is anything I can do. Love, Jane
from atomicbuddha :
Glad to have you back, flapping mary janes and all!! Give those cute bunny-wunnies a big kiss for me!!
from mr-oaf :
The case is simple enough - we believe Bruce to be one of those apparently "normal" surburbanite scientists who turns out to be an ex-Weather Underground fugitive wanted in five states for blowing shit up! We also found out it was Saddam's wife who snitched to the cops so Ruth we're offering good Australian candy such as: a case of Crunchies, a packet of Twisties, some Smarties and Twirls. The choice is yours...
from atomicbuddha :
Awwww...what a sweet entry about your Hubby!! It touched me. Also wanted to leave a note the other day about the hair grabbing...I totally experience this same phenomenon!! How freaky!
from squirrelrat :
Sky thanks you, and so do I! :)
from atomicbuddha :
You may remember this but half of our front yard is also moss and it practically sold me the house!! I have always coveted the Japanese moss gardens and have always wanted one...we've had them in miniature on our bonsai trees for years. I am very careful to remove the 7 million maple leaves that fall on our moss garden every day as well, although it is QUITE the job. YAY for moss!!! Do you have the Moss Gardening book? It is fabulous!!
from balsam :
I could never live anywhere there wasn't regular, reliable snow. Even New England is getting too warm for me; I've begun fantasizing about Quebec. (Stupid global warming!)
from balsam :
Well three cheers for Bruce! That's the kind of husband every woman needs. I kept working after my first was born because I had the health insurance and my husband's job didn't and he has a freelance web design business that he does out of the house. The arrangement has been okay in that he is great with the Bean and it made financial sense. But in terms of sanity and quality of life it just sucks. All the things I love to do: clean, cook, sew, etc. I can only do if I stay home. And my husband doesn't get a thrill out of washing dishes like I do so........... Anyway, in NH we should be at a better balance and I am really looking forward to it!
from atomicbuddha :
I HATE tornadoes...I do not miss the tornado warnings we had constantly in Illinois. I really hate wind and flying debris and roofs being blown off and trees down, ugh, so many bad Isabel memories. I'm glad you are all okay and unscathed.
from squirrelrat :
I dread cleaning the house too. Well, I should say, I USED to: now my husband does it all. Every bit of it. I think, how lucky to have married a neat-freak, as he is, for whom to clean is second nature! =^^=
from atomicbuddha :
Good idea on teh ricepaper!! I may have to use that. I have a door that goes from my kitchen to my garage and it has little windows on it and I was trying to think of a nice way to cover it while still letting light through, etc. How are you going to attach the ricepaper??
from haloaskew :
sanka, sanka, sanka! (my way of saying thank you) I have posted again (gasp!) and I need to catch up on your stuff...SweetPea and Buddy and Nub say hi to da bunnies!
from tater-fay :
Gawd..the nerve of some people! I hope he got put in jail and I hope you NEVER have to see him again. Be safe, sweetie! Thank God for Dr. Bruce...let's give him a crown (like the Lion in the Wizard of Oz) though you probably could have gotten rid of him yourself..sometimes it's nice to have a big man around!
from sambadelic :
Yay for crinoids! I had a gigantic collection growing up in Indiana. There aren't any to be found here in Massachusetts, dang.
from avalonte :
By the way, a belated happy birthday to you!! And I hope Zesto's feeling better! The snow globe analogy made me laugh!
from atomicbuddha :
I'm so glad you liked the card...it just called your name. I hope things with Zesto straighten out soon...for your sanity and his!!
from tater-fay :
Happy Halloween AND Happy Birthday! What is your email address? I wanted to send you a cool vintage e-card! Mine is [email protected]
from mr-oaf :
Pampelmousse = grape fruit. We should tell you the unfortunate story of the squirrel in the cage some time. Or pehaps not.
from saladwhore :
Dr. Bruce has totally won me over with the W comment. Do you share?
from atomicbuddha :
Enjoy your trip to New Hampshire!! We'll miss you!!
