I hope your New Year is beautiful and glorious!
from yarnsmith :
I just now added a new post for the new year and a link to my notes section. Thanks for jumping through the hoops to leave me a note. Now it won't be so much trouble. Happy New Year back.
from yarnsmith :
Merry Christmas to you and your family
from ofenchant :
Thanks Sunn! You too man, and *love* xoxoxo.
from yarnsmith :
I was laughing so hard at your "Burning of Atlanta" story....We use those convenience logs too and once bought a cheap generic brand one...we didn't smoke up the house as we remembered to open the flu but the substance that made it burn smelled like gasoline and it stunk our house up for days. Also got a kick out of the blue toilet. My sister was debating several years ago whether to move from her neighborhood which she felt might be going into decline...she wanted to get out before it actually did decline. Woke up one morning to a toilet in the neighbors front lawn...it stayed there for two weeks before it was gone to wherever toilets on the lawn eventually go...that was the decision making event....they hired a realtor the next day.
from yarnsmith :
Thanks for thinking about me. I do intend some day to put my entries into a new template. My site got hijacked and I lost everything then found I had forgotten all the html I learned and havn't had time to relearn it...Maybe this winter when I am housebound I will fix my site.
from ofenchant :
Thanks! Glad to hear from you and hope your days are filled with hippie-like grooviness! And stuff! Always the stuff. Solid, man. Hehe xoxox.

your comments aint working or are shut off so heres what i wrote: ah! screwy st. louie!! nice town! up from the amtrak station, cross the light rail station, then cross the street; 1/3 the way up the block, on the right hand side of the street is a wonderful mom and pop store, and inside is a colourful old lady that will regale you with stories of the old days, and she just loves out of towners!!

Thankyou for the book suggestions. I have heard of Sue Grafton's books and have them on my "to read" list. The others I haven't heard of but will give them a try. My pet peeve is shallow characters and in Nora Roberts case, it is shallow characters doing nothing but living boring lives. Finally after about 143 pages or so she gets kissed. Whoopie!!! Thanks again.

Just dropping by for a 2006 greeting to ya'.

Well I'm incredible late in replying but the holiday season was good to me. It was quiet as Michael had to work all four of the important nights but we celebrated the next day and night on his day off. This opposite schedule is teaching us to be flexible.

I'm just about done with the "Chronicles." I have the HP book but I, too, have some others to finish reading first. I counted up that I had 15 books and magazines in various states of being read. How did I get into this place?

why thank you.

Thanks for the complement on Mz. Ruby and me.

At first it was hard to get into the book and I have the complete one set of all the stories but know that I'm into it, I can't read fast enough. I think you will enjoy the stories.

We're using the term "notes" for two completely different things. This message is what I consider to be a Diaryland note. If I weren't logged in right now, I wouldn't be able to send this to you.
from fan4 :
Non-diarylanders can't send you Diaryland notes. If they want to contact you, they'll either have to sign your guestbook or send you an e-mail message.
from sapphyr :
Spam DOES stink! But I have to say, that the picture that you selected for your last entry is perfect! I just love Shirley Temple. You have such a beautiful way of smiling through a frustrating situation. :~) Take good care and hopefully, it will be resolved soon! ~Sapphyr

Sometimes what I think versus what I say leaves me feeling like I have a split personality! The most commom responses of: "How frustrating" or "How interesting" often come from the thought "I can't tell you how much I don't care!"
from fan4 :
It sounds like you had a good time with other diary writers. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like for me to meet my online friends...
from h2ophobic :
I am soooo jealous of your meeting last weekend I can hardly stand myself. I have told my family in no uncertain terms that if you ever meet in MT...I'm so there!

hello sunnflower. I enjoy your diary especially the "hug button"!! So cute! Thanks for stopping by mine. Hugs!! Morbidalily @>---
from dinahsoar :
I just stumbled onto your diary & it is truly awesome. Didn't know where to look first. It was kind of like Disneyland - all these different experiences & just so many "E" tickets (don't know if you're familiar with the old Disneyland, but they would give you a ticket book & you could only go on just so many "E" rides). I loved your "Cast". Are you Donna Reed or Shelly Fabares? I also love the Alice in Wonderland stuff & the gazing ball in the garden. Your writing is very vivid & I really like your witty perspective. Thanks for the adventure!
from wordsofmine :
Good evening. I'm having trouble with my site and what I see is what you had written earlier. I hope Andrew responds soon. Hope all is well with you.

"Lo, sifted through the winds that blow, Down comes the soft and silent snow, White petals from the flowers that grow In the cold atmosphere." ~ George W. Bungay ~ Your words of praise dance upon the fabric of my mind, not unlike snowflakes gracefully flittering in Winters air. Being on the receiving end of your sincere compliments of my diary's template and its contents, was a wonderful addition to my day. Your comments buoyed my spirits. I thank you for leaving me such lovely words of esteem. I am so pleased that you like my site and I thank you for your support. May your day brim over with beauty.
from a-rosewithin :
Hi Sunnflower. Regarding comments:: I just took my comments page down. Previously, I had a little message up, letting others know that it was not working correctly since the last DL crash; however, I took it down a couple of days ago. The layout and fonts, among other things, were all askew. So I opted to take it down all together. Because of your note, I placed the comments message back up. Alas, it is still not working; however, I am truly ok with that. //\\//\\ I am most pleased that you have enjoyed stopping by and even more thrilled that you encouraged me to place up a comments page, in that you believe my letters warrant a comment. So thank you. The thought was very sweet and it left a smile. //\\//\\ In regards to yesterday's entry...Thank you! It was the sweetest of messages left for me - those little things we do for each other that help define our moments, if not an entire day! //\\//\\ Sunflower, my wish for you this evening, is that you enjoy your favorite cup of tea over soul stirring and silly conversation with a wonderful friends or a cherished loved one! Love from afar yet near in Heart, ~ Shannon
from katiedoyle :
:) thank you!
from a-rosewithin :
Thank you for stopping and mentioning the banner. Those were all created by my friend as a gift to share with others - she is a talented artist and a wonderful, generous and inspiring friend.//\\//\\ Beautiful pictures/photos that you have shared on your diary - you are blessed to be surrounded by so much Beauty!! I so enjoyed reading 49 things; your site, [alone], is very calming, yet playful, charming and sweet with fun stuff/links and ideas to explore. Notes from others are playful as well and I love the name Sunflower.diaryland. My favorite little message at the bottom of IE is this: "curiouser and curiouser, cried Alice Cute! To be ever curious - leads to amazing adventures and amazing people! //\\//\\ Thank you also, for leaving a tiny piece of yourself behind in my guestbook and a link to discover more.//\\//\\ My wish for you today, is that you have and create a day full of passion and mischief! May you enjoy all the Beauty you are surrounded with today and may you enjoy all those that enjoy the Beauty you share here - shared reflections of a Sunflower ... on an Island. //\\//\\ Love from afar yet near in Heart, ~ Shannon

