This is a test. (beep) This is a test of the Emergency Valentine's Day System. (EVS) This test is to see if leaving notes around DLand will make this a wonderful day in spite of not particularly being with anyone romantically at the moment. (ummm) May the results be that all this love in my heart found some productive use. (smile) And maybe a giggle or few (Happy V-Day from funda too :)
from crion :
Yeah, that's from your mix. I'll get more eventually, when I'm not trying to save every penny I've got for the Tokyo trip.
from miss-edith :
Thanks for the birthday wishes sweetie!
from near-sighted :
reading your entries puts a fuzzy feeling in my heart.
from anne-jumps :
Matt Bivins has a schoolgirl crush on ME! ;-P
from daisyfaerie :
huzzah! I'm glad you know which anxiety you're fighting against and have the means to combat it. we're in this together, man.
from addieplum :
oh goovie, i am so sorry about your grandmom. it sounds like she was really amazing.
from emogrrrl :
i'm sorry for your loss.
from rarwhoisthis :
love the layout. check out rarr, you'll be satisfied.
from rachelliz :
I have caught up on reading your diary! I was going to say that you are gorgeous! but I see I am not the first. I guess I can say it anyways, huh? Glad you're having fun with singing and concerts and all.
from glitterfaery :
ooooo, purty goovie! and in a shparkly glittery dress too! *swoons*
from emogrrrl :
great pictures!
from miss-edith :
Well, aren't you the pretty one?
from panther00 :
now i know i'd seen you at CND many a time! and i still can't figure out if i'd met you in person or not! nice pics--happiness is sparkly dresses. what were you singing?
from krazywithak :
(a bit belated, but oh well) THANKS! ~from me and Shari. Good luck with the job hunts Goovie!
from crion :
I thought you'd like them. They have two cds out, I think, but they're somewhat hard to find, seeing as Miss July is a fairly local group. I've got one of their albums (I managed to stumble into their release party), and I've seen both of them for sale at a local music store. I'll keep my eyes open and grab some official copies for you if I see 'em. Also, they've got a (somewhat out of dadte) website at www.geocities.com/missjuly . On the FAQ it notes that you can buy the albums directly from the band.
from mothertongue :
Hi, I've been reading your diary for about a year, but I'm not so into leaving notes. Well, I didn't used to be, but now I am more and more. This is irrelevant. I just wanted to say that I sympathize with everything you've been going through the past few months; I can relate. Anyhow, I'm from Chicago (well, OK, that's a lie, I'm from the suburbs, but still) but I haven't lived there since I was the (mental age) of twelve, so it's nice to hear about you talk about cool music venues and such places and then helpful for me to pretend to know where you're talking about and then to use the names of such places in conversations to people not from Chicago to make it seem like I was just a really hip kid who didn't belong in the suburbs. It's not true; I used to worship the Gap. Anyhow, here's to you, and happy valentine's day. Oh, and under NO circumstances feel obliged to read my diary. There's only like two entries in it because it's a new one I recently started. I hate when people used to leave me notes and then I'd read their diaries and think of how lame those people were and wonder why they read MY diary and if that made me lame by association. But then, I shopped at the Gap and listened to New Kids on the Block, so I have many issues. Here's to you, happy Valentine's day, and apologies for the long irrelevant note.
from anne-jumps :
Heyyyy! Jump, Little Children know the Nields!
from lilacgirl :
cha!! a psuedo midwestern mike?!?!?! ooohhhh.... tell me more....
from krazywithak :
Good luck with getting a job! I think you'll get it cause you're just like too cool to let go.

Jane Eyre = awesome! But yeah, I knew that already. :)
from emogrrrl :
ouch, here's hoping the cramps improve.
from heidiann :
Yo, Kat, drop that zero and get with the hero.
from heidiann :
HA! You're back! I must now commence happy dance!
from mocksie :
I'll miss you. :( I can't access lj from work, and I don't spend much time online from home. Come back soon!
from emogrrrl :
i'll read the other diary - but i am gonna miss you at dland, still :(
from busy-milkman :
Did you construct the house you are standing in front of? Lynn
from mystical76 :
Oh, don't get me started on Care First!!! I know, I work for a health insurance company, but they burn me up!!!
from miss-edith :
Good luck on catching some zzzzs. I know that this is only too typical coming from me, but as a veteran insomniac, I find that cleaning the hell out of the bedroom and changing the sheets makes it easier to sleep. Just an idea. There are also yoga poses that help. I think that shoulder stand is good. Anyway, I know what it feels like, so good luck!
from rachelliz :
Hey Carey...The Bus song makes me think of mmmmarcia's bus journey. If you're interested, look at her entries for 12/18 and 12/22. Just thought I'd share.
from mocksie :
"but everyone who reads this is a domestic goddess who regularly creates gourmet meals from scratch" is what you said... Umm, Carey? Did you forget that *I* read your diary? :) Your recipe sounds very delicious, and it would be a miracle if I can pull something like that off. There are only two things that I can make that come out decent: mashed potatoes and french toast. Anything else better be delivered to my door or have directions on the box. :) hehe
from miss-edith :
Don't worry honey, you'll get a job. If I am employed, anyone can be.
from mystical76 :
Hahahahaha! I'm certainly NOT a domestic goddess! I can't cook, so that dinner sounds fabulous (and like something that I would end up ruining).
from scaryemilie :
if i can find another one, i'll send it to you!! :)
from rachelliz :
Thank you so much for the CD! Now I know who Da Vinci's Notebook is. And I like! It's mostly stuff I don't know so this will be more concerts for me to seek out. I'm completely bonding with Shake It Away.