from squirrelrat :
I tried to post a message in your guestbook, but I don't think I was successful. But I really enjoyed the entries about the baby squirrel rescue, and you are going straight into my favourites, because anyone who goes all out for squirrels is an instant friend of mine. And, in your entry about "dweeb" jazz, you said "freakin'" twelve times. Shall I expect something in the post from Alabama soon? :)
from saladwhore :
Thank you so much for stopping by and reading the pathetic drivel that has taken over my lame excuse of a diary. I really like my layout too, I was so lucky to have someone (srch4balance) design a custom one for me for FREE. I love that gal. :) Anyway, I'm truly honored to be added to your list of favorites. I'm really looking forward to reading more of YOUR diary SOON! :) Xxx
from squirrelx :
Oh_my God! Ruthie! Those are without a doubt the sweetest squirrel pictures I've ever seen in my entire life. I hope you don't mind me linkin' to your diary in my next entry. I want as many folks as possible to see 'em and to know what an angel you are for rescuin' the babies. With infinite gratitude and respect, Xtine
from atomicbuddha :
SQUIRREL!!!omg, omg, omg...how cute is he? SQUIRREL! ADORABLE!!
from atomicbuddha :
Thanks for the note and I may just take you up on that offer sometime. If you want to email me your email address all privately and such that would be tres cool. You should be able to use the Contact Me button on my site to get to my email, if not let me know.
from atomicbuddha :
You are SO sweet to offer that. I am crying right now. Thank you. I do appreciate the offer. We will probably not travel that far away but if we change our minds I will let you know. That is just so nice...and it would be so fun to visit you!! I am with you on the tornados too...had those in Illinois and they are SCARY as HELL. Thankfully we had that basement to hide out in but ugh, the look of the sky right before it happens, that garish green color and the stillness...freaky things. Thank you for the well wishes and the candle lighting, we need that right now.
from sambadelic :
At the moment, my attention span allows me to type "Donovan, man, I mean, y'know" although I want to say something about quilts, since youse been of these parts, ever see that totally obsessive one in that Hysteric Deerfield Museum made up entirely of 1/2 inch scraps? Cripes!
from sambadelic :
Yeah, I'm back. It's more of the same, but someting has shifted, can't put my finger on what, though. The family cat is psychotic since our return, and yells at us every minute, "Man! You guys SUCK for leaving me like that! Grr!"
from tater-fay :
Oh, I forgot to put this in your guestbook. Just down the street from my new home (right before you cross a big bridge) is this little house with a sign out front that say's "Ruthie B's Antiques"..I keep thinking "RuthieBat's Antiques"..I need to go in there! I thought you'd be amused:)
from atomicbuddha :
Enjoy your mad dash of a vacation. Thanks for the soggy dog biscuits in advance. I'm not fond of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel either, but I live maybe 5 miles from it!! I might actually catch a glimpse of your waving!!
from atomicbuddha :
That blue and black salvia is GORGEOUS!! I want to grow some toooooo!!!!! Congrats on the anniversary of your closing, a big event indeed. No more landlords, I'm dancing for you right now, the no more landlord dance. Whoooooo-wooo!!
from haloaskew :
I was cuter than MISS BUNNY??!! Oh my goodness, that is a serious compliment! Just don't let her know you said that! I don't want her nibbling off my face instead of jerko neighbor.
from haloaskew :
Thanks! I have received the juju successfully and now feel more protected than ever. If bastard next door neighbor finds out and tries to pull something, can you send over Miss Bunny to chew off his face? (Can she be REALLY evil, like the bunny in Monty Python's The Holy Grail?)
from atomicbuddha :
You're going to Chincoteague!?!? Cool, wave at Norfolk/Virginia Beach as you go by...I'll wave back! Chincoteague is only about 3 hours from me!! Are you taking the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel or approaching the Maryland way?
from sambadelic :
Philanthropy and a Mini Cooper! I keep seeing the rich college kids around here driving them and considering a disgruntled working class carjacking, I can be pretty threatening with my accordion! I'll be smashing up some ceramic tiles here directly, anyway.
from haloaskew :
No, that's not the Ambassador to the Bunny Kingdom with froggy ears on my site. Noodle wouldn't never tolerate such a thing. :) I found the photo on a Japanese site that makes hats for cats and I couldn't resist using it. I'll be posting pix of my menagerie soon!
from haloaskew :
You go, girl! I've had more trouble with doctors, dentists and vets than you can shake a crappy tube of ointment at. Bravo to you for getting in their face about Dr. Bastard!
from atomicbuddha :
That Doctor was appalling!! I really have little use for Doctors also and experiences like that just confirm my feelings. Also, working on the greyhound thing, trying to find the website for you. Didn't want you to think I forgot. Most importantly, I hope you are feeling better. The ear bleeding thing is disturbing. Let us know!!
from haloaskew :
Yeah...you never know, I just might leave that note. It would probably be the nicest they'd ever received. Heehoo!
from tater-fay :
Hi!! Eaten any tater-fay salad lately? Hee Hee. Just wanted to say "howdy!"