Thanks for the note - I think I found your diary thru Forty-Plus originally. I totally indentified with your recent entry about time - I am always looking at the clock, my son said to me the other day that I always 'put a time' on things, like when I will take the dogs out, make a phone call etc...I hadn't even realised! I guess we all need a few extra hours in the day.... take care! xxxx

Hi Sunflower...here is the things we have in common. You asked. :) Im blessed with three kids and they are way cooler than I ever was when I was their age. I write poetry I always go to sleep to the sound of the surf - courtesy of a mini-sound machine Get me to the water ocean, bay, river, canal, pond, birdbath. Being around water is a major stress reducer for me I like the sound of wind and rain on the roof when its late and Im in for the night. I love to read the magazines you pick up at the check-out counter like Womans World and even sometimes (shhh!!) the National Enquirer. I always have room for one more book on my shelves. I admire my kids "I am a cancer survivor" My mom is a breast cancer survivor, I walked the road with her from day one, through radiation, then to chemo. I understand from a loved ones perspective. My motto is: Have coffee; successfully navigate the day "I tend to stay up way too late at night and invariably regret it in the mornings" I am a night worker so reverse this. I stay up way too late in the am regret at night during my 12 hour shift. I try to recite the 23rd Psalm every day and really think about what each line means. I think old sit coms can give you a lift I love roses growing in a garden I drink tea, hot and cold, without any sugar or lemon. I have an iced tea addiction that wont quit as soon as the summer kicks in..(Kill the lemon) I love an island theme its just so fun I enjoy romantic comedies classic and current I think reading about the lives of the Saints is fascinating. I watch at least one version of The Christmas Carol every year. I get a kick out of the Disney Channel and believe it is a great idea to hit the Disney animated films when they come out in the theaters (I worked at Disney in Orlando for five years) thing big band music is energizing. Ill ditch proteins for carbs, given half the chance I have a little collection of Saint statutes nestled on a high bookshelf to inspire me I wait for the crocuses to come up in the winter to remind me that Spring really is right around the corner. I hate cold weather I talk on the cell phone too much "I still miss having my best friend just a drive away and she moved out of state about 20 years ago" I moved four years ago I like to think I really do have a guardian angel. Sandyz...still enjoying your diary.