from daisyfaerie :
howdy! fancy meeting you here!
from mangofarmer :
Happy New Year to you too. I for one am all about the chocolate. :)
from lilacgirl :
okey dokey. i will get right on that. *thinksthinksthinks*
from lilacgirl :
yay carey!!!!!!!! would you prefer a tape or a cd?
from glitterkick :
What are you like 3 feet tall or something? Whatever, I'll be freakishly tall enough for the both of us to keep you on my favorites list. Happy freakin' new year!
from rachelliz :
Thanks for siting me and copying me. It was the weight watcher leader's idea you know. And assuming you grow a few inches, I won't leave you in 2003. Haha!
from obi-lass :
Hi! Great diary you've got there! Thanks so much for letting me join the trombone ring! The guy I love play the trombone. I luv 'em. I, myself, play the tenorhorn. Know what that is? Anyway, I noticed that you too, liked Ben Folds. He/They're great!! Well, that's all I've got for now:) Thx for posting a note at my die-ary :) ~Luvness, Obi-Lass aka Ine
from rachelliz :
I understand the good and the bad. As long as you can keep coming back to the good, you'll be okay. Good luck!
from heidiann :
YAY!! You're so sweet! I can't wait! I'm also going crazy with the exlamation marks!
from emogrrrl :
i'll be sure to check it out. i still can't believe another girl (besides me) likes mst3k.

yes! mary ann and willow! i do understand that. it's unnerving to see the character you identified with change that dramatically.
from miss-edith :
I thought I was already sending you one maybe? I know I had one planned, but I guess I was a bit mixed up. Anyway, gingerpeople are on their way. Or they will be by Thursday. Friday at the latest.
from mystical76 :
Oh, getting sucked into both Target & Borders? I have the same problem!!! (I think it's an evil Target/Borders gnome that has power over us all. Hey, it could happen!)
from tinyelf :
OH my gosh, how could they have NOT included those in your John Denver and Muppets CD??? I am SO there with you on the whole "it's not christmas if I'm not listening to the music while decorating the tree/house/etc." I bought my CD 2 or 3 years ago. Before it was re-released, I got the Strangest Looks on peoples' faces when I asked for it. They just don't know the joy.
from cdenise :
I noticed on amazon.com there are two versions of this CD - the "cutout" that has the songs you want and the "newer" $5.98 version that's missing those three songs. No one seems to point that out in the reviews about the missing three songs. That's a shame! Those songs are a staple to that Christmas CD! (I bought mine when it was first released on CD...so I can't complain *g*) But then there is always the LP. :)
from rachelliz :

I am so incredibly jealous of you. I hope next spring when I move up north to join "Leon" things will go as smoothly for us. I'm glad you are so happy-- you deserve it. SEB
from mangofarmer :
Those things do sound very good. I'm glad you're happy. :)
from mocksie :
Goovie... your thoughts are what mine were a year and a half ago. You'll be fine-- the two of you will be fine. Trust me on this one. I've been there. :) Be HAPPY!
from crion :
Yeah, I'm quitting my job on Friday and looking forward to being able to relax properly. Of course, when I get back to school, it's going to be work and stress and studying from day one until the last final, with maybe enough time to read one book for fun. Speaking of which, I read Microserfs sometime back in high school; it's an excellent book, but it felt a little odd in some places.
from glitterfaery :
Welcome home! :) Lots of hugs to you and Neal. Send me your address when you get a chance, please.
from theghostgirl :
COBRA is crap. The only people it works for are the people with enough money they don't need to panic about having insurance. The drugs companies are bloodsuckers.
from heffysangels :
WELCOME TO THE MIDWEST!!! *hugs* now we can finally meet! wooohooo love Erica
from mystical76 :
Um, I lived in Catonsville until 2 months ago & my new b/f lived in Randallstown (well, practically Eldersburg) until 10 days ago. So I sometimes passed Papa Jeeeeeee's on the way there. Now, I live in Glen Burnie & he lives in Elkridge. And of course we figure this out once you move...isn't that the way things go? :P
from mystical76 :
Is this the one on Liberty Rd? Or is there another one? Greg & I have a whole script now..."Papa JEEEEEE" "Heeheehee...same colors, same sign, people will think it Papa John's." "Nobody know difference." All in a horrible pseudo-foreign accent.
from mystical76 :
You did not just say: Papa JEEEEEEEEE!!! Do you mean that Papa John's knockoff? Cause we (i.e. me & man) are always laughing about that & making jokes, etc. And if someone else (you) cracks up about the same things, life will be perfect.
from scaryemilie :
hey carey! lookit! i'm on the danradcliffe diaryring! ;) and it's got a spiffy pic too! :D
from epiphany :
I love the name "Xander." Is that weird? I have an affinity for Z and X names, probably because of the alliteration with my last name. So, how old was the kid? There are a couple of actors named Xander (Xander Berkeley on 24, and I think someone on Buffy, right?), but I think that's the first I had ever heard of it.
from lady4eyes :
Hi, and welcome to the Boondocks diaryring! Power to the people!
from twilight-- :
I've read Mrs Dalloway, and am a fan of Woolf, have you seen the movie The Hours yet?
from mangofarmer :