from atomicbuddha :
Thank you!!! Maybe it's just a hoax or a falsehood then. That would make me feel so much better. But if it isn't I'm not even sure what to think!! By the way I wasn't trying to "dis" Alabama...it kinda sounded that way in my last note and I wanted to make sure you knew that. I was just pissed at any state that would allow something so crazy. This has my hackles raised!! Thanks for checking into it though. I'm off to get my Charlie-boy!!
from atomicbuddha :
Ick...sorry to be a total downer and I haven't had time to write about this in my diary because I'm off to pick Charlie up but...I just got wind of a bill that they are trying to pass in your lovely state of Alabama that will classify Greyhounds as livestock...to, presumably, make them easier to kill. It's Bill 37 I think. Have you heard of it? I'm so disgusted I could throw up. This has horrible implications. If you find anything about it let me know.
from haloaskew :
Thanks! You do some damn good jigging, woman!
from rainy-daze- :
heyloooooooooooooooooo (",)
from atomicbuddha :
Thank you!! Your candle and wishes worked!!!
from atomicbuddha :
I love dachshunds! I love Prague!
from sambadelic :
It seems to be way inside somewhere. My job requires removing old and repacking new gauze into a 3" deep tiny hole 2x a day.
from sambadelic :
You mentioned you worked in a hospital, so lucky you, you get some pus details! The surgery was the laparascopic, out-the-navel kind, and the navel incision is the baddie. We have to keep it draining by packing it with fresh gauze 2x a day. Yikes.
from sambadelic :
I like the Prague photos. I broke up with a boyfriend there, after dragging out that destructive relationship through Germany, Belgium, France and Switzerland. I took some photos there too, but for some reason focused mostly on all the rot and ruin I saw in '92.
from atomicbuddha :
WOW!! I loooove the Flander's poppy! It is gorgeous. I know that poem and think those poppies are fabulous as well. I didn't know they actually had a type called Flanders. I'm so similar in that respect, there are certain flowers/trees I really have a hankering to find and grow. I am not as specific as you are but I currently need a hydrangea bush, the big old fashioned kind that I can make turn REALLY blue with a high aluminum content in my soil. I've always wanted one, they remind me of simpler times. I am also on the quest for a weeping willow I can train as bonsai....so far all have been too large to train. A couple years ago all I wanted was to have as many bald cypress bonsai as possible and now we have at least 7! Anyway, I love reading about and seeing your garden!!
from haloaskew :
What a beautiful rendition of "Happy Birthday"! Sounds like your two bunnies will put the three mousies from "Babe" out of business! Thanks!
from atomicbuddha :
Thanks for the calming vibes. I think they took a while to travel here from sweet home Alabama, but I SWEAR I can feel them hitting me now....or washing over me is probably a more accurate description than hitting me...well, you know...
from haloaskew :
Thank you so much for your note. I betcha Ty and Izzy are romping around together somewhere right now! :)
from sambadelic :
I'll take a Miller High Life and put down $8 on the ants. I have carpenter ants in my house, and at night the real heavyweights emerge to scavenge. I have seen them almost an inch long!
from atomicbuddha :
Thank you for your enthusiasm and support of our wood. It means a lot. I'll have to take pics of the fence when it's done. I'm spending so much on this fence I may have to be out there lovingly rubbing it down with minwax or something every damned day.
from sambadelic :
Go!
from sambadelic :
Just LOVING seeing your cranky/frantic 3 sheets side!
from haloaskew :
"tiny piece of banana" - for some reason, that cracked me up. P.S. Glad to hear you and your loved ones are safe and sound!
from atomicbuddha :
I feel for you with all this nasty weather. I hate bad weather, it is so depressing and really peels back all your layers to make you realize how damned vulbnerable we all are to Mother Nature. I'll light a candle for you and do a little meditation in your (and all those in the path of this nastiness) honor. I'm sending good and safe energy your way right now...
from atomicbuddha :
AW man, I'm such a sucker for cool cabinet pulls! Yes please, get me that URL when you get a chance. Also...I am SO JEALOUS of your spectacularly beautiful yard!! Wow, that is a yard straight out of my dreams. THAT is precisely what we need to work up to. For now, our modest and flat yard will do just fine but later on...watch out, I'm finding a jungle/forest/secret garden/lost world yard too! More picture please, more, more, more.
from sambadelic :
Whoa. Your yard is the size of my neighborhood! What a job - I like the circular courtyard. You should invest in some of that cast iron furniture - so nice.