OH DEAR! Are you okay?! I too have been a (frequent) victim of "the slings and arrows of outrageous fashion." :~D (Remember my entry: "Watch out Mothra ?") When I was an intern, I slipped and fell down the stairs during the lunch hour. I was wearing new shoes too! I was carrying an arm load of files. All of my files went flying and I rolled down the stairs until I hit the landing. My skirt ended up by my chest and everyone saw my arse. My friend Paula was laughing so hard she end up on the floor beside me laughing. It was priceless!
from katiedoyle :
are you in a red or blue state? i live in a blue one (california), in a pretty blue city (la), and I got PLENTY of abuse for my Kerry sticker and support. most of the people i have recently cut off contact with gave me crap for a double whammy: being for kerry and living in california. i catch a lotta crap from people in texas for being out here, because you know, only airheads and stoners live in los angeles. so i know what you mean when you say it gets old. i caught a LOT of it this time around. no other election in my lifetime was this horrendous. i'm sorry to hear i contributed to it. i'll try to be more open in future political posts. kd
from katiedoyle :
while i have strong feelings and convictions, i am not - contrary to what TB will say on a given day - an unreasonable human being. if i see i am wrong, i change my mind. that's not flipflopping, it's intelligence. ;) i also get that not everyone feels the way i do. what's important to me is *why* they feel the way they do. there's no way we'll all ever peacefully coexist, if we can't look at why people feel the way they do. i have a diehard republican friend. i am beyond irritated that while i can understand why he voted for bush and forgive what i perceive as a most egregious error, he can not concede even the tiniest chance that *i* might have reasonable and intelligent reasons for voting for kerry. at all. which is frankly making me rethink the friendship, and this is someone i've known 20 years. all i want is the same effort i have made. it's when i feel i'm not getting it that the anger spills out. and the web is a good cup for it. i actually showed remarkable restraint many a day or didn't write at all, which will tell you the level of frustration i feel. my only regret is that it made you (and presumably others) feel they could not approach me for dialogue. for that, i am truly sorry. kd
from katiedoyle :
lord, and please don't go anywhere NEAR my other weblog. that thing is pumped full of vitriol. as the election neared, my bile really got goin'. i tried not to go there, because i realize it's not the way to make one's point, but i really felt trampled on, and it shows. save yourself and do NOT go there. (which you are probably wise enough not to do) kd
from katiedoyle :
well now, see, that sucks, that i might have hurt you personally with any comment that i made. :( i'm really sorry. if i do that again, i wish you would tell me. i have no wish to hurt anyone, and certainly not someone like you. kd
from breathtaken1 :
Yes, my notes have taken on a life of their own. There is more going on in my notes than in my diary! But I don't mind. I think open discussion is better than repressed hostility!
from yarnsmith :
Hi...I really like your posting today. I lost a dland buddy who was rather rabid in her opinions about the elections. Even though I never said an unkind word about her candidate, the fact that mine won made her so mad, I guess she doesn't want to be my freind anymore. That is really rather upsetting that someone could take this all so seriously as to affect a freindship.
from forty-plus :
Just saw the Hiding from Housework banner, excellent! Posted my Friday Finds at http://forty-plus.diaryland.com/110504ffind.html. Thanks.
from janie12975 :
The fridge and nightstand pics were for friends of mine. We used to belong to an MSN group that folded, and we had a challenge to post those pictures there. When I went to log back on, it was POOF, just gone! So 2 of the ladies blog here at d-land, so I posted them anyway. I figured with the sour mood after the election, everyone could use a little laugh at my messy fridge and nightstand anyway!
from marlen816 :
Happy Birthday!
from forty-plus :
I like the Maternal banner! Very nice.
from hamiltonian :
Happy election day! Vote for me on my site for diaryland president!
from sapphyr :
Thank you for the note about my entry. I too am glad for your daughter's well being. Hugs to you. ~Sapphyr
from boxx9000 :
HAPPY HALLOWEEN.....BOO!
from marlen816 :
Sorry to hear about the accident. Glad your daughter is okay. I really like the pic at the end of the entry. Did you do that to a photo you took? Very cool!
from sapphyr :
OHMIGOODNESS! I am so very glad that everything turned out okay for your daughter and your family and everyone involved! My heart started pounding as I read your entry. Accidents are so frightening. Thankfully all is well. ~Sapphyr
from forty-plus :
Hello my beautiful friend! I've posted my Friday Finds at http://forty-plus.diaryland.com/102904ff.html. Happy Friday PM.
from leslieirene :
Hi there! I wanted to thank you for your kind posts. I will definately check out that diary...some-trouble. You're an angel. Love, Leslie :)
from forty-plus :
I don't know how the comment thing worked out, but I'm glad it did. Happy Saturday! *Smooch*
from inkdragon :
You may find my Friday Finds at http://inkdragon.diaryland.com/102204.html. Happy Friday!
from misfitstray :
I like your writing. You're very welcome
from shawcayour :
Ah I see - to forget about it. That's easy.
from creepatron :
Hey, I'd love to get that LA Diet info from you when you get a chance. my e-mail is [email protected] You rock!
from shawcayour :
Too bad the positive side is all personal.
from pashiesplace :
The webcam you link to in Scranton is just 30 minutes from me. There's a webcam for Lake Placid, NY that shows the Olympic Village etc. I'm with you on the comfy leg warners. I used to wear mine while dancing to "Maniac".
from shawcayour :
Here's another link: http://www.fahrenhype911.com/ Trust me, I'm no lefty fanatical. The things they talk about in the suburban film is actually what they are teaching in Urban Development across the world. Suburbs are the reason that North America is suffering from an overpopulation problem, because we live bigger, and it's destroying the enviroment. Recently on the local news here (where urban sprawl has made Calgary one of the largest cities in North America) the University of Calgary had found that Suburban life is no easy walk in the park and could be detrimental to mental health.
from hamiltonian :
all candidates shoould be heard.. what we have is a farce
from hamiltonian :
Thanks to you too.. I do however reccomend listeing to the top ten list link I have in there near the top... What was hard other than reading a zillion articles to write that entry was acquiring the right quotes for that entry. Whew...
from hamiltonian :
Cool pic.
from eowynne :
Thanks for the note!! :) I completely agree. Just because Michael Moore claims it is a documentary doesn't mean it is. And if people would cross-reference the things he said, they'd find he was a big fat liar! ;p And I hate it when people look down their nose at my mum just because she was in the military - all because of Michael Moore's stupid "non-fiction" movie!!! I'm just angry about this... Thanks again for the note and come again anytime! :)
from argos67 :
thank you so kindly
from augustdreams :
Thank you so much for your sweet comment. I promise that I'll always be supercareful with Aph. Anytime we're on a road with much traffic I carry her. :)
from suggest :
Hi! You've been suggested as a great diary :)
from marlen816 :
Call right now and get those books back! I'll be praying for ya!
from katiedoyle :
i have made an aggregious error, which has since been rectified. you are now listed in today's entry as an alternative (and happier read). kd
from pashiesplace :
Ahhhh books. That's my reaction to any book store or library. Those are 2 of my favorite places on the planet. John & I are both insane readers & the kids are following. I love watching them curled up beneath their blankies on the living room floor surrounded by a zillion books.
from h2ophobic :
Thanks for the note. I'm fine, just stuck in the "it sucks to be a woman in her 40's" mode! As usual, your entries cheer me up, make me laugh, make me reminince, or all of the above!
from katiedoyle :
i think i was harder on csi than i meant to be. that is, i LIKE the original. i most adamantly did NOT like ny, for pretty much all the same reasons you mentioned, plus that cast didn't gel with me. i have a few problems with the miami show. the cast does not mesh like the original cast, i don't like the effects the folks at bruckheimer are so enamored of (that i've noticed they use more lavishly when they're short on story), and i really, really don't like howdy doody. i also find the writing weaker on miami and weaker still on new york. but i really like the original one a lot. i'm glad george eads and jorja fox are not fired. kd
from boxx9000 :
Thanks for your note, you are so nice. I googled the 23 Psalm. Since I don't believe in god it doesn't really work for me. Bach? Well, maybe some JS Bach for sure! What seems to work best for me is doing my art. It calms me down and I can sort thru my thoughts. It's tough not having any family to turn to. I am lucky to have so many caring friends. A kind word goes so far and helps so much. THANKS. (((hugs)))
from marlen816 :
I want to spend Fridays at your house!!!
from mizlizzy :