from ladyloo :
Two more weeks! Two more weeks! I'm very excited for you!
from mangofarmer :
Mmmm. Red meat. And fried things. Good stuff.
from krazywithak :
Thanks for saying Hi. And yes I am the red-headed boy :). It's a fun title to have.
from panther00 :
my God is this bizarre. someone who graduated from my alma mater on diaryland. I really miss college. much better than the disillusioned world of corporate BS i live in. i feel your pain, my sister. check out my diary and drop me a line if you like.
from rachelliz :
Can I anti-COBRA you? I HATE COBRA. It is more a joke than unemployment. And what's worse, who can afford COBRA while living on umemployment??? I'll tell you who: people who don't pay rent!
from lilacgirl :
i'll write you a guest entry
from twilight-- :
thanks for the welcome :)
from ladyloo :
Canada would welcome a sweet and brilliant girl with open arms.
from mangofarmer :
Be happy! You've got library books to read. :)
from heidiann :
They should call it Roundtine.

from siopup :
this sounds cliche, but i like your diary. and your banner is quite okay.
from addieplum :
why, thank you! i see we are fellow fruvous fans...
from miss-edith :
Thanks for reading! And even more thanks for leaving me a note. Keep coming back now OK?
from faithnomore :

from emogrrrl :
Dude, I MST shows all the time. Its like totally awesome man. *I'm in a valley girl mood today*
from rachelliz :
I already read you, so I'm not exciting. But I saw your banner ad and I have that Nields CD on right now! It's so weird. Hehe.
from candora :
for an alien who doesn't fit in with humans anyway, anyhow, anywhere, you sure have attracted a lot of fans and have lots of favorite reads here... is diaryland the secret sanctuary for us?... do they know?... I must find time to explore more (now that I have the list, yes, the list)... it must mean something when I click on your banner add and your banner add is at the top of your profile, jst two pages later, right?... I want to pick navel lint with you while we discuss the foibles and follies of humanity and how we use laugh therapy to survive.. do you understand?... feel free to explain.
from ladyloo :
Don't worry too much about the packing. It's amazing how much you can get done between 9pm and 2am the night before. It's the boxes you should be collecting now. ;)
from paper-rose :
Saw your banner and poked my head in 'cause I know Epiphany adores you. Gotta tell you, you're about 5,000 words ahead of me. Keep plugging along!
from mangofarmer :
Well I thought today's entry was interesting. :)
from emogrrrl :
Hey girlie! You are slightly ahead of me -- I'm going to change that soon. Being that I'm sick and all, I'm going to use today as my catch up day. One question I wanted to ask ya - is that you in the picture? If so, you look exactly like my co-workers girlfriend. :) Later gator, Michelle
from inthemiddle :
You're prettier than I am.
from heidiann :
Oh oh oh! I LOVE Young Sherlock Holmes!! So I freely share in your shame. =)
from heidiann :
Hee hee! I won't tell a soul!
from emogrrrl :
they may be "fruit" flys. we had that problem once. if you have any fruit laying out that might be where they are coming from. also, plants can sometimes spawn those little pests. if you can't find out where its coming from, i know my parents bought this "bug spray bomb" kinda thing. it goes off (you have to stay out of the area for an hour or something) and it kills all those little things. very effective :)
from thefritz :
as far as tonight's show... if you need a place to crash i live about 5 min away from the college.... as far as moving help... i'll have to check my calender... take care -Fritz
from heidiann :
I swear, if I never have to go on Monster.com again I will die a happy woman.
from athena98122 :
mmmmm . .i love wonder boys. the film, the book, the soundtrack. i haven't traded up to the dvd yet because i got the vhs copy for cheap as a previously rented.
from athena98122 :
i am so jealous of the mcsweeney's vs tmbg show .. you have no idea. i have unending love for ira glass. and i know i had something else to say but it's gone now. grr. argh.
from heidiann :
Hmmm...glitter nail polish, Block books, and singing along to horrid pop music...good god you've basically summarized my entire life! Yet I realize it's not for everyone. I am crossing my fingers that we both find job happiness and SOON!
from glitterfaery :
i vote for chicago being in the midwest. hell, half of pennsylvania (and half of maryland for that matter) are in the midwest. besides, chicago is meat-packing town, and that's a sure sign of midwestiness.<br><br>if the stereotypes get you down, may i suggest a field trip to Madison WI, which is possibly the coolest small city on the planet.
from mystical76 :
OK, I only lived in Chicago for about 6 weeks many years ago. But the people there (in general) are even meaner than East Coasters. So I don't consider Chicago part of the midwest--it's more like the western tangent of the East Coast.
from lilacgirl :
chicago is midwest, but i dont think you can call them that. do not bitch about midwest stereotypes.... we all know youre really an east coaster. =) god, i cant wait until you move out here. erica and i are excited. we can go to concerts and do.... i dont know stuff.... i mean, you still wanna meet us right?
from heidiann :
Eating a chocolate orange while spending the day in pajamas! Double mmmmmmmm.