from haloaskew :
Thanks for the advice! Now if I only had some Advil and a couch...I'll be home soon enough, but every minute feels like eternity (P.S. Congrats on your 200th entry!)
from atomicbuddha :
I know...let's pour a libation to funky 50's-60's bathrooms!! Wooooooo!!!!
from haloaskew :
I know! I'm still in shock myself...pretty damn cool! Oh, and I do happen to live in the South, which is probably why I can't stand roaches because they're friggin' HUGE here!
from haloaskew :
That guy Ben probably thinks you're a cool and bold chicko for touching his hair. Kinda sounds like he took to it like a dog getting a good scratchin' from a new friend he met walking along the sidewalk. And always remember what Madonna said: "Absolutely no regrets"
from atomicbuddha :
It warms my heart to know someone appreciates the Friday Zen. Honestly it does.
from atomicbuddha :
You go little Miss Bunny! Ravage that naughty piece of fruit! Rrraarrrr!!!
from atomicbuddha :
You're in luck. Little Miss Willow the White just informed me this morning that she is taking applications for more Bee-atches. I'll send yours out right away and, no worries, I think you are just the right type. (she has a soft spot for us redheaded artsy types).
from haloaskew :
So happy you finally saw the Toys R Us ad! Wasn't it the cutest? Dems so sweet!
from atomicbuddha :
Sorry this took me a while to respond to...so bad about checking my notes sometimes...I DO think you can easily teach yourself some feltmaking from a book, it is quite easy to learn. Let me know if you do. I could give you some easy instructions to if you are interested. Let me know.
from atomicbuddha :
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwhatacuteeewittlewabbitbunnywunny.... I mean, that's s totally cute picture of Loki and his banana!
from sambadelic :
EEEEhha! (That's the best I can do to type for you the bunny adoration noise I'm making over here.) Buuunnneee!
from atomicbuddha :
I just noticed you took my artist survey (you probably took it a while ago huh? I'm no good at keeping up, I swear...) Anyway, I enjoyed reading your answers AND I wanted to tell you I've done lots of feltmaking! I've even taught classes in it! Nothing too elaborate, just wall hangings, assemblage-type sculpture things, and a big coat/cloak type thing that wasn't really meant to be worn. I miss it, I haven't done any since 1997. You should definitely try it, especially with all your fiber experience. The process of hand-felting a really large piece is amazing. (I actually foot-felt large pieces...walking and stomping and dancing on them...) It's good stuff. I love the smell of the wet wool and the soap (I use the soap/water/agitation method...mmmmmmm...suddenly I am inspired!!
from sambadelic :
Fantastic freaky flower fotos.
from atomicbuddha :
The murals are for my martial arts studio...2 in the kids play area and one in the 2nd workout area. Wheeeeeeee...not how I really wanted to spend my weekend but still...it's money. I will, of course, kiss the dogs for you!! I never miss a chance to kiss the dogs..NEVER! Have a fabulous weekend.
from haloaskew :
I loved your entry today...oh man, I can't believe your fish jumped out and went down the disposal! And the tornado sirens and hyper mom message happening at the same time...Geez!! Too funny, man. But I'm so happy fishie is ok!! Oh hey, have you seen the new Toys R Us ads for their pre-Easter sale? A bunch of bunnies singing "Here Comes Peter Cottontail, hopping down the bunny trail..." in really high voices (like the 3 mousies from Babe). Geoffrey finally puts his foot down and says "Alright, alright! We'll have a pre-Easter sale, just stop singing!" Hee!
from atomicbuddha :
Thanks for asking...Sully is feeling better, much better. Thank gods...I was really worried about my little man. That's funny, the idea you get from his name. (the whole good 'ol boy Townie thing!!) I'm Irish (as you may already know if you've read various entries of mine)and my Mom's maiden name is O'Sullivan. So His full name is TiWalk's Braveheart O'Sullivan...the TiWalk being a family name (his mom was Tia Maria and his Dad was Something Something Windwalker) and the Braveheart being an oxymoron! So my view of Sully or Sullivan is rather more good 'ol Irish boy...with a bit of the British proper pansy boy in short pants thrown in for good measure. His personality is more like a Niles or Frasier Crane than anything...with a hint more moxy. He's quite the dog...my silly and EXTREMELY smart boy. I'll have to do an entry about him and his antics. SORRY for the looong note..I get to talking about my babies and can't stop.