RE: budgets and finances - yes, I agree, it is so hard to try to make headway with debt when life gets in the way. One of the reasons my budget works for me now is because I have learned to be flexible and pad the budget a bit for those times when unexpected expenses come up. I also look back on what things seem to come up quite a bit (car problems, kids expenses, home repairs, etc.) and I try to factor them in when I am doing my budget planning. Admitting to myself that these things DO happen and that I need to be ready for them helped me make a budget that worked for me. It has still taken years to get to the point we are at and we still have a couple years to go b/c I won't be working after November, but my goal is more to not accumulate any more debt until I go back to work. Pray that it works out! LOL. Hope all is well in suburbia!!
from sapphyr :
Oh you are so very welcome! I love your diary it really makes me smile and inspires me to be a better writer.
from sapphyr :
WOW! You have a great ability to take a scary situation and make it okay! I probably would have freaked out and called a HAZMAT unit or something. You really are one amasing parent!
from hamiltonian :
I liked tick tock entry *smiles*
from sapphyr :
Your children sound wonderful, much like yourself! You all are equally lucky to have each other! ~S.
from creepatron :
Thank you for all your lovely notes, comments, etc. I'm sorry I haven't gotten around to responding yet (lazy). Yeah, I got sick of the layout he had given me, and I've been through so much drama looking for a new one. The black really makes my words stand out--though I've somewhat adopted a new style since I've been here (very minimalist--I don't know how long this will last). But it also makes everything sound a lot more sad than it intends to be. Oh well. Happy fall!
from h2ophobic :
I just have to say this...I love you! And by the way...why didn't you tell us how beautiful you are? I saw your pic in the journal.com stuff. Gorgeous!
from hamiltonian :
You sound so BUSY!
from moonshine76 :
Aww. I'd been meaning to add you for a long time. =) And since we're sharing, I'm glad on yours too.
from wordsofmine :
I have had Pink Ladies and they are delicious.
from swcprincess :
Do you know, I think you are my favourite note-leaver ever! It's good to know that my father's antics with a spanner serve more purpose than to alarm the pants off me. Thank you so much.
from hamiltonian :
I should have written an entry about several abuses of the Homeland Security Department and John Ashcroft's Justice Department but I was too lazy and have just been too depressed to do that. I need to get it together...
from hamiltonian :
You have a good point on the spam. I did however reserach this on and found quite a bit on it. I even emailed people about it and got back news. But I am taking the link down...
from futureceo :
Hi. I clicked on your "Perspective is Everything" banner because I really liked it. Great job with it and I'll be back to check out more of your diary later. :)
from klutzygirl :
Thanks for the note. Ya well be glad your not down here on vacation this week. Everyone here is going ape shit on impending doom of Hurricane Frances. Take Care.
from shi-ou-sama :
your site has brought me the wonder of journal con, thank you kindly
from yvette18 :
hey there thank you for the titles of those two books. They sound really good. I will have to read those soon once I get done reading my current book. I wish list is a very good idea. *smile*
from wordsofmine :
I do my yoga which is turning head from left to right; front to back; shoulder to shoulder. Then, I lie on my massage table and using the weight of my head I do lifts by lying on my stomach, back and both sides. This really gives the muscles a stretch. Since doing these regularly this week my neck is better. I still have one area that speaks up periodically but the muscles are better. I, too, have had three rear-end accidents which have allowed arthritis into this area.
from hamiltonian :
i miss the beach...
from hamiltonian :
Things dont work out as you plan, but can although in a different way...
from wordsofmine :
Yes, I do. I figured I'd best use some of my Gold benefits since I pay for them.
from komachi :
Hi, there. Thanks for stopping by. My daughter and I didn't go to a movie theater or a sushi restaurant, but had a great time doing things together. I haven't been good at keeping up with others' diaries lately including yours(I am sorry) ...I think I am going to do just that now. :) Have a great weekend! ~K.
from katiedoyle :
We very definitely differ in our trust of this administration. I personally believe no one has tried anything, which is why nothing has happened. There's nothing this government - or any other - could do to prevent busses and trains from blowing up, were terrorists so minded, so I'm sorry, but I believe sheer grace of God and a lack of martyrs on US soil is all that's kept us safe. I do not see anything the Bush administration has done that actually really ups our safety quotient, and plenty it is NOT doing that could help, as well as 1 or 2 solid things the directly endangers American lives. Also, I don't know if you are aware of this yet or not, but it turns out that 25 year old Pakistani computer geek terrorist the administration used as justification for the increased level of alert was actually a mole working with the US and Pakistan govts. to spy on Al Qaeda...only in leaking his name to the press, which this Sunday Condi Rice admitted the administration did, they totally wrecked all the work the guy had done and alerted Al Qaeda to the fact that they had been compromised by him. Brilliant move, that. And not actually the work of *any* government I want keeping me "safe", if for no other reason than the monumental stupidity involved. I find it hard to believe people are now blaming "the press" for all the hype surrounding increased terrorist warnings, but I realize that many people believe that, so I will not fight that battle, other than to say I don't think it matters one whit what the press says about terror alerts. We've all gotten used to them, anyway. I don't even raise an eyebrow at them anymore, they come so often. Except to turn a jaded eye, that is. Anyway; I'll be posting more on the subject of Khan and some other stuff tomorrow...Dland just ate my carefully cited post and I don't want to rewrite it so far past my bedtime. :( kd
from chubbychic :
I admit that I too watch the Newlyweds. Just cause I like to laugh @ Jessica and how dumb she acts. Poor Nick.
from klutzygirl :
Thanks for the excellent note, about the 500th entry. I tried to keep it simple but not like 101 facts about me stuff, but this was all different. :)
from breathtaken1 :
re: the JFK's...that is hysterical. I may start calling them that :)
from breathtaken1 :
Thank you for the kind note. I enjoy your writing, and I too inhabit a kind of suburban island. Our lives are not so different I think, although I write about a little different slant on mine. Anyway, I asked my 16 year old daughter (who invents the latest words, I think) what she calls her sandals. She said, sandals, or flip-flops. I asked her if anyone called Them JFK's and she looked at me like I was crazy and said, like the president? with her nose wrinkled up, did her even WEAR sandals, giggle, giggle, giggle...must be an east coast thing...hasn't drifted west yet. But she might use it now. It would be just like her.
from queenmothy :
I couldn't agree more about the ocean! And that iced tea. Thanks for visiting and dropping me a note! Sam
from klutzygirl :
On my layout, to the right of the screen is a contacts link, click on it and then click on the GuestMAp link then add your post to the map. Excellent pics lately on Buzz.
from swcprincess :
That's such a nice gift bag that I wouldn't even CARE what was inside it! But really, the suspense is killing us.
from augustdreams :
That's so sweet! But I'm not surprised. You're a wonderful mom. I'm the same way with my mom - I love to buy her presents. We're so close, she was such a wonderful mama to me growing up and such a dear, best friend to me now. Oooh, and I can't wait to see what's in your gift bag! :)
from taintedsky :
Thank you for the note, and the compliments. I don't know how my websites compare to your diary...I love it. It's just gorgeous, to put it simply. :) I also really enjoyed your writing. Makes me think, which is always good. :) Keep up the great work!
from taintedsky :
Wow, beautiful site. Your entry got me to thinking about all of those old, yet great times I had in the past. I used to think of those times often and get tears in my eyes. It wasn't until probably six months ago that I realized I should not wish for me to be there again, but I should be thankful for the times I had. I realized that life is an experience, and that you should appreciate it as it goes. For every memory in the past, there is two great moments for the future. :)
from augustdreams :
Your entry was beautiful. I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one who misses places/people/things so deeply. You reminded me how important it is to treasure today and all the gifts it brings. Thanks for the note, too. :) I miss having comments. I've got a gold membership and you can only use those if you go Supergold. I think it's pretty cheap to upgrade though. I'll probably do that soon.
from sapphyr :
I LOVED your last entry! I know how you feel about missing people, places, things. Isn't it strange how something so simple as throwing away an old t-shirt or the closing of a favourite restaurant can be so hard to take? Have a wonderful day! ~Sapphyr
from hamiltonian :
I hope your grandfather is alright and feels better. *PUBLIUS*
from candoor :
Dland won't let me upload, so I'm clicking on banners... hmmm, maybe that's their plan all along...
from iamblessed :
thank you! I actually read it on a website earlier this morning ... I`ll be checking out your diary! Love in Christ, Courtney
from hamiltonian :
Your journal is beautiful.