from heidiann :
Mmmmm...pajama days.
from emogrrrl :
Thanks...I love "The N!" on Noggin. I watch it everynight -> Degrassi, Daria, Being Eve, Clarissa, Pete -n- Pete and 24 Seven. I love your diary too by the way. It's delicious :) ~Michelle
from ladyloo :
I read the first book in the pullman book...on Tuesday. All of it. I can't read the next one until I have packed at least ten boxes.
from corran :
I see, that we share not only the love of folk-music, but of Kevin Smith movies. See you at the Quick-Stop.
from heidiann :
I still re-read Harriet the Spy every month. It's the same copy I've had since grade shcool. Torn, dog-eared, and ink stained...which just proves how very much it has been loved. =)
from epiphany :
Thanks for the note back. That's awesome. Did she play "El Dorado" ("My demons are back/ and they're so convincing")? I'm sure she did. God, do I love that song. Anyhow, I forgot to tell you, but I booked your guy based on your recommendation. Check out the website. He'd better be good! :)
from epiphany :
I'm so jealous about you able to see Sam's show. Did she plug this one? I sent her fliers... did you talk with her? I hope you can make it to the show next Sat. As usual, I'm freaking out about attendance. I might even have reason to this time.
from athena98122 :
heyheyhey. tales is just on vhs for now, so i don't have it, but i do have more and further tales. and i'm serious about sending 'em to you if you can't find them out there. just frum me :D
from ghostfox :
His Dark Materials, yeah!! I'm slightly rabid in my praise for that at the moment.

You lucky duck! I adore Betty White!

It's so frustrating and demeaning losing your job...even when you dind't like the job! I had the strange work dreams for awhile too. Now I keep having dreams that they invite me in and offer me a job for more money. Ha! Like that'll ever happen.
from near-sighted :
go kick some booty in chicager.
from happypumpkin :
Yeah... 6 degrees of Buffy isn't really all that difficult. The challenge lies in getting to the show without passing Reese Witherspoon. I actually didn't notice either of them the first few times I saw the movie. Course, I can't remember if they were actually on the show when the movie came out. She noticed Jonathon right away, but I pointed out Riley later. I hope Jonathon comes back at least once this season. I kinda liked him. He was a cute little nerdy dude. Kay, I'm done rambling. Happy day!
from athena98122 :
word to lori and betsy. this is the perfect example of all of those cliches about change. go west! *hugs*
from glitterfaery :
what I was going to say, it seems betsy already has said. i'm sorry the job didn't work out at all, but since you did hate it so much, it's probably better that the ties are severed and you move on. . . following your heart to chicago.
from lilacgirl :
*hugs* this is perfect, carey. you leave stupid ol' B,M and you come out to the midwest. we're nice out here. and erica and i will help you move. perfect, see?
from crion :
Happy birthday, goovie! I'd say more but I can't think of anything to say. But the sentiment is there. Or here. Yeah.
from scaryemilie :
*gasp* i want blue's clues band-aids! mememe! *rushes off to superdrug* :)
from linda-poo :
happy birthday goovie! have a great year, and if not...kick some ass buffy-style. ;)
from mangofarmer :
Happy birthday!!! And good luck with whatever you decide to do. If you move to Chicago, maybe you can meet Ferris Bueller. He's my hero. ;)
from scaryemilie :
are your band-aids even better than action man band-aids? or simpsons band-aids? is that possible? :D
from mayalin :
What on earth are you waiting for?
from athena98122 :
go go go go go go go
from scaryemilie :
my god, that's exactly what i was going to say :) DO IT. get out of there, and get happy in magical chicagoland. (((hugs))) *^_^*
from lilacgirl :
do it!!!!!! erica and i need new neighbors. go. *push*
from mocksie :
GO, goovie. GO and DO IT. No regrets. GO. And good luck.
from no-ordinary :
I can't believe you're reading _Mrs. Dalloway_. I just finished that on Saturday.
from bluecharis :
Hey goovie! Thanks for creating the folk music ring, how about a Paul Simon ring? Greetings from Germany, Charis :-)) PS: I like your picture. Did you put it up specially for the Halloween season?
from epiphany :
Hey Goovie - I've thought about Andrew Kerr before. About Kevin So... does he do a song called "In the shadow of Ellis Paul" or something like that? I heard it on the radio the other day, and had no idea who it was - I just know he's Asian because it was a line in the song. Thanks for the recommendations, btw.
from lalagirl15 :
Thank you for allowing me to join the Gamera ring...maybe joining diary rings will get people to read my diary, though I just started it and only have a few messages on it!
from intheory27 :
Welcome to the English Majors d*ring. :) You have a fantabulous layout and great ideas to match. Wonderful to have you!

Muppet radio is a powerfully addictive little online radio station. There are songs from the muppet show, sesame street, fraggle rock, all the muppet movies... You can find it here: http://www.muppetcentral.com/radio/index.shtml Especially enjoyable after a long, stressful day of being a grown-up...