from sambadelic :
It's a damn small world! It's Northampton - ever hear of Laurel Park? It's like living in a campground - because that's what it used to be. We found our house when we came to their community tag sale, which suits us fine because just about everything we've ever owned has been 2nd hand. It was standing empty and had an ever-so-depressing musty odor all about it, but like any good tag-salers, we knew it had potential. Mr. S thinks he might have known Daniel, was he in a Beefheartesque band?
from atomicbuddha :
In reading through your archives I came across one from September of last year in which you bought a Pennywhistle and I just had to write and say I have 2!!!! I have a C and a D pennywhistle and I play morbid and not so morbid Irish tunes. Yay. Also, I remember a brief mention of your youthful Beatlemania and had to say Paul McCartney was my very first love and I was a total Beatlemaniac...still am, a little. I just saw Paul in concert last year in D.C., it was amazing to see a real-live Beatle.
from atomicbuddha :
Thanks! We LOVE the old cars...my husband has a 1967 Plymouth too. We feel so fortunate, now if the house deal goes through we'll be ecstatic.
from atomicbuddha :
Thanks for the finger crossing...damn, after reading through some of your archives I am finding more and more similarities between us...not to mention the house hell you went through. I wish I had more time to read today, but regardless I am really enjoying reading your diary! I so look forward to it on Monday when I am back at the computer. And yes, lookng like an IG is an incredible compliment!
from haloaskew :
I ran across your diary yesterday and fell in love with your bunnies instantly! I've been clicking around, browsing some of your other entries and really enjoy what I'm reading...I'm a big animal lover myself (have a cat and a dog). Being the silly gal I am, I tell my cat (Noodle) bunny stories all the time, and have this whole made-up thing going on with him about the fact that he's the Ambassador to the Bunny Kingdom. Oftentimes, before I go to work, I ask him if he'll be having the bunnies over for a picnic or a meeting and what's on the agenda. It's goofy, but it makes me smile, and Noodle seems to enjoy it. And, oh...I must say, the story about Ty's passing just about broke my heart. I'm so sorry for your loss. Makes me want to run home and cuddle with my babies! I look forward to reading more of your diary. Take care and love to the bunnies!
from atomicbuddha :
Okay, as I'm reading through a couple of your older entries I think you may be the long lost sister I never had...it's just this feeling I get. I totally cried about your sweet Siamese that passed too...I'm still crying actually. My very fist cat, Shang Bang-a-lang, was a beautiful Siamese that passed in my arms after 19 long years of faithful friendship. You have my deep sympathies. Oh, I could go on and on...sorry...I'll just be reading some more tomorrow and possibly drop you another note.
from atomicbuddha :
Thank you for the note and the kind thoughts of encouragement. House-dealings are definitely hell or at least hell-like. The whole thing just exhausts me! It's all I can think about or write about of late, how damn boring is that? It is eating tiny pinholes in my brain. Anyway, I'll be checking your diary out...if you are like Tater (but a little older) then you must be fun to read! Yay. :)
from tater-fay :
your guestbook wasn't supposedly letting me sign, but it did, and that is why you have the exact same message in your notes AND guestbook...god..feel free to delete one:)
from tater-fay :
Hee..I am constantly sending "good energy" out all the time..that doesn't sound "silly" (as you put it) to me...I'm pretty much a fucking new-agey/Pagan sort (only I like punk rock alot and don't smoke herb and go around saying "blessed be" and that shit)....I'm glad that Loki hasn't changed the word FRENCH to FREEDOM....
from sambadelic :
Yes, I need a dose of orgone, and flowers. I had to go to a greenhouse at the university to see them - my yard still has 2 feet of snow covering most of it. They do look lovely, even in the scanner smoosh.
from sambadelic :
Orgone accumulation in the privacy of your own home! Go!
from sambadelic :
Hi-I'm taking over your notes page, looks like! After getting off to a start so horrible I haven't felt like writing the details, the record moving went allright. I got out of the worst part-unloading it all in the rain and ice. Your living in a schoolbus answer is the BEST to that question, absolutely. You will be happy to know that I've actually seen that Ring of Fire video you referred to, although I don't remember the house part, somehow all I quite remember are those badasses on Borneo with bones in their noses in dugout canoes.
from sambadelic :
Dear Ruthie, I'm kinda squeamish about pictures of people on diaryland...but your pictures are fun. You have a kind and friendly face, even with that 1985 attitude!
from sambadelic :
If I had a band (today) I'd call it MEAN STREAK. I'm rather cranky. But THANKS for the bunnies, again. They make me smile every time, whatever my mood.