Thanks for your note, it's always nice to hear from you. I called unemployment but they are closed until Monday. I will try again. I think I needed a BIG nap. I have the feeling things are going to get hectic again REAL soon.

I have a new favorite! :D Thank you for your sweet note. A friend lent me the Laurie Notaro books - all of them are excellent. I love your writing, and your layout makes me think of summer afternoons.
from iwantoomuch :
You never fail to brighten my day. *big hugs*
from poolagirl :
Yeah, the Catholics have their Knights of Columbus. I think they are almost like Masons, only pope-friendly. So finish your book and we can go on tour together. Wouldn't that be fun?
from sapphyr :
MY GOODNESS! YOU ARE GREAT! What an adventure! I love roller coasters but I'd pass that one! ~S.

Enjoy the fireworks! A Paypoint machine is one of these things: http://www.paypoint.com ... It's a kind of service in neighbourhood shops for people to make payments more conveniently, like utility bills and council taxes. But what is cosmic bowling? It sounds about six billion times more fun than average bowling...

thanks for the link. i wish i'd gotten a picture of an actual tornado, and not just a shaky video...but that's an excuse to go again :)
from crazeemomma :
Thank you for your note. Out of all the people that have clicked on my banner you are the ONLY one nice enough to leave me a note. :) I like your name.. Sunflowers are my favorite type of flower. :)
from wifemotherme :
I can not thank you enough for that story!!! I really needed to read that more than you ever will know! Yep, karma baby!
from boxx9000 :
I'm loving all your quizzes and I like how you have them all organized onto their very own QUIZ pages. (envy)
from swcprincess :
A dad doing chores is infinitely worse (and frankly, infinitely more dangerous) than a dad who ISN'T doing chores. As the Motherships of ancient folklore have spoken for many centuries, "If thou wanteth something done properly, thou might as well do ye flipping thing thineself, because thine father is a moron."
from komachi :
Thank you for your note. I had a good time on the Mother's day. I hope you did also. :-)
from boxx9000 :
Hey, thanks so much for the BUG offer. They don't HAVE to be alive. Dead would be just fine. Are there any interstate laws that you are aware of re: shipping large quanities of dead bugs for EDUCATIONAL puposes?
from wordsofmine :
You're such a trooper. I had a chuckle though as you described the possibility of sitting outside in the evening with your laptop and a cicada landing on you. I would react in the very same way.
from atonement :
Hey! I randomly decided to update after... almost a year... and wanted to just drop a note to say hi and that I hope all is well. Yeah the cicadas here in Baltimore are crazy... but have a good summer, regardless!

Congrats on the 300th entry! I love reading your tales of suburbia. Hope you have a wonderful day!
from trishtastic :
Thanks for being the first to the new (again) digs!
from foursquare :
Hey thanks four comment. Since I've got a general idea about where you live, I thought the cicadas would be here too. But nothing, and when I looked it up online apparently they don't make it down this way. But my husband seems to remember them from years ago and said the whole thing was, well... buggy. Hope they'll be phasing out of your way soon. So what kind of stuff have you been planting or working on garden-wise at your place?

Hi! Loved your entry. Kids do have a way of making us really see the world. I found a great template. It is simple and elegant. I had the worst time trying to figure out how to cut and paste it into the right places but I think it looks good. I hope you enjoy it! Thanks for the support and advice! ~Sapphyr
from sapphyr :
Thanks for the advice. I had been exploring free templates but gave up. I will start again per your advice! Thank you!

Not many have said it to me and it's kindda funky but I've gotten used to it. Only the people important to me are the ones who said it and I couldn't be more satisfied with that. Anyhoo, YO! and all that good salutation stuff. How art thou?? l8s

Like you, I have an obsession with collecting those animated "dollz." Thank you so much for posting thedollpalace.com, so I can further indulge my addiction. By the way...your layout is just beautiful. Did you design it yourself? -cat
from leslieirene :
Oh my! I just saw your "A Little Peace and Quiet" banner, and I had to come running to tell you how beautiful it is! I mean, it really is gorgeous! Your banners get better and better and better and better! Awesome! Love, Leslie Irene
from ivegotwings :
Thank you :) I hate it when that happens! One time I wrote an email that was 3 pages long and then a accidentally pressed back and when I went forward POOF it was gone. :( I love your layout also :D I'm glad that my note meant so much to you because I really enjoy writing them! hehe. Read you later, Kay

thank you dear, i don't usually think of myself as poetic, but it is nice to hear :) you are a very kind person, and a lovely writer too. take care <love><me>
from some-trouble :
Thanks for the note - those questions are ones that I've asked myself in the past. Basically the NHS sucks. I've been trying for about 2 years now to be referred outside my hometown see an M.E specialist as there isn't one locally, but the local Health Care Trust refuses point blank to pay for me to travel outside the borough, and as I don't work I can't afford to pay to get private treatment. The same situation applies now for therapy. I agree, it is disgusting the way that people are made to 'hang in there' so I will be speaking to my GP and writing to the Psychological Services secretary too. Sadly this sort of thing happens all the time in the UK. [Sorry for the long note again]
from ivegotwings :
I'm so intrigued by your diary! I can't stop reading it. I check back more and more. And I love to look at your pictures. You're a lovely photographer. You should read Thwonk by Joan Bauer. It's about photography AND love + it's a Joan Bauer book so IT'S PERFECT! :) -kay

I love this entry. How awesome to have a child believe you are a beautiful, mystical creature! I'd have told the child "yes, I am a mermaid, but don't tell anyone, it's our secret!"