from heidiann :
1. Thank you for joining the Beauty is Me and Christmas Story diary rings. 2. Your comment about me being all kinds of cool made me so happy you couldn't even imagine. 3. I'm jealous that Joey McIntyre invades your dreams. 4. It is my goal to read every single one of your entries. That is all. xo, Heidi
from crion :
One? I got three! -The Green World-, -The Honesty Room-, and -End of the Summer-. I had semi-legal (*ahem*burnt copies*cough*) copies until yesterday, but Dar, I think, is worth spending money on. Now I just need to find a store that has -Mortal City- in stock.
from heidiann :
Oh dear. I am so loving your diary. Alas, this is a bad thing for I am at work. And tomorrow I will be all alone...which means a day full of goovie archives. Sigh, this is not very conducive to my work ethic. Oh well! Back to goovie I go!
from dramoth :
Thanks, goovie, for taking the Chicago survey. You sound like a totally interesting person with the little known music and the estrogen writing interests, to name a few.
from purplemystic :
Hey goovie! Thanks for the note. Blather from strangers is always nice :). I really do appreciate your trying to calm my college fears; the advice was great. Thanks again. (Sadly, I have no hand for writing wonderfully long notes like you)
from neko-carre :
Hey, thanks for stopping by and leaving me a nice note! Interesting thought you have about if muscians we follow think/talk about us as we do them. Heh - my friend and I used to write long, elaborate novels about A Certain Band (I won't say who) and ourselves. You know, like in a relationship. HA! We were young, we were infatuated. It's over now. (Ahem.) And they have no idea we even exist.
from rachelliz :
Thanks for referencing me in your diary goovie! Especially with the adjective "very cool" Hehe.
from scaryemilie :
woo! you have paul simon! way cool! :D
from madrigalblue :
Thanks for checking out my diary. Yes, the webring is awesome! I really dig your diary, too. I'll add it to my faves:) Have a nice day! Peace.
from beatpoetgrrl :
hey, i was at frff as well! just wanted to tell you that. how does one come by a recording of the wake-up call? best one i've heard so far. take care, -bpg
from mystical76 :
Great! Now I'll be saying "rock 'em, sock 'em robots" for the next three weeks! (That was just too too funny!!!) By the way, I've been reading your diary for the past couple of weeks & I love it. You're intelligent, witty, and absolutely amazing...I just wish I had the expressive genius that you possess!
from mangofarmer :
Actually I think what Nickelodeon needs to do instead of what ever they show at nighttime nowadays is show classic stuff from the '80s and '90s. Clarissa, Pete and Pete, Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude, Welcome Freshmen.. (am I a geek yet?) and of course, my all-time favorite, You Can't Do That on Television!
from mangofarmer :
Yay early '90s. Clarissa was my hero! I loved that show. And I don't care what anyone says, "No Rain" is my all-time favorite song. If you're "pathetic" (which I highly doubt), then I am too. :)
from glitterfaery :
dang, girl, you're too speedy for me. how did you know i was contemplating starting a folkie ring, like, yesterday? i put aside the thought until i could think of a "clever" description ... and there you go one-upping me. *sigh* so i guess i'll be a joiner again ... :)
from no-ordinary :
Yay! Another member of my diaryring! The first person I don't actually know in real life! Hoorah!
from epiphany :
Goovie - Just sent you an e-mail with house concert details. hope to see you there! -mm