from hollytheliar :
I don't think I look like a gonk. I'm still a bit confused by the whole thing, and I don't know why gonks specifically have white blonde hair, but I think they're hairy all over (or so says duk) and I'm not.
from sambadelic :
Awww....BUNNIES! Pictures of bunnies! Cute, cute, KEE-YUTE bunnies!!!! MORE!
from tater-fay :
I win the contest!! Thanks for the compliment on the poem. I really wish I was home sleeping right now.
from tater-fay :
This will be a competition to see who leaves more notes in one day! Tell Loki I will pet him and squeeze him (gently) and call him George and give him a kiss (closed-mouth, naturally!) bahahahaha
from tater-fay :
Ha! That Ian Dury thing made me laugh out loud (at work nonetheless)...praise jesus (or Satan)...I don't care which one!
from tater-fay :
Oh ruthie..don't feel bad. It isn't your fault that the rabbit story upset me (along w/all the peta sites involving cat and dog killing in Asian countries..I CANNOT get some of the pictures I saw out of my head. This always happens to me, but I'd rather face it and do something then pretend none of this actually exists!) So, don't worry...everything is fine. I just don't understand human nature sometimes. I'll be fine. Today I saw somebody carrying a big balloon shaped like a strawberry that had a smiley face on it, so I had to laugh:)
from tater-fay :
I just sent a letter to that District Attorney pleading that he definetly give those ass-munchers a felony charge.
from tater-fay :
Those FUCKERS! I really hate alot of human beings...I'd like to skin those assholes alive. That might sound hypocritical that I'd be against cruelty to animals and want to kick the living shit out of some people, but so be it. I can't ever imagine raising any sort of animal for food (and no, I do eat meat on occassion, which makes me a hypocrite once again) and getting close to them the way you would a pet, and then KILLING THEM? I just can't conceive of that.
from sambadelic :
Right now a woman with wavy brown hair sits in a winterized cabin near the Connecticut River thinking about the snow thats coming this weekend and how it will effect moving 2000 records and very heavy racks up the highway 45 miles to a new record store in Vermont.
from sambadelic :
Yeehaw, "Ask and thou shalt receive!" eh? I've never done the block, 'cause I've never really done much watercoloring before. The buckling wasn't a problem, but might be if I go bigger. I guess I can live with ripping the surface of my bristol board for now, if most everything will rip anyways. I mostly use it for a nice clean white border to contain my image. I was wondering about the really cheap scotch tape I can get 5 rolls of at the dollar store, or maybe contact paper, I think I've got some experimenting to do. I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks for all the info!
from sambadelic :
Thanks for the compliment on the watercolors. I have a practical question - I did these on bristol board (that's what I had around) and masked the borders with brown packing tape which ripped the paper a bit when I removed it. I know the art store will sell me something pricey that won't rip the paper, but do you know of anything I could buy in bulk that might work better?
from sambadelic :
I don't know what to say after reading about Ty, just that I'm sorry.
from sambadelic :
That's gotta be my favorite ruthiebat entry! I'm sending out some cyber-echinacia hoping you get well soon!
from kooklafran :
Thanks for your kind note--that was nice. J seems much better. His problems stem from an auto accident some years ago. At least there ARE drugs out there that can help, that's what I'm thankful for. I haven't checked out your journal yet, but will once I have more time!
from tater-fay :
By thee way, who is Alvin Lee? Hahahahaha..did you mean ARTHUR LEE!??
from tater-fay :
Nah..I wasn't born on Halloween....born 9-2-69!! My sister was supposed to be born on Halloween but she was a week later (all my mom's kids were!) Adios!
from tater-fay :
my GOODNESS..are you ME? I checked out your profile afger I saw your comment on the 13th Floor Elevators (whom I also adore) and I was just talking about Maya Deren and ...well, WOW and you are exactly 10 years older than me!!
from sambadelic :
Easter Everywhere is MIGHTY! I'm glad I could spread a little Roky to where he's needed!
from chauffi :
I'll work on having you laugh more. My update skills have been terrible of late. I have excuses. But not really any good ones. Thanks for the kind comment though.
from sambadelic :
I think I have heard "Cruel Sister" - I know there's a Pentangle record or two around here, I've just gotta give them another listen soon!
from sambadelic :
Thanks for the note! Get this - I have been fascinated by tornados since my midwestern childhood, and regularly dream of them dangling out of the sky (hello, Dr. Freud?), thanks to Fairport Convention, I love "Tam Lin", I had a coupla stints as an artist's model, even went to art school, and my marriage is just fine, thank you