Oh la la, a double post :) I just read your note to me, and I want to thank you for the good advice... yes, you're right, sometimes things don't happen for a reason. I think I must be sufferin' from a bad case of extreme spring fever this year or something!! :) Thanks again... eeekkk. I just hope he doesn't reply. Then again, there is nothing like a good drama either. Hehehe. Insane, I know I know!
from algonquin :
Enjoy your time at the beach! I hope you have a great time there with your family :) Spring Break is always a busy time... but it is also a fun time. I'm just counting the week's till summer holiday... but ssshhhh, don't tell anyone I said that! :)

Happy Easter back atcha...the Lent is OVER!
from some-trouble :
Happy Easter to you too - I hope your day was a good one :o) The pain medication thing is confusing a lot of people - me included :o) I've been taking pain meds for about 3 years - pretty much since I first got sick, but gradually over a period of time my body became used to the original tablets so they no longer worked. My GP upped the dosage and all was fine. Then my body got used to them too, and that's how the cycle carried on. I was either given a different or stronger drug to try, or the doseage was increased. Now it seems the doctors are under the impression that I'm becoming used to the pain meds I'm on again at the moment, but apparently there isn't anything stronger that they can give me in tablet format. I guess it's not an addiction as such, I've just built up a tolerance over time. I do get what the docs class as 'withdrawl symptoms' though if I don't take any painkillers at all :o( I'm seeing my doctor at the hospital soon to talk about my drug regime - my GP knows I need the pain meds to help my M.E, but being on such strong tablets for so long isn't helping me [or my liver] either. I'm not sure where I go from here.... Sorry for the long note. Take Care, Jo XXX

Happy Easter.
from doc-sarvis :
Thanks for your Easter wishes (I'm more of a 'Passover' guy), and in return, I hope you have a happy Easter as well. That was a very touching piece you wrote the other day, about watching your children grow up. For the time being I've stopped doing "personal" blogging, and I'm starting a more "political" blog to hone my op-ed skills. That blog is here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/herbafied/ I hope the Easter Bunny brings you plenty of Peeps and chocolate.
from wifemotherme :
How blessed your children are to have you as a mother! Thank you so much for the email. Somehow knowing others endure, leaves me feeling like such an odd duck. But we can learn and be vigilant to never treat our own children with disrespect even if we label it "just joking"

Thanks for your lovely response and the mention on your blog. I contacted the CK.org people and may be arranging to expand the efforts to the DC and Philadelphia area. If it pans out, I would love your feedback and involvement at any (no matter how small!) capacity.
from creepatron :
Hey, I'm not sure how crafty/knitty/crochet-y you are, but I wanted to pass along www.critterknitters.org since I knew you would appreciate it. It's a website dedicated to getting people to donate/create blankets for shelter animals in NYC that they can later take to their permanent homes. I think it's a great cause--I and my knitty friends are going to get going on it. I thought if you didn't have any use you might be able to pass it along. Take it easy! =) --Kipp

thank you for the comment. i followed you to your diary from the note you left, and i must tell you that i adore your sense of humor and writing style. it is quite a fresh change from what i usually encounter and i have fallen in love with it. i have added you as a favorite and perhaps will take a button along with me. take care, <love><me>
from etherealwind :
^.^ I just LOVE your diary. It's always interesting and fun to read. You are probably the coolest 50 year-old person in the world. Cooler than anyone that age or older, than I've ever known....

We ended getting this big fancy call rejection thing with our phone service, where the call won't go through if they won't show their ID. And most of the time it catches the telemarketers so when that I pick up the phone it goes through this automated thing, and they have to say who they are. I can push a button to tell them to buzz off and take me off their list, it's nice. I think making them show their name on the caller ID alone makes most of them buzz off, because the number of telemarketer phone calls went down quite a lot after getting that service - and in reference to your note. "ugh"! That's not encouraging! :) Alas though, I remember quite well how me and my siblings would trash the house as kids & teenagers. *sigh*...

Yeah, that gold membership has certainly released more of my alter ego. I call her Jane. She LOVES weird pictures!

Thanks for checking in! I have just been so busy lately and literally living by myself since my husband went off to the middle east, and I have drowned myself in projects. I know I need to update and hope to really soon. Kisses!

I also love Holidays on Ice- especially the story about the rarely dressed illegitimate child living with the family- Season's Greetings- I think is the title.
from kris-tee :
For fifty you are a cool ass mom. I thought you were like 35. You remind me of my mom, she is so awesome. Keep that good relationship with your kids, it sounds like you have a good one. People think my brother and I tell our mom and dad too much. They are my parents, but they are my bestfriends. I love doing stuff with them. My husband tells me I am the happiest when I am spending time with my parents. I can tell your kids are going to be the same way.
from doc-sarvis :
My supergold membership is being efforted. Speaking of the 70's, I'll bet you can't wait to see the remake of "Walking Tall" huh!
from flyinby :
I don't think it's my connection, I think it is my computer. It doesn't handle lots of scripts well. I have a high speed cable modem connection and a newer Dell PC, but pages with a few scripts or more make it crash. *shrug* I wish I could fix it, but it's a pain. The computer at my MIL's house is okay with it, though. :)
from irish-jack :
oh my oh my. i'm sooo not worthy. i'd like to thank YOU, and the members of the academy.
from flyinby :
I'm sorry I had to remove you from my faves list, for some reason whenever I visit your diary my whole computer freezes! It's only when I visit your site, though. So I will have to pop in on Sundays (when I'm at my in-laws house with their better computer) to read and catch up. :) I just wanted to make sure you knew why so you'd not be offended. I still read, just can't as often. *hugs* <3
from doc-sarvis :
I'm flattered and honored! Thank you!
from boxx9000 :
I enjoyed your popcorn/microwave story. I have also burned popcorn and I can't say it was my teeneagers. OUCH regarding your mixer story. I remember when I was a kid, my sister was giving me a ride on the back of her bicycle and i wonderd what would happen if I stuck my feet in the spokes?????YOW! won't be doing that again!
from doc-sarvis :
That punk song in my little comic strip? I didn't write that. The lyrics in the first panel are "100%" by Sonic Youth, the second is "Institutionalized" by Suicidal Tendencies, the third is "I don't care about you" by Fear, and then "TV Party" by Black Flag. Yes. I'm having an early mid-life crisis.
from kris-tee :
How do ya think I feel?? I was the coffee queen till I got pregnant! I LIVED for starbucks! Now, I have not had one single star bucks drink in FOUR months! (dont tell my husband or my mom but sometimes, I put a little coffee in my hot chocolate!) I feel for ya! I have five more months! I think as soon as the baby is born, I'm gonna stop at statbucks on the way home from the hospital and get a grande Iced Caffe Mocha with 2% milk and whipped creme. I got so damn good at saying that too, now I'm gonna have to start alll over.
from komachi :
Thank you. I am glad you like those pictures :-)
from doc-sarvis :
I'm glad you enjoyed my diary. I've actually been a fan of yours for quite some time.
from jamsjunction :
My mom & oldest sister went to see it opening night. They both said they were glad they got the opportunity to see, but wouldnt see it again. It was very gory, and graphic. Honestly, If Mel Gibson weren't the one who made this film, I would be in line to see it. But for other reasons, aside from this movie, I cant pay to see something he will benifit from. I dont know if the movie truely is anti-Semitic..Thanks for the note. You can borrow my soap box anytime.