(through jaci) Is your picture from Never Never Land? (wistful smile) I treasured vague memories from when I went there when I was about three, and whenever we went to Pt. Defiance we never went back. I should take my girlfriend there. Which reminds me - I'll cause the worrying to make up for you and Jaci.
from mangofarmer :
No problem, I clicked on your banner, saw the impressive cast for your movie, and I was hooked. :) I'm going through maaajor marching band withdrawal actually. My problem is, too many of my friends are still in band at school, my sister is in her high school marching band, and yeah. I'm surrounded by band geeks. Which doesn't help on the road to recovery. ;)
from epiphany :
So, Goovie, did you get the House Concert message? Know if you're coming? Hope you do!
from mocksie :
Hey, thanks for *making* the dvnfans ring! :) hsuuuu indeed!
from uberjnet :
god, the devil and sheep? pure genius!! sometime i should tell you about my "christopher walken's romeo and juliet: the making of christopher walken's romeo and juliet".
from scaryemilie :
thank you! :) and, HSUUUUUUUUUUU! :D okie, off to copy and paste html snippet. *grin*
from scaryemilie :
ooh! you have a banner! i saw it! yay! :)
from scaryemilie :
gah. it took me all that time just to pick out one voice... and i have *no* idea which voice belongs to which DVN bloke :D ooh, if you could point it out for me, i'd be most grateful *grin* :) and i joined the DVN yahoogroup! yaaay! *dances* :D
from horvendile :
The ad for you as a stalker is the best entry ever
from scaryemilie :
heehee, like the dubbing was so bad (naturally), and instead of having kids' voices for the kids, they had adults doing high-pitched squeaky voices, which sounded just totally screwed! hehehe :D
from scaryemilie :
yeah! that's the show! :) oh, i feel a simpsons quote coming on... 'Lisa: All right! It's time for ABC's "TGIF" lineup! Bart: Lis, when you get a little older, you'll learn that Friday is just another day between NBC's "Must See Thursday" and CBS' " Saturday night craporama."' heh :D
from horvendile :
I vote for the cute redhead with the creep old man.
from cdenise :
I hate when employers try to intimidate the employees with that garbage. Just reading that ticks me off & makes my blood boil. (I don't know if you want profanity in your notes section so I'll hold off on it *g*) You are so much better than that. One day, you will tell them where to stick it. =) Don't let them get the better of you. You are better than them, smarter than them and doggone it, people like you! [/stuart smalley] :)
from horvendile :
That little girl is still very smart. It's the job that is stupid. Talk about being overqualified.
from gallinula :
At work there's this guy named Skippy, he's the 5 o'clock news producer. A coupla weeks ago there supposedly was a memo that nobody was to ever call him "Skippy" again. Now we're supposed to call him "Ben", which is his actual name. All in the name of professionalism -- how fun is that?
from mocksie :
damn. you said it.
from lilacgirl :
i know. =( if i ever get myself out there, will you promise to come visit me? i swear to god and all things holy, i am going to meet you someday. or, it might be that you get to chicago first. in that case, i'll help you move, i dont have much else to do. unless i have to work. *rips medical terminology book in two*
from scaryemilie :
yaaaaaaaaayy! you got my parcel! i'm so glad you actually got it! damn things always get lost in the post. i'm still waiting for the worms cd i ordered about 3 weeks ago... stoopid royal mail :P
from nictate :
hi goovie- i hope you enjoy "full frontal" as much as i did. i haven't seen "schizopolis" yet, but i mean to. i also need to see "kafka." bye, nictate
from lilacgirl :
dude, i loved daphne's book when i was little.
from glitterkick :
Have a fabulous vacation! And how could you not? You've got underwear AND granola bars, from Target no less, what more could you need?
from chauffi :
Thanks for filling out my survey. And I've never met anyone that's even SEEN Schizopolis, let alone like it. That movie rocks! And have a great time at FFRF.
from lilacgirl :
dude, it's gonna be awesome! im very excited to meet you too. that's one of the reasons i used when i was making my case. "ive got all these friends ive never met and i.........blahblahblah" =)i can't wait!
from scaryemilie :
woooow, i had *no* idea you knew that epiphany guy ('cause i'm just stoopid). he has a cool diary! you guys rock! :D
from thefritz :
YAY! thanks hon. Can't wait to get it. You just gave me a well needed smile. Thanks Sooo much -Fritz
from oggydoggy :
That is *so* cool about the Budgiedome concert! Damn, I wish I was going to FRFF. Stupid far-away cool happenings....*wah, pout, whine*
from epiphany :
Yo! Have you been to the book thing yet? (thebookthing.org). You should definitely check it out. So, are we getting together with polishstreak soon or what?
from mocksie :
I would *love* a GoovieTape, and I'd send a MocksieTape in return, if you'd like. :)
from athena98122 :
want tape want tape want tape! :D
from ladyloo :
Goovie-lady I would *love* a mixed tape!!! Me and my car bond over mixed tapes, but my music collection has grown too much in the last few years. Hmmm, in reciprocation I'd....I'd figure out something, believe me.
from mocksie :
yay for you! happy anniversary! =D
from lilacgirl :
im sorry about your fish. *hugs*
from mocksie :
I'm sorry your fishie died, goovie. :(
from ladyloo :
Goovie! You're adorable!!
from athena98122 :
it's pretty! yay! *applause*
from chinacat :
i still have the dream where i'm about to take a final for a class i haven't been to all semester, too. i didn't realize it until i read it in your diary just now, but i do. i wake up in a panic and i don't remember why. hell, yeah. it's that stupid history or calculus class (always one of those 2 subjects) that i haven't attended in months. never mind that i haven't taken a final exam in 9 years.
from lilacgirl :
hey, you know, my roommate got her job in the publishing industry by going through the phone book and sending a resume to every publishing company in indianapolis. maybe it's worth a shot for you too. just a suggestion. i'd like you to move to chicago. we'd practically be neighbors. *nods*
from horvendile :
Today's was the best entry ever. You played "Fell in Love"
from horvendile :
This spending the day in the mailroom must not happen again. The most important part of your job description is keeping me entertained. The second most important part is keeping Lawrence entertained. Don't they know that?
from athena98122 :
wow. are you sure you're not working at my office, where all of a sudden it's part of Good Internal Customer Service to spend the day in the file room? it's so much fun to take out a staple. count the pages in the packet. write number in corner. rinse. repeat. we. deserve. better.
from coronakym :
thanks for joining the eloise ring!
from freshjoy :
i want to know you. preferably friend goovie. :) I am from maryland also
from horvendile :
You just said you are Rubik's cube so I'd like you!
from mocksie :
beautiful. i may steal this entry format from you. :)
from epiphany :
I once booked Ellen Rosner at the coffeehouse I ran in college. I enjoyed her stuff - very intense. I haven't been in touch in years, though. - The Name Dropper PS - Did I tell you about my house concert on Saturday, May 17? I bet you'd enjoy it. It's Kristin Plater (www.kristinplater.com) and she's good.
from athena98122 :
1) "we read to know that we are not alone". i read for all of it though. to see where i am, to see where i've been, to see where i'm going, to see where i definitely do not want to go. and 2) thank you. i'm discovering the game is all mental. the more time i spend telling myself i'm tuff the more likely i am to believe it. and live it.
from epiphany :
Hey... I stumbled across your diary and am glad I did. A few things: First, my friend is opening up for Davinci's Notebook on May 11 at the Bottom Floor. She's really good; don't miss her. Second, I host house concerts once a month. You should come. http://www.msu.edu/~miazgama/holdenslair.htm. Third, I'm seeing Patty Griffin in just a few hours and I'm excited. Take care.
from oggydoggy :
You and Neal started "getting together" during Online Romance Week? You guys will have to celebrate this year, now that you know it's an official thing *g*
from mocksie :
*I* would like you to write an entry for me, like me... I actually had asked for entries like that months ago.. only got one :( But *I* would love it. :)
from athena98122 :
ooh! oooh! chicklit article! idea! tell! (yeah, i'm a little excited) *grin*
from omri :
What is this "batnose"?
from thefritz :
Just happened by, read a few entries and will be back to read more. Take Care -Fritz
from horvendile :
Just to put it on the record. You matter a lot to me! OK you knew that. OK everybody the knows us knew it too. But just in case there was one person who didn't I figured I'd say it.
from horvendile :
Your words are never stupid and your hugs help more than you can ever know.
from tulsa :
oOOoPs! I mean the thing with your brothers AND family over Easter. Duh.
from tulsa :
Carey --

Fabulous entry on the . . . uh, thing with your brothers family this Easter. Nice fulmination, without coming off like some low-rent Carrie Nation! Wonderfully written and very funny -- just the right touch.

from bobbipuzel :
Awwwwww wonderful diary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lovely lovely!
from mocksie :
Peter Tork!??! You met Peter Tork!?!? I hate you!!! :)
from mocksie :
Hell yeah Starland Vocal Band... o/~ Aaaaaaafternoon delight! o/~ I shamelessly *love* that song. :)
from wanjack :
Hi Carey, We don't know each other well, but I've been reading through some of this today, and it makes me wish I knew you better. You rock. Truly. Melinda
from glitterfaery :
Care, I'm not going to argue with all your self-doubts because that's pointless -- not being able to win that argument *with yourself* is why you're in therapy, and it doesn't really matter what anyone tells you about how kickass you are if you can't feel it. But your misgivings regarding that good guy you're with -- please, please don't allow your harsh internal voice to create some sort of self-fulfilling prophecy. Try to trust the notion that other people can and do find you likeable and lovable, even if your internal voice hasn't progressed that far, and that he's with you *because* he likes you and loves you. I hope that wasn't an overdose of snotty clueless advice. :)
from polishstreak :
Nice entry. I'm terribly sorry you had to grow up in western MD. I think something about zoning laws keep all the rednecks confined to Frederick and St. Mary's Counties. Glad you escaped to the city-- next time your at the Inner Harbor, blow the water a kiss from me.
from mocksie :
re: classmates thing... That, my dear goovie... was beautiful. Beautiful, and classic, and right. on. =D
from chinacat :
shit, i'm 32 and i still try on prom dresses. if you're going to do something as unpleasant as go to the mall, you might as well get SOME fun out of it.
from oggydoggy :
There are Holy Grail dolls??? Or "action figures"...or whatever ;-D Me want.
from bobbipuzel :
WONDERFUL DIARY!!!!!! ;o) MEEP MEEP! hehe... Have a nice day!!!!!!!!
from mocksie :
I certainly hope that if you do, indeed, find FRFF to be a big mess of lonliness and despair, that you come and search me & my party out, and we'll try to remedy that for you. FRFF is so beautiful... you *better* enjoy it. :) -m
from glitterscars :
Good luck with the drugs. I hope you feel better :)
from athena98122 :
you should go. because it's eric.
from mocksie :
Damn, goovie. How do you get inside my head like that?? (re: alternate realities)
from mocksie :
"Say it all, say it all... Say, somebody's got to say it all." ~Cake. Carey, you just said it all, as usual. Bravo, and thank you.
from mocksie :
Camp-Ins at the Franklin Institute! hell yeah Human Heart... and there was dancing, too in that big hall... all the girl scouts getting down to some bad DJ... those were the days. or not. :)
from omri :
Dear Groovie: I think, at some point, we were actually brothers, despite the obvious challenge of gender and shared genes and stuff like that. Even though we might not share genes, I am willing to share jeans, although I only own two pairs. They are both a women's size ten, I believe. Let me know. -R.
from weirdncrazy :
cool, i've been a fan since 2000 i think. do you live in va? ooh, they have a tmbg parody? lol, i wanna hear it! cuz tmbg also rock. :D have you met da vinci's?

from edunn :
I got your note :) So, you went to CND, too? I entered in '98, if that helps any. Let me know if there's any faculty you want to hear amusing stories about--between my friends and I, we can probably cover most departments :)
from snidegrrl :
hello, thanks for joining my monkees ring, i was shocked to find that there wasn't one the other night! i might be interested in an online writing group, but i already don't keep up with the projects i have... sigh. anyways, good to read your diary, i see you're in the area, hail beltway. Hi, thanks for putting the Seinfeld diary ring up right away! I hope you're master of your domain!
from lifeblood :
I can see all the rest, but banning Neil Diamond? Come on! Be reasonable. Anyway, just checking out the rest of the Nick Drake fans. Like your diary.
from sidherian :
Stumbled onto your page then followed the link to PMDD. Yeah gods, now I know what's wrong with me! Oh, and your diary is cool too :)
from kgreene :
AACCKK! REM on The Simpsons?!?! How could I miss it?!?! How did this happen?!?! Why am I always the last to know?!?! :( humph... Oh, and Ballet Shoes is the greatest! I think I'd prefer being Pauline to Posy, though :)
from lilybart :
oh, but Ballet Shoes was such a good book! I loved loved loved it and all it's sister shoes books too! Can we start an Amazon reviews writing campaign and give it thousands of stars?
from kgreene :
Amen, sista! I hear you LOUD and clear about the job thing. You put into words better than I can how I feel about my own job. You're not alone!
from oggydoggy :
Carey! Guess I'd better answer you here, what with the hiatus and all ;-) I had never heard of Dirty Linen before (Bad Folkie, No granola *g*) I just saw it at Chapters and thought I'd take a chance that the Worms would be in it. I love seeing them get some American press! The quest for Global Worm Domination continues...... I don't think you're a loser for not approaching the author of the article. I don't think *I* would have either! You don't necessarily want to admit to someone that you overheard their conversation......I mean, they may not take it the way you intend, right?
from hwei :
hi. um. I read this line: "while I have found someone, he's so bloody far away that sometimes it seems I might as well have no one" - and in a terrible, terrible way, I'm sort of glad that I'm not the only one having this stupid, stupid problem. I hate all couples except the good friends I know who have already been together, but even those, you know, they can make you incredibly jealous, like why couldn't he have come here as well to study and be that much closer to you, the way they did? so thanks. see you round.
from oggydoggy :
Hey Carey! Go "passive-aggressive on everyone's ass"! I *love* that! *g* Can I join ya???
from nearlynormal :
Thought you might be amused to know that most of the people I know at UB seem to be channeling you- or at least they were on Thursday. From the weirdos who were defending Barry Manilow ('but he wrote the band-aid song!') to my Feminine Realities teacher who not only is a sort of shy red head, she also gets sidetracked in class by silly trivia- somehow she connected Herland and Sesame Street and started singing "C is for Cookie", to Kate who has a friend who works at Watermark and can also recite the poem about loving monkeys, it was like good neuroworld. And it made me miss you and want to call you, but I knew I'd just lapse into babbling farm noises. Maybe we do still need distance from each other, but I just wanted to share that. And to say that you really are a better person than you seem to think you are.
from merricat :
hey goovie :) i just am letting fellow Eddie From Ohio fans that i started a ring about it. It's "efo". I'm too lazy to make it real fancy right now, but just wanted everyone to know. --merricat
from humcasguard :
I just stumbled upon your page and found myself laughing a little too loud for a library! Feel free to stop by my diary anytime and check it out ~ humcasguard.diaryland.com ~ I'm planning on you becoming a regular read for me, this stuff is great. The quotes page is just too much goodness..... ~Noel Townshend
from ladyloo :
I *LOVE* British Cadbury!! And although I'm not too big on Hobnobs, I'm all about Fox Ginger Creme Cookies! Oh.My.God. They are divine!
from diaryreviews :
Hi! We noticed that you scored an 95 on your diary review, so we want to invite you to join our brand new ring, review-90, exclusively for diarists who scored over 90 on their reviews. We'd love to have you be a part of the ring! :-)