hey sunnflower. i really enjoy reading your diary. it's odd seeing life from a mother's point of view. i, the 14-year-old-daughter, never really thought of the way that what i do effects my mom's life. well, im not dense, i knew THAT but i meant...i just thought of my mom as kinda 911 if something goes wrong she'll fix it. and i'm usually the, "You can't yell at me for what i did because whatever my purpose was i got it from your genes" kinda person. Now I'm thinking a little differently. This is getting long so long story short- your journal inspired me :)

BuzzNet is seriously one of the best things that has happened to me! I'm so addicted to it; I am all about MoBlogging and joined your ring this morning. I just added them to my phone's address book so I no longer have to e-mail them to myself and then send them in. I wish my camera quality was better, but that's the price you pay. I can't believe some of the amazing photographers that are on that site! I'm so jealous.

Each parent recieved from me a list of "alternative care" sitters that I personally know and trust, and also 3 sources for "Sick Child Care". I provided each parent with this list just a few weeks ago, and have done so two seperate times in teh past year. I understand, believe me, how hard it is. I used to work outside of the home, and used to have the same issues. It's not a matter of being unable to find it, it's a matter of being unwilling, in their case(s). There are no excuses, and yet . . . Anyways, appreciate the suggestion. I have tried that, though. Short of smacking them upside the head I don't know what more I can do.
from autumn-dove :
Just dropped in for a few. Read your comments on the water. I just couldn't take the blandness of it when I tried. I about 1/3 or 1/2 c. orange juice in a 2 cup mug. I fill the rest with water. I heat this & it not only tastes good, but seems to curb my appetite. I get my good liquid quota along with vit C with the bonus of it curbing my munchies. Some who tried it agree while others don't like it. Just thought I'd pass it your way. Enjoy your diary - thanks for sharing.

Yeah, authoring some articles would be a great idea; I'll have to look into it. Being outside of DC is like the land of internship opportunities--great things to put on resumes of those who already have resumes established, if you catch my drift. But when the summer rolls around and my parents expect me back in PA, well, these are only so many of those opportunities available in Philadelphia of all hum drum places.
from chaosbean :
I know what you are saying about the pre fame expectation and then the Reality. And on one hand who is so cock sure they are going to be famous that they prepare for things like the media, the stress and such. but on the other hand, how am I supposed to believe that you've spent your whole life working towards this one goal and you didn't think about the consequences? At least she was young when she got into it. I mean Princess Diana, yeah I feel bad for her photograhers always on her, but honestly, What in this green and blue swirled spinning thing did she think was going to happen. I don't know. I would be more then willing to swap my bills and shit for pesky photographers. Cause really, she has little to no idea what her life could be like.

Running in Heels was pretty good. I too enjoy reading some Brit Lit bcuz their everyday lives are kinda strange to me. Another brit. book that I really really enjoyed is called "Dog Handling" by Clare Naylor. I like this one better than Running in Heels bcuz the main character has a little more self-confidence than the one in Running in Heels. I can't remember their names right now! I enjoyed reading through your bookshelf. I'm always looking for a few good books to read when I have nothing to do at work. I'm about to start reading "Good in Bed" & "Flip Flopped". Thank God for the Isle's Bookshelf! ;) Have a good day.

No allegy in the family...no ordor from dogs...not even those bad dog breath... They give me one reason or another why they can't be in the house..(they can sleep in the laundry room at night, and that's it) I believe they just don't want them inside. :( The weather is getting very cold so I am trying to keep them in the lil' laundry room as much as possible and I sit there with them lots. :) It is funny though because my mother-in-law says she loves all animals and that she knows what dogs are thinking. O, thank you for linking to me today! Your journal is lovely and JAM PACKED WITH STUFF! Love it! Especially the Alice in Wonderland illustrations... the old Tenniel ones! Aloha sunnflower, Bravo, I wish to let you know that we are over joyed, with your righteous victory over the unscrupelous water company. And as soon as the period set aside to honor the memory of your great Gold Tone Warrior. We are going to celebrate your victory by washing all the neighbor's cars, and our clothes and then squirting with the garden hose at their off-spring as they exit the school bus. Viva La SUNNFLOWER! Hey, this is Frazzled Imp. Due to certain people in my personal life not having the common sense that god gave a banana feeling the urge to delve into my journal, Ive decided to pack my bags, and move to a new location. Since this move isnt intended to thwart my regular readers who have nothing to do with me on an intimate basis, Im just making the rounds and letting you know where Ive gone. Youre still welcome to come read, if youd like. You can find me at: http://dizzy-dame.diaryland.com Take care!

Aloha From the Islands (okay not really, but, anyways...), I can relate to the water works story I was away for almost a month, my water bill was only $11.47 cents, I was going to pay it the next day with all my other utilities. I overslept because I had had a long journey and got in around 5:30 a.m. When I finally woke up it 7 p.m. and my water had been shut off. It was a friday. Not a good weekend it cost me $25.00's on monday morning. I would have paid the 50.00 weekend connect fee. But, they didn't respond to my repeated calls. To be honest with you I felt like cutting off their... Never mind=D. I loved your ending statement. Ciao Bambina, Guderian A.K.A. Marty Christmoose

Aloha sunnflower, I am sorry about the guest book, I thought I had turned it on but, apparently not, I'll try again. And, you are welcome about the half mast(or half-full Frig) we are observing in honor of one who rendered you such faithful and enduring service. In fact I was just ensuring that we were abiding by that, by empting several sandwiches and snacks into mine and my dog's gullets =D., Thank You for the compliment and yes you are correct they are lyrics or partial lyrics to some songs I've personally written. And the lovely changes in my template I owe to you and that wonderful Nicola. I am very greatful to you for your advice and guidance. And I love your diary so much (that is initally why I asked you for advice). God's Blessings upon you and Yours, Sincerely, Guderian A.K.A. Marty

im not exactly sure how to make puppy chow off the top of my head, the recipe is on a chex mix box, but you get regular chex mix and melt chocolate chips and peanut butter together and pour it over the chex cereal then put it in a bag and shake it up w/ powdered sugar...i think anyways... lol hope that helps ya!

Thank you for the thoughtful note! Yes, times are hard, but I try not to compare myself to TheEx. I am truly happy for him in his new position - I know he'll do well, and he'll be working with people he already knows and likes. Score for him. Now if *I* could just be working at a job that a.) I liked, and 2.) paid me the good money, I'd be all set! :) I talked to my mother last night, and she said she didn't have any money to lend me, and that she doesn't want to see me move home. She said she's so proud of me and what I've done that she doesn't want to see me take a step back (as in, moving back home) after all I've accomplished. Which, I can understand and respect. So, we shall see. As always, I thank you for the kind words. :)

Thanks so much for you note of concern. I've been around but so completely harried I just stayed away from diaryland (other than to read). And then I went on a trip with the kids. So, now that I'm back, I hope to get back to regular updating. Here and on fotolog...I've missed that too. I hope all is well with you and I'll catch up over the next several days.

I just wanted to let you know that I still read your diary, and that it helps me to understand things from a parents perspective a bit more. Sometimes I guess its hard for us to think of our parents as actual people (if that makes sense) but your entries remind me that my parents have their own lives and situations outside of my sister and I. I guess we just sometimes lose sight of that...

5 Question Madness! Post these questions and your answers on your diary and let me know in my guestbook. Please link back to me. Also ask those who read your diary if they would like five questions of your making. My favorite Sunnflowerhere are your questions! 1. You whispered the National Enquirer makes it into your basket on occasion. Please share the headline and summary paragraph sharing a fun and naughty experience youve had (exaggerations welcome)! 2. You love the ballet. Do you remember your first experience? How did you feel as you walked out of the theatre? 3. Youve mentioned you have Saints statues and you try to recite Psalm 23 daily. Do you consider yourself spiritual? What does spirituality mean to you? 4. Youve stated you are a cancer survivor. Could you tell me what this experience meant to you? 5. Why do you believe in Guardian Angels? Do you believe everybody has one?

Umm I don't know if you got the e-mail that Diaryland was supposed to send, but you can still read my diary, the password is "sarah" (my middle name). It took a while to figure out that's why LA irritates me so much. Then I realized that's pretty much the problem with most of this country. We have compartmentalized respect right out of our culture as a society here, and I think it's really sad. I like your idea about a book layout. If I decide to customize, I think I'm gonna run with that; thanks! kd

I totally agree with you. I like how dynamic this is, and way more fun than a personal website or whatever. I find this motivates me more and more to do actual writing of fiction, which is also very good, since I've had writer's block for a million years. ::sigh:: kd
from ineedawife :

Ya know, so many people have great banners, I think it would be nice if they were showcased in some way, instead of flashing for a few days and then going away. That SquirrelX person sure is prolific... I think the two I snagged were the one about the resolutions (2003, 2002, 2001) and Mom knows best. Why do you have a page with all yours? So that people like me can snag 'em? :) kd
from anifish :
What great luck! I haven't been in a wreck yet, and I don't want to be in one, but if and when I get in my first wreck, I hope it happens just like that... And it wouldn't surprise me at all if it were a college recruitment method. They get odder and odder and more and more aggressive it seems...
from espagnola71 :
Hi, thanks for your note. I'm sorry, but I'm completely useless with html, so I wouldn't know where to start to add that automatic translator that you suggested. Besides, I'm a translator myself, so I don't trust those machines!! ;-)
from mayapple :
Thanks for the nice note! Your diary is very cute--love the yellow.
from leslieirene :

Once again....thanks for the vote of confidence. I'm glad you like what I'm trying to do with my journal. Bobby Sue Dicks.

Hello hi.. I just wanted to let you know that I will no longer be updating smushy. I have started a new diary .... the OF is actually zero-F not o-f :)
from ineedawife :
What a fabulous, beautiful spot to visit! I think I discovered you through a banner--bookmarked for later, so of course, I have forgotten anything that happened more than 5 mins ago. Great to read of another suburbanite out there.
from hey4eyes :
Your diary is a virtual almanac...super. Thanks for the vote of confidence as well. Much appreciated.Bobbie Sue Dicks.

He's already done the car. More than once. I'm so used to it now I just sigh and say, "How much?"
from wishaword :
Verne Troyer eh? How adorable. I think it's funny how we put celebrities on pedastools (spelling). It's like a natural instinct. I thought what you said about the Osbourne house was interesting... Seeing the gardner can make you that much closer to something special, when the special person is just like you or me, with a better job ;)
from amigamaster :
Thanks for the note and the template url. Much appreciated. You're so kind. I still haven't done a new template, however I did add a silly kitty pic. lol

Yeah, so like I said, I'm an idiot. I did, however, figure out what I was doing wrong. Thanks for you help!
from nacole :
I've tried everything. I've even copied the formula from your source and substituted it into mine. I ended up having to redo my template completely in order to get it back running.... I'm an idiot at this stuff.

Yeah, that's exactly how I'm writing it, and it won't show up.... I got aggrivated, I may try again later... if you think of anything else, let me know!

(this is from twistingpath) hey sunnflower, thank you for the note and advice, but the thing is, my friend, amy, she is going to 2 psychiatrists already (she is 13 by the way) between her, my best friend lani, and myself it is a revolving battle to keep one another alive. amy is the only one seeking professional help. lani and i are doing much better with one anothers help, and when amy needs her friends, lani and i are there to boost. messed up world no? amy is doing better now. we each have a long history, in only so few years. we can only hope for the better. thanks for reading my diary.