I need to pause from my weirdness just to say that I can't stop laughing over "my ass, my ass, like mama cass is a song-bird of first degree"
from diaryreviews :
Hi! Thanks for submitting your site. Your review is done..we just need to know where your link back is. So let us know and we can post your review!

Welcome to the Pretty in Pink diaryring! *yay for duckie dale!*
from mymichele :
hey, thanks for joining the BSC ring! I liked your entry today, so true about the friendship thing. And I also loved the Sleepover Friends, with their chocolate peanut butter cookies, electric blue oversized sweatshirts, big giant drooly dogs, and red, white, and black color schemes. (yes, I remember way too much about that series)
from ladyloo :
**HUGS*** There's nothing eloquent enough that I can say that will make you stop being down, but know that I just about had a heart attack when I saw that your journal might be finito. For the sake of those that batnose (I don't know what that is but...) never be silent. That's when we all feel the most alone.
from kgreene :
I'm not sure what happened, but you know how I feel on the subject. NEVER let someone make you feel like you should or shouldn't use your voice. I hope all is well. You don't owe anyone an apology, except for yourself for letting others make you feel bad.
from gillysuki :
Love your site. I'm glad you have found osmeone you love, it sounds so great, I wish I had found the 1 for me. Please check out my diary. http://gillysuki.diaryland.com Thanks!

I think you're great, Carey!
from peasantwench :
Reading your entries has been fun. I also want to let you know that your comment about people who count really got me thinking. I'm at work, so thinking doesn't happen too often. Thanks.
from mocksie :
YEAH for no makeup!! :) (occasionally it's okay... but I hear you about the fakeness.) you should join my anti-girl ring :) hee hee
from ravieslave :
Yeah. I prefer the 3:00am insomnia creativity; it gets weird and oogly, but it's generally very ... something. You know?
from mocksie :
Duh! Thornhill! :)
from lilacgirl :
I have an analyzer too. But I'm too stupid to be able to figure out how to link it. Anyway.... =) yeah.
from chinacat :
holy chit! someone else who knows the words to the kinks' "Better Things." wow. wow, is all i can say.

from motorino :
hey carey - thanks for signing my guestbook! i read your site all the time; some of it i don't quite get, but it's well written and you have tons of great insight. keep it up :)
from cicero :
Heh. Carey you are the only link on Gordon's page. That single line in the darkness just beckons to you. I've often clicked on it even though I've recently read your page, and am pretty sure you havn't updated yet. It is just so...... convenient!
from savedbygrace :
Hey....don't worry :). things will get better, I promise. and probably when you least expect it to. I bet you tomorrow will be a beautiful day for you.....just look for it.
from athena98122 :
i send you oh-so-inadequate virtual *hugs* and clichd it-will-all-work-out vibes . . . that i mean with all my heart. get a rhoda scarf for your hair and conquer the world as english majors are meant to do.
from nearlynormal :
i can't come up with anything that tops my last comment about the adrian mole diaries- so i'll just say the thought of reading more entries makes me shiver with an- ti- ci-----pation!
from horvendile :
It was bad enough when the Goovascious one had her own page. Now she has everyone making pages. Even me. In all seriousness reading Mental Notes is part of my daily routine, I look forward to it. Its good to know what your brain is thinking.
from racer96 :
Hiya Carey :) Well, you signed my guestbook, it's the least I can do is read yours and sign it :) And yeah, I'm talking to you on the wall now too :P Mike
